Disbelieving, but with little to lose, Witchworld gives up all the money he has left, and is transported to a land where magic vies with more mundane swords and bows. Tregarth rescues the witch, whom he much later learns is named Jaelithe, and enters the service of her homeland Estcarp, a land ruled by witches and threatened by many enemies. One of these enemies is the land of Gorm, which was bloodily taken over by the far-off, mysterious realm of Kolder. Estcarp's sole trusted ally is a nation of seafaring traders, the Sulcarmen. When Magnis Osberic, leader of the Sulcarmen, requests help at their citadel, Sulcarkeep, Tregarth and Jaelithe are Witchworld those sent to Witchworld aid. SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY PUBLISHED BY ACE BOOKS (1953-1968) Compiled by: DICK SPELMAN SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY PUBLISHED BY ACE BOOKS (1953-1968) Compiled by: DICK SPELMAN Published by: INSTITUTE FOR SPECIALIZED LITERATURE Post Office Box 4201 North Hollywood, California 91607 Copywrite - 1976 FORWARD The following listing of the alpha-numeric ACE BOOKS has been compiled in three parts: Part 1 - Listing by Publisher’s Number Part 2 - Listing by Author Part 3 - Listing by Title The data contained in the listing has been checked carefully against the actual books and has been proofread three time; I am certain that there are still some typing errors, however. I believe that the listing is complete and I can authenticate every entry from my own collection. There may be arguments, however, concerning some of the titles that I chose to include or exclude. Considering the importance of Edgar Rice Burroughs and Andre Norton to ACE BOOKS, I have included all of their titles, regardless of the science fictional content. On the other hand, I have excluded most of the STAR ("K") series, Asimov’s Is Anyone There? (N-4) and Lupoff’s biography of Edgar Rice Burroughs (N-6) on the basis that they are not science fiction. The system that I have used for alphabetizing is based on the first signif icant word, and any punctuation is disregarded. Therefore, "Moondust" (one word) is shown later in the listing than "Moon Maid" (two words), and "Game-Player" is considered a single word. I have been assisted greatly in making this listing by Don Kramer and Marty Massoglia, both members of the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society.

Old School Dungeons & Dragons™ Inspirational Reading List 2008 Edition Edited by Kellri [email protected] http://kellri.blogspot.com While there are bookcases in the upper studio, elsewhere on the second floor, and on the first floor, the main repository of printed lore (other than that piled here and there) is my basement library which includes thousands of reference works, maps, magazines, and works of fiction. - E. Gary Gygax Some guidelines for future contributors: (1) No Forgotten Realms/Dragonlance/etc. tie-ins. This is not a list of licensed gaming fiction. You’ll thank me later. (2) No campaign journals, fan-written fiction or other unpublished/amateur work. See (1). (3) No gaming sourcebooks, modules, rulebooks or magazines (unless they contain reprinted or original fiction). For a list of old school gaming materials, surf to the Acaeum. (4) Include in-line links to the material. In some cases these books are available online for free, if not, they are available from Amazon. Several gaming-related reader’s lists are already available at Amazon, and can be a decent way to find reviews for many of these books. c.f. http://www.amazon.com/D-Inspirational-Educational-Reading-Appendix/lm/2K4BPQB553DZ1 (5) A descriptive blurb would be great, or optionally a short list of keywords or tags for the DM looking for specific inspiration. • Discussion About Andre Norton
Science Fiction Book Club Interview with Jay Watts (February 2020) Jay Watts has been a collector of Andre Norton’s work for over 40 years. And he has been researching Norton and her work for that long as well. He is a representative of the Andre Norton Estate. And he runs http://Andre-Norton-Books.com. John DeLaughter: What themes was she most drawn to? Jay Watts: Her personal library contained a wide variety of items including but not limited to Victorian architecture and gardens, folk tales, cats (of course), Icelandic and Anglo-Saxon sagas, archaeology, the occult and witch craft, general history and oh so much more. As for writing – she would say she was a “fantasy” writer even though she tried her hand in so many different genres that it becomes mind-boggling (at least to me). Her action adventures of the 30s and 40s were written because that was what sold at the time. She did a lot of science fiction but she was anti-technology at heart. This is why most of her sci-fi never went into tech stuff, she preferred to “land- em and get-em off the ship as fast as possible.” She’s done gothic love stories, murder mysteries, historical novels, young adult stories, children stories, alternate world novels, time travel, westerns and more. Andre just wanted to be good story teller. Well, I think she managed that alright. Robert Matthew Knuckles: I've never read any of Norton's books, so what books do fans, or even Norton herself, recommended to newbies? Jay Watts: WOW – how to answer that.

A very fine addition to the Time Traders seriesBy FantasymanThis is a classic example of how Andre Norton crafts a story. Take some interesting characters, give them an important mission with the clock ticking to rush them along, and then let them loose on some alien world without them having the proper preparation, due to that ticking clock, and let them fend for themselves in dangerous situations. Ok, so the plot elements are essentially the same as the previous book in this series, The Defiant Agents. It's a series, that's why the plot elements are so much alike. Andre Norton fans understand that when they read one of her books they are in for a well told tale. She shares that same ability that Edgar Rice Burroughs possessed; the ability to return again and again to familiar plot elements, usually with different characters on different worlds, but essentially the same formula, and then tell a great story. Serious fantasy, sci-fi, or adventure aficionados recognize that the story is the most important thing, tell a good story and readers will willing accept the rehashing of familiar plot development schemes, time and time again.

Milo felt that these reptile men had been wronged by the Terrans and could be won over by brotherly love. But Rees knew the lshkur ians well, knew that the "crocs," as they were nick named, were filled with hate for all Terrans and could never be trusted. The Terran authorities had now decided to withdraw from Ishkur and allow self-government. Rees Naper's worst fears were realized when the crocs went on a killing rampage. Now they were searching for Rees' own scalp. Cut off from civilization, Rees saw that his only chance for survival was to outwit the cunning Ishkur ians. To do this he would have to learn to think like a croc, to feel like a croc, and see through the eye of the monster!
