We're Expanding Our Product Line-Up to the Tohoku Area for Overseas September 14, 2017 East Japan Railway Company JR EAST VIEW Travel Service Co., ltd. We’re expanding our product line-up to the Tohoku Area for overseas visitors to Japan! The East Japan Railway Company (JR East) and JR EAST VIEW Travel Service Co., ltd. (VTS) offer multi-faceted "Flight + JR" travel products aimed at overseas visitors to Japan in collaboration with international airlines. We’re excited to announce the launch of new products for visitors to the Tohoku area from China. In addition to international airlines, we are also cooperating with the Beijing JPYOO International Travel Co., Ltd. (the local Chinese subsidiary of ET Mobile Japan Co., Ltd., written as JPYOO Travel Co. below) with whom VTS is in a business partnership. Together we have worked on the establishment and sale of these products in order to increase inbound demand to the Tohoku area. 1. Tohoku/Yamagata excursion products in cooperation with Air China Since August 2016, we have offered the "Eastern Japan Tokyo Rail Days Sendai/Tokyo Rail Free Plan" in cooperation with JPYOO Travel Co. as a joint product with Air China. It is a specially priced travel product that allows for an excursion between Tohoku and Tokyo with Sendai Airport as a gateway using trains such as the Tohoku Shinkansen. At this time, we would like to launch the "Eastern Japan Tokyo Rail Days Yamagata/Tokyo Rail Free Plan" with the addition of discount lodging within Yamagata Prefecture in cooperation with Yamagata’s "Promotion Project Cooperated with Sendai International Airport."     JENESYS2019 ASEAN Inbound Program 4th Batch Program Report Theme: Movie and Art Country: Myanmar 1. Program Overview 11 youths from Myanmar who had interests in movie and art visited Japan for a period of 9 days from October 8 to 16, 2019 as part of JENESYS 2019 under the theme of “Movie and Art”. The delegations attended a theme-related lecture in Tokyo and observed museums, university, and art galleries to deepen the knowledge of Japanese art. Afterwards, they visited Yamagata prefecture and participated in the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival as well as had some opportunities to discuss the expressions of movie and art with stakeholders of the festival. It promoted interactions between Japan and Myanmar and deepened the friendly relationship between two countries. During the program, the participants showed strong interests in Japanese movie productions and unique cultures, as well as shared their discoveries and experiences in Japan through Social Media. Overview A powerful 9.0-magnitude earthquake hit Japan on March 11 at 1446 local time (0546 GMT), unleashing massive tsunami waves that crashed into Japan’s northeastern coast of Honshu, the largest and main island of Japan, resulting in widespread damage and destruction. According to the Government of Japan (GoJ), as of Friday (April 1), 11,734 people are confirmed dead and 16,375 people are reported to be missing. (Kyodo, Reuters, April 1) There are no new figures for the number of injured, but the UN reported last week that 2,766 people 1 were injured. Casualty numbers are likely to increase as emergency teams continue to reach and assess affected areas. The earthquake sparked widespread tsunami warnings across the Pacific. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the shallow quake struck at a depth of six miles (10 km) (20 km deep according to Japan’s Meteorological Agency), around 80 miles (125 km) off the eastern coast of Japan, and 240 miles (380 km) northeast of Tokyo. Key Concerns: • There are more than 166,000 evacuees. • UN says priority needs remain: fuel, prefabricated housing, clothing and medicine. Request for international assistance Japan has asked for international help to deal with the disaster and has so far received offers of assistance from 134 countries and 33 international organizations. It has accepted relief items from 24 countries to date. According to OCHA, the GoJ says the need for further international assistance is limited and any support should be in accordance with the GoJ’s criteria.

The main contribution of this study is the identification of the structure of deregulated air transport market during the process of liberalisation using qualitative and quantitative techniques and the provision of an analytical approach to explain the constraints for liberalisation. Moreover, this research is considered original because the results of air transport liberalisation in Japan are verified and confirmed by Structural Equation Modelling, demonstrating the importance of each factor which affects the market. The Tokyo domestic routes were investigated as a major market in Japan in order to analyse the effects of liberalisation of air transport. The Tokyo routes market has seven prominent characteristics as follows: (1) high volume of demand, (2) influence of slots, (3) different features of each market category, (4) relatively low load factors, (5) significant market seasonality, (6) competition with high speed rail, and (7) high fares in the market.

This study examines the effects of meteorological factors in Japan on the occurrence of scrub typhus, a mite-borne zoonosis caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi. Using negative binomial regression, we analysed the relationships between meteorological factors (including temperature, rainfall, snowfall) and spring–early summer cases of scrub typhus in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan, during 1984–2014. The average temperature in July and August of the previous year, cumulative rainfall in September of the previous year, snowfall throughout the winter, and maximum depth of snow cover in January and February were positively correlated with the number of scrub typhus cases. By contrast, cumulative rainfall in July of the previous year showed a negative relationship to the number of cases. These associations can be explained by the life-cycle of Leptotrombidium pallidum, a predominant vector of spring–early summer cases of scrub typhus in northern Japan.
