It also sets out the policies that will be applied to ensure that individual development proposals contribute positively towards this plan. 2.2 In order to ensure that this plan is robust and responds positively to local issues, an evidence based approach has been taken. This evidence includes studies and assessments undertaken in order to understand both the needs for development and growth, and its likely impacts, and the physical constraints on development and growth in Castle Point. 2.3 The evidence for this local plan also consists of consultation responses received during the Issues Consultation undertaken in 2012. This has helped the Council prioritise issues associated with infrastructure, and to understand the value residents place on features of the local environment. 2.4 It is clear from the evidence that there is need for sustainable development and growth in Castle Point, due to its location in the Thames Gateway and close to London. However, the evidence also reveals constraints on growth arising from the natural environment including nature conservation, landscape protection and flood risk. 2.5 Castle Point has a substantial swathe of Green Belt that has worked positively to maintain the separation between towns within and beyond the borough. The retention of strategic corridors of Green Belt is also a constraint on development. 2.6 Having regard to this evidence, the Council has taken a capacity led approach to preparing this plan which seeks to meet the development needs of Castle Point in a way which respects, and is constrained by, the natural environment and the strategic corridors of Green Belt. 2.7 Having regard to the issues arising through consultation, the Council also aims to secure improvements to road infrastructure and community facilities alongside the delivery of development within this plan.

It is R described as: “a wedge of green on the edge of the District, forming a significant barrier of countryside between Rayleigh and Basildon. The community, although small in number, is great in achievement and spirit, with amenities such as the Village Hall used to the full.” (RDC Guide, p 19). This 1128-hectare (2788 acre) wedge of green belt land is naturally predominately agricultural and horticultural. The soil is generally low quality, grade 2a & 2b with much grade 3. The area includes part of a Coastal Protection Belt and a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

    THUNDERSLEY St. PETER and St. MICHAEL & ALL ANGELS PARISH PROFILE 2016 F Our priest retired in May this year and we have a vacant post for a Priest-in-Charge (Team Vicar Designate). The Diocesan and Deanery vision is for a new Team Ministry with our 2 churches combining with the 2 Hadleigh Parish churches, St. James-the-Less (SS7 2PA) and St. Barnabas (SS7 2EJ). The Hadleigh Parish also has a vacancy and the to-be appointed Team Rector Designate at St. James will be the head of the Team Ministry, assisted by a focal minister at St. Barnabas. We are committed to the Diocese’s and Deanery’s vision (pages 6, 7 & 8) and to realise that vision here we need a Priest who will inspire us to grow this parish and who can operate within a Team Ministry.     BENFLEET IN THE EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY Chapter 1: Early Days Before the first world war, a company known as the Land Company, manager Frederick Rarnuz, bought up a considerable amount of grazing land in Benfleet and New Thundersley and divided it up into building plots marking it out with wooden pegs defining roads etc .. Prospective buyers were given a free first class rail ticket to Westcliff a champagne lunch and a ride in a Daimler to view the new estate and many plots were sold. War broke out and unoccupied land was commandeered for agricultural purposes and many of the marking pegs ploughed under with the result that when then new owners returned from the war they had to try and remake their survey before building. This coupled with the fact that some had been killed in combat and therefore could not claim their plots led to much confusion which has lasted up to the present day and has shown up when road charges were attempted to be levied. All sorts of wooden and asbestos huts and houses were put up, especially between Cemetery corner and Tarpots Farm. This caused a transport problem for people wishing to go to work by train hence the need for public transport (see my next chapter i. e. the buses.). Some Notes About Old Benfleet When I first remember it, in 1915 the only way to reach either Cemetery corner or Tarpots was either on foot or by hiring a horse cab. In 1921 a blue charabanc ran from the "Anchor" to Southend via Vicarage Hill described as a tour through Little Switzerland.

The Boundary Committee for England is a committee of The Electoral Commission, an independent body set up by Parliament under the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000. The functions of the Local Government Commission for England were transferred to The Electoral Commission and its Boundary Committee on 1 April 2002 by the Local Government Commission for England (Transfer of Functions) Order 2001 (SI 2001 No. 3692). The Order also transferred to The Electoral Commission the functions of the Secretary of State in relation to taking decisions on recommendations for changes to local authority electoral arrangements and implementing them.
