Taylor Zusammenfassung: Kommunikation über Vibrationssignale in der Gruppe der Spitzkopf- zikaden (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha) ist allgegenwärtig, doch war der zugrundeliegende Mechanismus bis zu einem kürzlich erschienenen Artikel von Davranoglou et al. (2019) un- bekannt. In diesem Beitrag werden die funktionelle Morphologie, die Biomechanik des Ver- haltens und die systematische Verbreitung eines weitverbreiteten Vibrationsmechanismus´ beschrieben, den die Autoren als Schnapporgan („snapping organ“) bezeichneten. Der Me- chanismus dieses Schnapporgans unterscheidet sich prinzipiell von den einzigen vergleich- baren Vibrationsorganen innerhalb der Hemipteren, nämlich den Trommelorganen (Tymbal) der Singzikaden (Cicadidae, Cicadomorpha). Kurz nach der Veröffentlichung argumentier- ten Hoch et al. (2019), dass es „unnötig, wenn nicht sogar irreführend“ wäre, diesen Mecha- nismus als „snapping organ“ zu bezeichnen und führten aus, dass dieses vielmehr als tym- balähnliches Trommelorgan mit Schnappmechanismus („tymbalian tymbal organ with snap- ping mechanism“) bezeichnet werden sollte. Diese Bezeichnung bezieht sich auf die „Tym- balia“-Hypothese von Wessel et al. (2014), der zufolge alle bekannten abdominalen Vibrati- onsorgane der Hemiptera Modifikationen eines abdominalen Vibrationsorgans darstellen, das im letzten gemeinsamen Vorfahren der Fulgoromorpha, Cicadomorpha und Heterop- terodea vor 300 Mio. Jahren vorhanden war. In unserem Beitrag zeigen wir, dass die Krite- rien, die Wessel et al (2014) verwendeten, um das tymbalähnliche Trommelorgan zu definie- ren, auf fehlerhaften segmentalen Zuordnungen der Schlüsselmuskulaturen beruhen. Die „Tymbalia“-Hypothese muss daher neu evaluiert werden. -

Identification Key to the Subfamilies of Ichneumonidae (Hymenoptera)
Identification key to the subfamilies of Ichneumonidae (Hymenoptera) Gavin Broad Dept. of Entomology, The Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London SW7 5BD, UK Notes on the key, February 2011 This key to ichneumonid subfamilies should be regarded as a test version and feedback will be much appreciated (emails to [email protected]). Many of the illustrations are provisional and more characters need to be illustrated, which is a work in progress. Many of the scanning electron micrographs were taken by Sondra Ward for Ian Gauld’s series of volumes on the Ichneumonidae of Costa Rica. Many of the line drawings are by Mike Fitton. I am grateful to Pelle Magnusson for the photographs of Brachycyrtus ornatus and for his suggestion as to where to include this subfamily in the key. Other illustrations are my own work. Morphological terminology mostly follows Fitton et al. (1988). A comprehensively illustrated list of morphological terms employed here is in development. In lateral views, the anterior (head) end of the wasp is to the left and in dorsal or ventral images, the anterior (head) end is uppermost. There are a few exceptions (indicated in figure legends) and these will rectified soon. Identifying ichneumonids Identifying ichneumonids can be a daunting process, with about 2,400 species in Britain and Ireland. These are currently classified into 32 subfamilies (there are a few more extralimitally). Rather few of these subfamilies are reconisable on the basis of simple morphological character states, rather, they tend to be reconisable on combinations of characters that occur convergently and in different permutations across various groups of ichneumonids. -

TREWICK defining feature of the Hexapoda, as the name suggests, is six legs. Also, the body comprises a head, thorax, and abdomen. The number A of abdominal segments varies, however; there are only six in the Collembola (springtails), 9–12 in the Protura, and 10 in the Diplura, whereas in all other hexapods there are strictly 11. Insects are now regarded as comprising only those hexapods with 11 abdominal segments. Whereas crustaceans are the dominant group of arthropods in the sea, hexapods prevail on land, in numbers and biomass. Altogether, the Hexapoda constitutes the most diverse group of animals – the estimated number of described species worldwide is just over 900,000, with the beetles (order Coleoptera) comprising more than a third of these. Today, the Hexapoda is considered to contain four classes – the Insecta, and the Protura, Collembola, and Diplura. The latter three classes were formerly allied with the insect orders Archaeognatha (jumping bristletails) and Thysanura (silverfish) as the insect subclass Apterygota (‘wingless’). The Apterygota is now regarded as an artificial assemblage (Bitsch & Bitsch 2000). -

Vol. 2, No. 1, January 2007___________ Scope: Munis Entomology & Zoology publishes a wide variety of papers on all aspects of Entomology and Zoology from all of the world, including mainly studies on systematics, taxonomy, nomenclature, fauna, biogeography, biodiversity, ecology, morphology, behavior, conservation, pa!eobiology and other aspects are appropriate topics for papers submitted to Munis Entomology & Zoology. Submission of Manuscripts: Works published or under consideration elsewhere (including on the internet) will not be accepted. At first submission, one double spaced hard copy (text and tables) with figures (may not be original) must be sent to the Editors, Dr. Hüseyin Özdikmen for publication in MEZ. All manuscripts should be submitted as Word file or PDF file in an e-mail attachment. If electronic submission is not possible due to limitations of electronic space at the sending or receiving ends, unavailability of e-mail, etc., we will accept ―hard‖ versions, in triplicate, accompanied by an electronic version stored in a floppy disk, a CD-ROM. Review Process: When submitting manuscripts, all authors provides the name, of at least three qualified experts (they also provide their address, subject fields and e-mails). Then, the editors send to experts to review the papers. The review process should normally be completed within 45-60 days. After reviewing papers by reviwers: Rejected papers are discarded. For accepted papers, authors are asked to modify their papers according to suggestions of the reviewers and editors. Final versions of manuscripts and figures are needed in a digital format. -

We found the brown minute scavenger beetle (Corticaria sp.) at so many survey plots for the Little Things that Run the City project that we dubbed the species ‘Old Faithful’. I’ve recreated the map of the City of Melbourne within the beetle’s body. Can you trace the outline of Port Phillip Bay? Can you recognise the shape of your suburb? Next time you’re walking in a park or garden in the City of Melbourne, keep a keen eye out for this ubiquitous little beetle. -

Iran. ABSTRACT. Iranian species of the genus Erigorgus Forster, 1869 are taxonomically reviewed. The sampling was done using Malaise traps in Eastern provinces of Iran. Two species, Erigorgus cerinops (Gravenhorst, 1829) Received: 12 March, 2019 and Erigorgus fibulator (Gravenhorst, 1829) are reviewed, of which the second species represents occurrence of this genus in East of Iran.
