  • NFL World Championship Game, the Super Bowl Has Grown to Become One of the Largest Sports Spectacles in the United States
/ The Golden Anniversary ofthe Super Bowl: A Legacy 50 Years in the Making An Honors Thesis (HONR 499) by Chelsea Police Thesis Advisor Mr. Neil Behrman Signed Ball State University Muncie, Indiana May 2016 Expected Date of Graduation May 2016 §pCoJI U ncler.9 rod /he. 51;;:, J_:D ;l.o/80J · Z'7 The Golden Anniversary ofthe Super Bowl: A Legacy 50 Years in the Making ~0/G , PG.5 Abstract Originally known as the AFL-NFL World Championship Game, the Super Bowl has grown to become one of the largest sports spectacles in the United States. Cities across the cotintry compete for the right to host this prestigious event. The reputation of such an occasion has caused an increase in demand and price for tickets, making attendance nearly impossible for the average fan. As a result, the National Football League has implemented free events for local residents and out-of-town visitors. This, along with broadcasting the game, creates an inclusive environment for all fans, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of professional sports. This paper explores the growth of the Super Bowl from a novelty game to one of the country' s most popular professional sporting events. Acknowledgements First, and foremost, I would like to thank my parents for their unending support. Thank you for allowing me to try new things and learn from my mistakes. Most importantly, thank you for believing that I have the ability to achieve anything I desire. Second, I would like to thank my brother for being an incredible role model.

SUPER BOWL XLV ON FOX IS MOST-WATCHED PROGRAM IN TV HISTORY Game Obliterates Prior Record; Sets Super Bowl Mark for Fourth Straight Year Prime Time Audience Exceeds 100 Million for First Time Irving, TX – History was made last night on FOX when Super Bowl XLV became the most- watched U.S. television program ever, and FOX became the first network ever to exceed 100 million viewers (100.9 million) for a night in prime time, according to fast-national ratings released today by Nielsen Media Research. The game, the outcome of which was in doubt until the final seconds, saw the Green Bay Packers defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25 to capture the franchise’s fourth Super Bowl Championship. FOX Sports’ broadcast of Super Bowl XLV averaged 111 million viewers and is the most- watched television program in U.S. history, obliterating the prior record of 106.5 set last year during Super Bowl XLIV by 4.5 million viewers and the 106.0 million for the series finale of M*A*S*H, which held the viewership record from 1983 to 2010. This is the fourth consecutive Super Bowl to set a viewership record, and attracted 13.5 million more viewers than FOX’s last Super Bowl broadcast in 2008 (97.5 million) for the New York Giants upset of the undefeated New England Patriots. No other major sporting event has ever hit a record high in four consecutive years. This also marks the sixth straight year that Super Bowl viewership has increased, and over that span average Super Bowl viewership has increased from 86.1 million in 2005 to 111.0 million, a gain of nearly 25 million viewers.

  • 2020 Packers Activity Guide
PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME TEACHER ACTIVITY GUIDE 2020-2021 EDITIOn quarterback Brett Favre - Hall of fame class of 2016 GREEn BAY PACKERS Team History The incredible saga of the Green Bay Packers began in August 1919, when the Indian Packing Company agreed to sponsor a local pro football team under the direction of Earl (Curly) Lambeau. In 1921, the Packers were granted a membership in the new National Football League. Today, they rank as the third oldest team in pro football. The long and storied history of the Green Bay team is one of struggle, until comparatively recent, for financial survival off the field and playing stability on the field. The Packers’ record has been punctuated with periods of both the highest success and the deepest depths of defeat. Many great football players have performed for the Green Bay team but two coaches, Lambeau and Vince Lombardi, rank as the most dominant figures in the Packers’ epic. Between the two, Lambeau and Lombardi brought the Packers 11 NFL championships, including two record strings of three straight titles, the first in 1929, 1930 and 1931 and the second in 1965, 1966 and 1967. Those last three championships completed the Packers’ dynasty years in the 1960s, which began with Green Bay also winning NFL championships in 1961 and 1962. During the late 1930s and early 1940s, the Lambeau-led Packers were annual championship contenders. They won four divisional crowns and 3 NFL titles. Individually, Lambeau, Lombardi and 24 long-time Packers greats are enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

  • From Super Bowl Player to Super Bowl Ceo Green Bay Packers President and Ceo Mark Murphy on Leadership
from super bowl player to super bowl ceo green bay packers president and ceo mark murphy on leadership On February 6, 2011, the Green Bay Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 31- 25 in a thrilling Super Bowl XLV victory. The triumph capped an unlikely run in which the Packers overcame the loss of 16 players to injured reserve during the season and rose from the lowest seed in the NFC playoffs to emerge as world champions. Just as unlikely and compelling has been the career trajectory of Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy. A graduate of Colgate University, Murphy achieved a rare feat by entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent safety and enjoying an eight-year playing career. He was a co-captain of the Washington Redskins from 1980-84; a Super Bowl champion in 1982; an All-Pro and Pro Bowler in 1983; and the vice president of the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) in 1983 and 1984. After his playing career concluded, Murphy earned a law degree and returned to Mark Murphy the NFL as assistant executive director of the NFLPA. Following a stint as a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice, he made a name for himself as a successful athletic director at his alma mater Colgate, and then at Northwestern University, before becoming president and CEO of the Green Bay Packers in 2008. With the Packers’ recent Super Bowl victory, Murphy made history as the first person to win Super Bowls both as a player and as the head of an NFL franchise.

From Joe Namath in pantyhose to the passion of the fans, it’s all about heart—and not just about football. FEBRUARY 2011 FEBRUARY FEBRUARY 2011 “HUDDLE UP!” It sounds so close to “cuddle up”—but suggest that similarity to a 350-pound tackle and you might end up on the hurtin’ end of a sack. Still, the seemingly remote worlds of love and football overlap in many ways—and not just in February, a month that brings us the Super Bowl and Valentine’s Day. There’s fan love, of course. And the love of the game. There’s the love the players feel for each other. The love a couch potato has for his Bud Lite. And the love his wife shows every time she pretends to be interested in the “wildcat” formation. There are women in love with the game, too—so much so that they passionately play it and report on it. Yes, love and football have been huddling for decades. Who knew that when John Madden was hollering about the red zone, he meant the heart?
