Dear Students and Parents, March 20, 2017 Recital costumes have begun to arrive and we will start passing them out in class soon. We will have the students of all disciplines in Levels 1-5 try on their costume (over their leotard/tights) in class so that I and/or their instructor can check everyone for a proper fit. Please keep in mind that these costumes were made in a factory to fit a basic body type according to the measurements that we took of your child. If the costume is way too big or way too small, we will try to have it fixed. Per the costume company’s policies, we will not be able to return it for a new one. Once the costume goes home with the student, it is your responsibility to put the dancer’s name on the inside tag of the costume and keep it hung up (upside down for tutus) and ready for Dress Rehearsal and Recital Day on June 16-17, 2017. A label with the student’s name, class and tights/hair/ requirements will be placed on the outside bag of the costume for your reference (so make sure their name is on the inside tag). Please take care of getting the required and tights NOW in case supplies run out later. This has been a great year at SADA! We will be showcasing our students in a 2:00 Matinee Recital on Saturday, June 17th at the beautiful Lila Cockrell Theatre! Please refer to the attached Recital Program page to see the order of that your child will be performing in. Please keep in mind that we are featuring all of our SADA students so the show will run between 3-3 1/2 hours that day. There is always a high demand for tickets to our Recitals, so I encourage you to buy your tickets EARLY. Tickets will go on sale at SADA on Monday, May 15th and will be sold until our Dress Rehearsal on June 16th. We will again be issuing TWO free tickets per paid Recital Fee, and additional tickets may be purchased for $10 each. Remember: NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD on the day of the Recital, so be sure to purchase yours early! IMPORTANT: DRESS REHEARSAL IS MANDATORY FOR ALL PERFORMERS!! Mandatory means you must be at the Dress Rehearsal on Friday, June 16th (11:00 am- 5:00 pm for all Recital performers) or you will not be able to perform the next day at Recital!! Young children (ages 3-6) in Pre-K , Kinder Ballet, Pre-Ballet or Kinder Tap will only need to be at Dress Rehearsal from 11:00 am-12:00 noon. Everyone please refer to our IMPORTANT DATES page for the approximate times that the dancers will be rehearsed at Dress Rehearsal. Please be there early in case we are running ahead of schedule and please be patient if we are running behind schedule. Again, if you are not at Dress Rehearsal, you will not be allowed to perform at Recital. I say/write it every year and yet there are always those who think their situation is unique and the rule doesn’t apply to them. It applies to EVERYONE…No Exceptions! Parents, have a contingency plan ready in case you are unable to bring your dancer to Dress Rehearsal on Friday, June 16th.

We will have IMAGES Photography take Recital photos again this year at SADA. Our PHOTO CALL DATES are : Sat., April 29th from 1:30- 7:30pm and Sun., May 21st from 12:00-6:00pm. Sign-up sheets will be posted in the lobby beginning April 3rd for our first Photo Call and May 1st for our second Photo Call. Only sign-up for a time slot if you actually intend on bringing your child in their Recital costume to be photographed. It’s a wonderful opportunity to have a keepsake of your dancer, with reasonable prices (NO sitting fees!) and with minimal hassle. Mexican Folkloric and costumes may be borrowed for the SADA Photo Call only. We will not be able to loan them out to anyone for pictures away from SADA. Photo package prices will be displayed in the lobby along with the sign-up sheets – you will pay IMAGES Photography directly for your photos. Attached please find information for purchasing ads for our 27th annual Recital Souvenir Program. Take advantage of this chance to commemorate your child’s achievement this year with a professionally produced ad in our program. If you want to include a photo of your child (or group photo) you will need to fill out an order form (available at the front desk) and turn it in (with payment) no later than Sat., May 20th at 3:00pm. Perhaps you know of a business that would like to advertise in our program? Our program is a wonderful way for business ads to be seen by over 2000 people in one day! Business ads and dancer photos will all need an order form and we will begin receiving Program Ad forms (with payment) on Sat., April 22nd at 9:00am. With only four opportunities for COLOR ads (Inside + Outside Covers) it will be first come first served and we will post when all four covers have been sold. In conclusion, I’d like to remind you that in addition to offering excellent training, SADA is known for putting on one of the BEST recitals in town. Be sure to allow extra time on both days to navigate the available parking garages near the Convention Center. The students have worked so hard all year and I’m very excited to see them shine at the 27th Annual Recital! Let’s all do our best to give our students the BEST SHOW EVER—they are a “STAR” for the day!! Happy Dancing!

Be prepared for the theatre to be slightly cold. Jackets and dance warm-ups are a good idea while waiting! No jackets or warm-ups may be worn during Dress Rehearsal on the stage!

Instructors will guide the dancers through the space on the stage for the first time. This is a very important process because it will be the first time the dancers have a chance to locate their positions on the stage! We will go in the order of the show, when you are finished with your last dance, hang up your costumes and sit quietly in the audience (in your street clothes) or you may leave. All 2nd Act Performers will need to stay until we have staged the 2nd Act Bows.

MANDATORY means: If you DO NOT attend DRESS REHEARSAL you CANNOT PERFORM IN THE RECITAL. PERIOD.

Treat this as if it is the actual performance of the Recital! COSTUME, HAIR, MAKE-UP, EVERYTHING is exactly as it will look for RECITAL!

Parents: After you have prepared your child for dress rehearsal, EVERYONE must sit out in the audience. ONLY those working backstage will be allowed to remain during dress rehearsal. All students will be lined up by class backstage. NO ONE will be “called” for his or her dance at Dress Rehearsal. After the Pre-K Ballet, Kinder Ballet, Pre-Ballet & Kinder Tap classes have performed their last number at Dress Rehearsal you are free to leave and take them home to rest up for tomorrow’s show. THEY MUST BE DRESSED and READY for RECITAL by 1:30pm Saturday! (Half Hour Call) DO NOT BE LATE!

***IMPORTANT: Pictures or videotaping will only be allowed on Friday, June 16th during the Dress Rehearsal. NO ONE will be allowed to bring CAMERAS or VIDEO EQUIPMENT into the theatre during the recital performance. It is the policy of the Lila Cockrell Theatre, San Antonio Dance Academy and Ms. Tatum to have the recital professionally videotaped only. Flash photography at the recital or in rehearsals is not only distracting to the audience but extremely dangerous for the performers. Texting or using the camera on your phone is very distracting to your fellow audience members! PLEASE DON’T DO IT! Also, LAPTOP COMPUTERS, CD PLAYERS, TVs, OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF ELECTRONIC DEVICE will not be allowed in the theatre during the recital. Anyone violating these RULES will result in the equipment being confiscated by the SAPD officer on duty. Any confiscated equipment will be held until the end of the show. A few suggestions for teaching our children (and our adult friends and family) on how to be good Audience Members: 1. No food or drinks in the Theatre 2. Do not talk (on the phone or to each other) during a dance. Respect the performers onstage. 3. Do not enter or exit your seat during a dance. After the dance is over, it is acceptable to do that. Respect the performers onstage. 4. Do not text or use the camera on your phone during any part of the show. It is rude and distracting to your fellow audience members. 5. Yelling a dancer’s name out during the dance is tacky, rude and could ”throw” the dancer off his/her concentration. Please do not do it. Thank you! Recital Requirements 2017* If a dancer is performing in more than ONE number please purchase a tan basic “camisole” leotard to wear under all costumes for privacy while changing!

*Please check the Label on the outside of your Recital costume bag for the specific requirements for each class dance regarding shoes, tights, hair, etc.
