Benjamin Spencer - GFAFB A record crowd of 275 people attended the 10th Annual State of the Base. Base Commander Benjamin Spencer and Chief Brian Thomas both briefed the group on the current missions, recent base awards Staff and new things happening at GFAFB. Representative Delmore will be completing her 24th year in the ND House of Representatives. Last Ses- sion Lois was on the Appropriations Committee. Joining Lois is Bruce Gjovig, entrepreneur coach and recently retired Director of the Center For Innova- Bruce Gjovig Lois Delmore tion for UND. The two will be working primarily on the Team Grand Forks Agenda and are do- ing this on a voluntary basis. The Chamber and all of Team Grand Forks is excited about having two individuals with such respect and board connections working on the community legislative agenda with our great team of Grand Forks area Legis- lators.Military Affairs Committe (MAC) Visits Cavalier, ND Air Base Legislative Priorities for Grand Forks Set The Team Grand Forks Committee has been meeting for months preparing a list of priorities for the upcoming ND Legislative session. The following is the list of priorities: i. Infrastructure Funding Package ii. Grand Sky Infrastructure Request iii. UNDs 1. UND Research Funding 2. Deferred Maintenance Funding 3. UND/NDSU Funding Flexibility/Autonomy iv. Military Spouse License Reciprocity v. Base Retention Funding This list is always fluid during the session to adapt to changes in budget and pri- orities as they evolve. This is the 5th legislative session for Team Grand Forks which is a combined effort of the Chamber, Economic Development Corporation, City of Grand Forks, Grand Forks County and UND. Several meetings are on the horizon with local legislators in early December to discuss strategy. The Chamber will discuss the MN and ND Chamber’s legislative agendas at the December Board meeting. In the past, the Chamber has supported both agen- das as our business agenda during the session. The Chamber also supports the Greater MN Cities agenda for border cities legislation and the Greater MN priorities like workforce housing. Disney Institude to Return to Grand Forks April 16th The Chamber is bringing in the very popular Disney Institute this spring. Disney Institute uses business insights and time-tested examples from Walt Disney Parks and Resorts worldwide to provide relevant illustrations and engaging stories that help you develop the customer experience culture you are capable of delivering. Plan to attend the day long training now and watch your email for further details and registration information as it becomes available in January. 3 BRIC Members meet with Air Force leaders Community members visited ACC Headquarters to meet with AirForce Leaders last week at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia and 25th Air- Force Leaders at Lackland Air Force base in San Antonio Texas. GFAFB is part of Air Combat Command led by General Holmes and part of the 25th Air Force Headquartered led by Major General Mary O’Brien in Texas. The Chamber AG Agribusiness Committee hosted over 300 guests for a FREE “Farmers Night Out.” The night began with a warm welcome from Carah Hart, the Chamber Agribusiness Committee Chair, that was followed by a personal speech by Ag Commissioner Doug Gohring. After a delicious meal, the crowd was entertained with the Fun Piano Show. This dueling piano show played fun favorites with an interractive R program. There was an assortment of prizes distributed to chosen guests throughout the evening. Thanks again to our area producers for stopping by and enjoying a night on us.
