Nach einigen Besetzungswechseln erschien dann 2009 das Album „After all“. Es geht also wieder los! (heavyhardes.de) MINDWISE-KONTAKT: Mindwise c/o Stefan Kreutzfeldt Föhrenkamp 8c 31303 Burgdorf Telefon: 0176-83107787 Email: [email protected] Homepage: www.mindwise.de .

PERFORMED IDENTITIES: HEAVY METAL MUSICIANS BETWEEN 1984 AND 1991 Bradley C. Klypchak A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY May 2007 Committee: Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown, Advisor Dr. John Makay Graduate Faculty Representative Dr. Ron E. Shields Dr. Don McQuarie © 2007 Bradley C. Klypchak All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

  • Fan Q & a with JIM MARTIN, Formerly of FAITH NO MORE
For Immediate Release November 13, 2012 Fan Q & A with JIM MARTIN, Formerly of FAITH NO MORE After a silence of over a decade, Jim Martin agreed to a Q&A session with fans via a British based fan site. A set of 15 questions were selected by administrators of the fan site from over 500 submissions by fans eager to hear from Jim. What follows is a Q&A session with Jim Martin, former Faith No More guitar player, songwriter, and producer, and fans of Faith No More. Some weeks ago, the FNM “fan club guy” was asking about how to contact me, he wanted to talk to me about the fan page.. After several exchanges via email, he and I decided to do a Q&A thing for the fans. My departure from FNM in 1993 was controversial; I left while the band was still at the peak of its success. I am proud of my contributions to the success and legacy of FNM. I appreciate the time and effort it took to put these questions together. Thank you for the opportunity 1. Nefertiti Malaty Q: What do you consider the highlight of your career? A: Performing with Bo Diddly, Klaus Mein, Metallica, Gary Rossington, Pepper Keenan Sean Kinney Jerry Cantrell John Popper Jason Newstead, singing Misfits songs with Metallica live during our tour with them and GNR. 2. Eric Land Q: You are an influence to many younger guitarists today, but who were your biggest influences and what do you remember about how those people helped to craft your sound and play style? A: My influences to a greater extent were Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, and David Gilmore.

The legendary long-running yet ever-mutating ensemble M'lumbo proudly presents Celestial Mechanics The culmination of over a decade worth of live collaborations with Grammy- winning Jane Ira Bloom, winner of the 2020 Downbeat Critics Poll for soprano saxophone, this release follows hot on the heels of M'lumbo's collaboration Fairytale Aliens with Helmet leader Page Hamilton, who is also onboard the new album as special guest. This double album is a compendium of Space Age Jazz, Electronica, Rock and exotica, two and a half hours of extraordinary musicianship and a pinnacle of collective empathy and reaction. This will mark the band's second release with the marvelous Grammy- winning Ropeadope records, whose fantastic catalog and sense of community is unrivaled among contemporary record labels. M'lumbo takes the familiar and makes the earth slide. – New York Newsday It's Mickey Mouse, the Stanford University marching band, Santana and Syd Barrett rolled into one... borders on genius. – Baltimore City Paper M'lumbo makes world music for some world other than Earth. – Dirty Linen To approach a merely adequate description, try and imagine a combination of Miles Davis, Sun Ra, traditional African music, and early Bonzo Dog Band... Very exciting, filled with unbridled energy and humor. The musicianship is superb and the arrangements exceptionally creative. – Alternative Press Celestial Mechanics M’Lumbo and Bloom share a general emphasis on space with Sun Ra. In some ways, however, they can be seen as approaching the unknown from an opposite perspective. While Sun Ra was an outsider visiting earth, one senses this band is instead exploring our continued spreading of radio waves through space.

:: View email as a web page :: In the latest episode of Indiecast — basically the podcast version of this newsletter, posted every Friday for your listening pleasure — Ian Cohen and I talked about the 20th anniversary of Linkin Park’s first album, Hybrid Theory, and whether nu metal has had any discernible influence on indie rock. Here’s the short answer: You can point to specific examples of tangible influence. (Deftones remain a significant touchstone for many contemporary indie rock bands.) But we wonder if the ultimate influence is philosophical. Nu metal was the first substantial breaking-down of the barrier between rock and hip-hop, where it wasn’t a gimmicky one-off a la Run-DMC’s “Walk This Way” but a fully integrated sound that wasn’t coming at hip-hop from an outsider/tourist perspective. These were people who grew up with that music and knew it. And looking at indie today, you don’t see many bands that are purely influenced just by rock from the 60s and 70s, the way grunge bands essentially were. It really has broadened things out. For the longer answer, check out the podcast here. -- Steven Hyden, Uproxx Cultural Critic and author of This Isn't Happening: Radiohead's "Kid A" and the Beginning of the 21st Century In case you missed it... Our YouTube channel is still evolving with a collection of classic music videos from Faith No More, Echo & The Bunnymen, Jane's Addiction, and more. The new episode of Indiecast recommends Floral Prince, the new collection from Field Medic that is incredibly relatable to the millenial mentality.

    • New 7" record featuring Anonymous 13 and Mike Patton • West Coast co-headlining tour with Dengue Fever • South America tour scheduled for April. After spending years expanding their reach abroad very significantly (see bio below), Secret Chiefs 3 are kicking off 2012 by making good on a promise to return to their home turf on the West Coast — this time in a co- headlining tour with Dengue Fever! They are also spicing up the long trail leading to the release of their long-awaited upcoming album Book of Souls by choosing this moment to release a very special single from that record, which involves some very special musical guests. Le Chanson du Jacky is a fiery three verse chanson written by Jacques Brel. In 1967 the nearly equally inimitable Scott Walker brilliantly re-interpreted Brel’s Chanson in English, to equal parts controversy and acclaim in the Anglosphere. In 2012, both versions of the tune have collided in an Anglo-Franco alliance, Secret Chiefs 3 style. This is an unprecedented stunt, simultaneously ill-advised and absolutely necessary, for a band like Secret Chiefs 3: Traditionalists to undertake — and it’s something that could only be pulled off with someone uniquely qualified to take command of the vocals. And in this day and age, who other than the maestro Mike Patton to do justice (and then some), without insult, to such a preposterously Spartan legacy as that of Brel and Walker? The flipside of this single (“The Western Exile”), exlusive to this release, sees one of the main themes from Secret Chiefs 3’s 2004 album Book of Horizons receiving a thunderhead-evoking spaghetti-seasoned aural marination.
