“In accordance with Rule 2.13 Publication of ownership in relation to Step 1 to Step 6 clubs in the Football Pyramid we hereby con rm that the legal status of Soham Town Rangers Football Club as An Unincorporated Association (Members Club)” INTRODUCING ‘PITCHING IN’ – THE NEW PARTNER OF THE ISTHMIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

GVC is delighted to announce that the new sponsor of the, Isthmian, Northern Premier and Southern Leagues - is Pitching In.

Pitching In, is a new Grassroots Sports Investment Programme that has today been launched by GVC, the multi-national sports-betting and gaming group which owns Ladbrokes and Coral.

The partnership covers all three leagues that make up Steps 3 & 4 of the National Leagues System, who market themselves collectively as the Trident Leagues.

England footballing legend Stuart Pearce, who played for Wealdstone FC for five years at the start of his long and illustrious career, has been appointed as the official Pitching In ambassador.

Stuart Pearce, ambassador for the Pitching In programme, says:

“I am delighted to be taking up the role of ambassador for Pitching In, as I’m passionate about the importance of investing in grassroots sports and in developing young talent. I started out playing for Wealdstone FC before joining Coventry City so I understand how important funding is to the non-league game. Grassroots football is facing huge challenges at the moment and many clubs are struggling to stay afloat. GVC’s Pitching In investment will help make a big difference to hundreds of clubs and thousands of players across the country.”

Pitching In has been set up with the objective of supporting, protecting and encouraging grassroots sports in the UK through a range of initiatives.

In addition to financial support, a key focus of the partnership will be to facilitate and encourage members of the community to become volunteers, and do some pitching in of their own. A Pitching In volunteering scheme will be established to link GVC’s Ladbrokes and Coral shop colleagues with their local clubs.

In the weeks ahead Pitching In and the Trident Leagues will be announcing further initiatives to provide financial support and opportunities for all the 226 clubs (rising to 240 in 2021).

NOTES FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Welcome to Corby a traditional and strong non-league club. We hope you enjoy your visit today and wish you well in your league this year, but have to say I hope you come second this afternoon!

Well our big TV debut won hearts but no progression. An interesting encounter against a new team, that sums up the new world. Like or dislike them Hashtag are excellent and creating and then maximising a brand and using social media to do so globally. I wish them well in the next round

My biggest learning was not about football but about Covid-19 control. I must state that the stewards at Hashtag were trying but a lack of adherence to basic rules I think out people’s health at risk. We have read the rules from government and the FA and implemented them. Not to be dogmatic and intrusive but to safeguard you our fans, our players and staff from a horrid situation. I thank you for your adherence to these and for attending our games. The club has implemented a peak time nine-way system using the entrance door closest to the main ground entrance and an exit through the double doors in the middle of the club. If you need to use the WC’s please exit through the gable end door and then renter the club in this system.

Finally for now, last week we played last year’s runaway league leaders and should have ran out winners. However, the point was totally marred by the serious injury to Sam Mulready. He has an appointment at a fracture clinic this week but had dislocated his shoulder. We obviously hope that he recovers well and fast knowing full well that he will.be missed and almost impossible to replace. I have set up the following go fund me page to help Sam Mulready speed up his return to our team. Please support if you can. https://www.gofundme.com/f/sams-shoulder

Best wishes Sam from all at STRFC.

Come on you Greens!

Mark Goldsack

Committee Meeting on Monday 28th September at 7:30pm To take place in the lounge bar at the Social Club under strict social distancing conditions Dates for future meetings will be confirmed during meeting NOTES FROM THE MANAGER

Hello everyone, After a positive performance against Maldon and Tiptree in the league on Saturday and a decent performance against Hashtag in the FA Cup it’s been a mixed week in emotions for the squad. The disappointment of losing on penalty’s on Monday is still with me but as a management team we will do everything for the players to pick themselves up and try to use that disappointment to kick on this season as we have a great opportunity to do so. There is no denying being on TV was an unreal experience for the club but not progressing really hurts considering we probably should have with the overall play in 90 minutes but we all know penalty’s are a lottery. Add a little bit of body text On the injury front losing Sam Mulready is devastating news for everyone after he dislocated his shoulder last weekend and he will be out till New Year at least. A fantastic player and great lad who will be missed but with Sam being out injured it gives someone else the chance to step up.

We have a tough game today against a well-supported Corby Town who will be looking to gain promotion this year, they have a manager who has achieved everything and will have a strong squad to compete this year. We will have to be at the best of our game today and hope we can in front of a faithful following at JML

We also have a tough game in the league on Tuesday against a Histon side but I’m sure it will be an exciting one.

I hope you all enjoy today’s game and a hopefully we can put a good run in the FA Trophy for you all.

Stay safe and take care

A brief history

Soham Town Rangers were formed in 1947 as a result of a merger between Soham Rangers (Formed 1919) and Soham Town (Formed 1920). The Julius Martin Lane ground, which at the time was the home of Soham Town, is still the home of the club today, after it was purchased in 1952.

The new club started life in the Cambs League, also running a Reserve team. In 1956, they joined the League where they were to remain until 1963. During their time there, they won the league and the league cup on three separate occasions. A measure of the level of support enjoyed by non-league clubs in those days was the fact that on their first home game of the season, on August 22nd 1956, a local derby against near neighbours Ely City, over 500 match day programmes were sold - Unfortunately, the 6-2 drubbing for the hosts took the shine off the day.

The club joined the Eastern Counties League in 1963 and remained there until 2008. During this time, considerable ground development has taken place - The social club was built in 1968, new dressing rooms and showers were erected in 1979, along with a grandstand extension. In 1981, a lounge bar extension was added to the social club. Floodlights were erected in 1983 and were inaugurated by the visit of an Arsenal XI in front of 1200 spectators. A new grandstand eventually replaced the original wooden structure at the beginning of the 1990’s, whilst various other developments have taken place in order to qualify the club to compete at step four in the non-league pyramid.

Soham enjoyed considerable success in the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup during the 1990’s, winning it on three separate occasions, including for the first time in their history in 1991 defeating March Town United, before repeating the feat again in 1998 and 1999 against Wisbech Town and Newmarket Town respectively. The Greens were also the first winners of the Eastern Counties Millennium League Cup, when they defeated Diss Town on penalties in the final in 2001.

The 2007-08 season was to be the clubs most successful season to date winning the Eastern Counties Premier Division for the first time, beating nearest challengers Needham Market 4-0 on the final day of the season to clinch the title in front of 680 spectators at the Lane, and with it promotion to the Southern League for the first time in their history. In the first three seasons in the Southern League, Soham recorded finishes of 15th, 11th and 17th. At the end of the 2010-11 campaign, Ian Benjamin, who had been at the club for six seasons and was in charge of the 2008 title winning side, stepped down from his position as 1st Team Manager.

Soham transferred to the Division One North for the 2011/12 season with former striker Andrew Furnell returning to take over as Player/Manager. However with the Greens languishing near the foot of the table, Furnell was replaced by former Histon Managers Steve Fallon and Ian Hart in March, with the club finishing the season fourth from bottom. It was a successful campaign for the club’s other sides though, with the Reserves returning to the Kershaw Premier Division after finishing as runners-up in Cambs Senior A, whilst the Under 18s progressed to the 1st round of the FA Youth Cup, where they were beaten by Charlton Athletic in front of a crowd of over 500 people at the Lane.

The 2012/13 season saw Soham record their highest ever League position, finishing seventh in the Isthmian League North Division, five points outside the play-offs. Soham won the Cambs Invitation Cup for the fifth time in their history in 2014 beating CRC 6-1 at the Abbey Stadium, but were unable to retain the trophy the following season, narrowly losing 2-1 to Cambridge City in the final. Soham did finish the season with an accolade though, winning the Isthmian League Respect award for the second consecutive year having gone through the season having not collected any dissent points, which saw the club commended in the end of season FA Respect and Fair Play awards.

Following a difficult start to the 2015/16 campaign, Steve Fallon stepped down as Manager at the start of October to be replaced by senior players Robbie Nightingale and David Theobald, who eventually guided the Greens to seventeenth position before leaving to take over at Cambridge City in December 2016. Rob Mason was appointed player/manager, and following a difficult start, finished the season seven games unbeaten, with the Greens securing their League survival on the final day of the campaign with a 4-3 home win against Maldon and Tiptree, with two goals in the final five minutes.

The last two completed seasons have seen finishes of thirteenth and sixteenth in the table.

Having run with only one senior side last year, the club reformed the Reserves and A Team for the 2019-20 campaign, with both sides competing in the Cambridgeshire County League.

This season marks 100 years of football being played at Julius Martin Lane, with the club arranging a number of events to mark the occasion.

Corby Town FC

Corby Town Football Club were formed in 1948 and are the second club to represent the town, following Stewarts & Lloyds Corby, who were formed 13 years earlier in 1935. The club’s nickname ‘The Steelmen’ derives from the old steelworks that were in Corby.

The first chairman of the club was local MP William Montgomery, whilst Reg Smith was named the first manager. Smith had previously played for Millwall and Dundee whilst representing at international level. Things started well for the newly formed Steelmen, winning their first game 5-1 against Wellingborough Town on 21 August 1948 at Occupation Road, which was home to Corby Town until the move to the Rockingham Triangle in 1985. It took the club only three years to win their first title, wrapping up the United Counties League in 1951 before doing the same again only a year later, with Ernie Middlemiss scoring a club record 135 goals in 136 games, a record that was to stand for 40 years. 1958 saw the introduction of floodlit football in Corby and in the same year the club moved from the Midland League to the Southern League.

The move to the Southern League looked to be a good one as the club narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier Division in 1964, but promotion was gained the following year. The club made several unsuccessful applications to join the Football League, although they did receive one vote in 1966.

The club moved to the multi-purpose Rockingham Triangle venue in 1985 but it didn’t prove to be a lucky move as the Steelmen were once again relegated from the Premier Division in 1990. They didn’t spend long out of the Premier as they achieved a league and cup double the following season. The mid-90s saw a cash crisis at the club which threatened to put the club out of business, and although they were spared, relegation was to follow.

The turn of the millennium brought about more positivity at the Triangle as they consolidated their mid- table position in the Dr Martens league. More was to follow in 2005 as they just missed out on a play-off place under manager Rob Dunion. Dunion’s side went one better in 2006 as they were promoted once more.

Corby Town saw a change of ownership in 2007 as a new board made up of ex-Kettering Town chairman Peter Mallinger, David Dunham and Mick Leech and in 2009, under Graham Drury, the Steelmen won the Southern League title. The Steelmen narrowly missed out on a play-off spot during their first season in the Conference North.

Club chairman Peter Mallinger sadly passed away in January 2011, just months before the club’s new 3,000 capacity Steel Park stadium was due to open. His son David Mallinger took charge of the club and a positive start to life in their new home led the Steelmen into play-off contention and the first round proper of the FA Cup, where they were beaten by Bristol Rovers at the half-way stage.

Sadly off-field issues had an affect on results and Corby only managed to avoid relegation on the final day of the 2011/12 season, with Graham Drury leaving the club at the end of the campaign.

In the summer of 2012, a businessman took control of the club, with Ian Sampson being installed as manager. However after a tough start to the season Sampson departed and was replaced by his assistant manager Chris Plummer. The former Peterborough Northern Star manager could not repeat the survival act of the previous year however, with Corby Town being relegated from the Blue Square North at the end of the season.

Plummer remained in charge of the side, however resigned just two games into the 2013/14 season after heavy defeats against Burnham and Hemel Hempstead Town. The Chairman moved to appoint the managerial duo of Tommy Wright and Andrew Wilson, who helped to guide the club up the Southern League Premier Division table, however once again financial issues at the club prevented any real challenge to reach the play-offs.

In April 2014 it was announced that a local consortium of seven businessmen headed by Paul Glass had agreed a deal to purchase the club and save it from the threat of administration. Stevie Noble was appointed as the chairman and Tommy Wright was given sole charge of the first team, with Andrew Wilson departing.

In his first year in charge of the side Tommy Wright led his team to the Southern League Premier Division Championship. The Steelmen secured the title and promotion back to the Conference North with a dramatic 3-2 win on the final day of the season against Poole Town who had led the division by one point going into that fixture. Spencer Weir-Daley scored the winning goal for Corby with just nine minutes remaining.

However Corby suffered relegation after just one season in the National North. After a period of uncertainty as to which league Corby would be placed in by the F.A., we now make our first ever start in the Northern for season 2016/2017.

Tommy Wright was relieved of his position in early October 2016 after a poor start, he was replaced by Gary Mills ex Kings Lynn, and Wrexham Assistant manager in mid-October 2016 as Corby look to kick start season 2016/2017. However Mills was relieved of his position after just 6 months, the job being placed in Steven Kinniburgh’s hands for the rest of this season 2016/2017 ( Caretaker)

In early May 2017 David Bell was appointed Manager along with Rob Gould as his Assistant as Corby hope they can succeed in getting the club back into the 4th tier after 2 relegations in succession tumbling from the National North thro the Northern Premier Leagues in successive seasons.

After a poor start to the 2017/2018 season the club parted company with them in late September 2017. Director of Football Steven Kinniburgh taking charge in a capacity of interim manager. Steven was made permanent manager in Late March 2018.He appointed Ashley Robinson as his assistant in June 2018.Kinniburgh resigned his position in July 2019.

Corby appointed senior players Gary Mulligan and Ash Robinson interim managers with Elliot Sandy as assistant to them. Mark Peters was installed as Temporary Manager in Feb 2020.In May 2020 Tommy Wright returned as Manager he led Corby to the Conference North (now National) in his first spell. However Tommy resigned weeks before the start of the season due to Family Concerns.

Corby then appointed Gary Mills as Manager, Gary found fame with Leicester in the Premier Div before managing York City back to the Football League and winning the F.A. trophy in the same season.
