The Catholic Church in the Czech Republic Dear Readers, The publication on the Ro- man Catholic Church which you are holding in your hands may strike you as history that belongs in a museum. How- ever, if you leaf through it and look around our beauti- ful country, you may discover that it belongs to the present as well. Many changes have taken place. The history of the Church in this country is also the history of this nation. And the history of the nation, of the country’s inhabitants, always has been and still is the history of the Church. The Church’s mission is to serve mankind, and we want to fulfil Jesus’s call: “I did not come to be served but to serve.” The beautiful and unique pastoral constitution of Vatican Coun- cil II, the document “Joy and Hope” begins with the words: “The joys and the hopes, the grief and the anxieties of the men of this age, especially those who are poor or in any way afflicted, these are the joys and hopes, the grief and anxieties of the followers of Christ.” This is the task that hundreds of thousands of men and women in this country strive to carry out. According to expert statistical estimates, approximately three million Roman Catholics live in our country along with almost twenty thousand of our Eastern broth- ers and sisters in the Greek Catholic Church, with whom we are in full communion. There are an additional million Christians who belong to a variety of other Churches. Ecumenical cooperation, which was strengthened by decades of persecution and bullying of the Church, is flourishing remarkably in this country.

  • Pope Condemns 'Blind Violence,' Offers Prayers After Brussels Attacks
Pope condemns ‘blind violence,’ offers prayers after Brussels attacks By Junno Arocho Esteves Catholic News Service VATICAN CITY – Assuring his prayers for the victims and families of the terrorist attack in Brussels, Pope Francis condemned the “cruel abominations” and prayed for the conversion of those who adhere to violent fundamentalism. “To all, I ask that you persevere in prayer and in asking the Lord in this Holy Week to comfort the hearts of the afflicted and to convert the hearts of those people taken in by cruel fundamentalism,” the pope said at the end of his weekly general audience in St. Peter’s Square March 23. Saying he followed the tragic news of the bombings with a “sorrowful heart,” the pope expressed his closeness to “the dear people of Belgium, to all the families of the victims and to all the wounded.” “I renew an appeal to all people of good will to unite in the unanimous condemnation of these cruel abominations that have caused only death, terror and horror,” he said. After his appeal, the pope led the people in the square in praying a “Hail Mary” for those affected by the terrorism, followed by a moment of silence for “the dead, the wounded, the families and for all the Belgian people.” Three nearly simultaneous attacks – two at the Brussels airport and one on the Brussels area of Maalbeek, near where much of the European Union is based – left at least 34 dead and more than 200 people injured.

  • Statement of Cardinal Reinhard Marx, President of the German Bishops’ Conference
25/09/2018 PRESS RELEASE 150a eng GERMAN BISHOPS‘ CONFERENCE Check against delivery! Statement of Cardinal Reinhard Marx, President of the German Bishops’ Conference, Press conference on the presentation of the Study “Sexual abuse of minors by Catholic priests, deacons and male members of orders in the domain of the German Bishops’ Conference” (MHG Study) on 25 September 2018 in Fulda The study on “Sexual abuse of minors by Catholic priests, deacons and male members of orders in the domain of the German Bishops’ Conference” makes it clear to us that the Catholic Church has by no means overcome the issue of dealing with the sexual abuse of minors. The study takes a deep look into the past. I say quite clearly: sexual abuse is a crime. Those who are guilty must be punished. For too long abuse has been denied and hushed up in the church. One simply looked away. I apologize for all failure and for all pain and suffering. I am ashamed because of the trust that has been destroyed; because of the crimes that have been committed by officials of the Church; and I feel shame, because many people have looked the other way and did not want to see what had happened and who did not care about the victims. This also applies to me. We have not listened to the victims. All this must not remain without consequences! Those affected are entitled to justice. Since 2010, we have committed ourselves in the German Bishops’ Conference Kaiserstraße 161 53113 Bonn and taken appropriate measures to make an unconditional orientation towards Postal address the victims our first priority and to prevent that more people become victims.

(2/13/17) BLOG POST: Is Prophecy Being Fulfilled…? Oath Swearing Allegiance To The Pope (Book of Truth – Maria Divine Mercy) http://maryrefugeofholylove.com ARTICLE: “BREAKING: Council of Cardinals pledges allegiance to Pope Francis” Monday, February 13, 2017 – 10:17 am EST News: LifeSiteNews Author: John-Henry Westen Source: https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/breaking-council-of-cardinals-pledge- allegiance-to-pope-francis ROME, February 13, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – In an odd note without explanation placed on the Vatican’s daily press briefing today, the Council of Cardinals, a group of 10 Cardinals which Pope Francis has delegated to work with him on reform, has pledged allegiance to the Pope. “In relation to recent events, the Council of Cardinals pledges its full support for the Pope’s work, assuring him at the same time of its adhesion and loyalty to the figure of the Pope and to his Magisterium,” said the note. The statement comes in the wake of two public expressions of dissatisfaction or concern with Pope Francis that hit the streets of Rome in the last week. The first was a poster campaign which saw dozens of large posters plastered around the city. They noted Francis’ dismantling congregations, removing priests and more, and asked in conclusion, “Where is your mercy?” The second was a satirical version of the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano painting the Pope as answering the dubia with ‘yes and no’ to each question. Cardinal Marc Ouellet, prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, last week criticized the poster campaign as a “work of the devil.” However, the Cardinal was criticized for his condemnation of the public expression of the faithful given that he has direct access to the Pope, whereas the laity do not.
