Swiss Contribution: reconstructing the educational infrastructure damaged by the

1,500,000 Swiss Francs devastating floods in 2010. The reconstruction is going to be realized within the framework of the “ Commitment for Child-Friendly Inclusive Schools to Ensure Quality Education for Time Frame: All”. In the first phase of the project, six out of 33 fully damaged November 2011 to primary schools in the district will be rebuilt. Furthermore, September 2012 SDC Humanitarian Aid is going to rehabilitate 17 partially damaged schools in Swat and as well as in Charsadda and

Nowshera districts.

Objective The objective of the Project is that boys and girls in selected flood affected districts of KPK have a better access to primary education, and that the communities benefit from centrally located disaster resilient schools.

Expected results (1st phase 11/2011 to 09/2012)  In the first phase, six permanent school buildings are reconstructed in the communities of Badalai, Shinkoo and Manai.  17 partially damaged schools are rehabilitated to improve classroom and hygiene conditions in the district of Swat, as well as in communities in Charsadda and Nowshera districts.  SDC has facilitated the construction of four Transitional School Structures of UNICEF in Charsadda and Nowshera districts. These school structures are later on used as Women’s Centres.  ln cooperation with UN-HABITAT, local self builders are trained in "building back better" at the Competence Centers, which are set up at the school reconstruction sites of SDC-HA.

SDC-HA school projects to assure quality education.

 SDC-HA has already contributed to the construction of 90 schools in Manshera and Battagram in KPK according to anti- seismic norms following the major earthquake of 2005, and therefore can boast of its long-standing experience, solid partnerships, and well-developed network.
