Against the United States. the Arrangements Were Made in Conference Between G-1 and the Direcotr of the R.R.& C
LUXEMBOURG AGREEMENT On April 21, 1921, there was completed a contract whereby the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, for a specified sum, agreed to settle all claims of whatever nature that remained outstanding against the United States. The arrangements were made in conference between G-1 and the Direcotr of the R.R.& C. Service on one side and representatives of Luxembourg on the other. The contract was signed for the United States by the Judge Advocate of the A.F.G., who acted for the Commanding General, and by the Minister- President of the Grand Duchy for Luxembourg.1 ' The contract was, in part, as follows: Luxembourg hereby substitutes itself for the United States in reference to and guarantees the latter against all claims, demands, obligations, rights, actions, suits and controversies, of every kind and nature, arising in Luxembourg during the period stipulated in this agreement, which it, the said Duchy of Luxembourg, or any inhabitant, or any person subject to the sovereignty of Luxembourg, or any organization, association or corporation, commune or department of Luxembourg, may now have or which may hereafter accrue for damage to, use or loss of property, or injuries to or death of persons, caused by or resulting from acts, or omissions, of members of the said American Military Forces, or of any one connected therewith, during the period embraced in this agreement, whether the same are listed below or not, but with particular reference to the following: (a) All claims which the United States is authorized to pay to the inhabitants of Luxembourg, known more explicitly as "private claims".- (b) All claims for the use and occupation of railroads, cars, tracks, and for transportation of troops, supplies, and material. -
Deep Low-Frequency Earthquakes Reveal Ongoing Magmatic Recharge

Received 2018 November 24; in original form 2018 August 20 SUMMARY The occurrence of deep low-frequency (DLF) microearthquakes beneath volcanoes is com- monly attributed to mass transport in the volcanic plumbing system and used to infer feeding channels from and into magma reservoirs. The key question is how magmas migrate from depth to the shallow crust and whether magma reservoirs are currently being recharged. For the first time since the improvement of the local seismic networks in the East Eifel region (Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany), we detect and locate recurrent DLF earthquakes in the lower crust and upper mantle beneath the Laacher See Volcano (LSV), using a joint data set of permanent sensors and a temporary deployment. -

48 Hours in DJH Stahleck Hostel
nt adve urep ily ro m je fa c . t . w o r w g w The Family Adventure Project’s guide to Castle Hostels of Germany 48 hours around Burg Stahleck and the Middle Rhine Castle Hostels of Germany How would you like to spend a night in a castle? Or take a road trip combining castles, palaces and forts? There are more historic hilltop residences offering beds to travellers in Germany than you might imagine, thanks to the extensive network of Jugendherberge hostels. Castle Hostels Road Trip We had no idea when we set out on our road trip of German Castle Hostels how much choice we would have, how many faraway hills we would sleep on, and how magical the hostels would be – thanks in part to the number of Harry Potter conventions we ran into. Well, what better place than a castle? For the last century the German Youth Hostel Association has been refurbishing former grand or royal buildings specifically for families and groups. We set out to explore five of them to produce this series of guides which we hope will help you to do the same. We chose a range of different locations with ideally no more than three hours drive between them. We stayed for 48 hours in each and explored as much of the area as we could. In the pages that follow we describe the unique character of the hostel, profile what there is to do and give you the low down on why we think each one is worth a visit. -

Historischer Rundgang Rennerod
