GENERAL NOTE: By virtue of section 2(4) of the Church Act 1992 all references to “the Commissioners” (i.e. the Church Commissioners of the Isle of Man established by the Church Act 1880 (except so far as they relate to the excepted functions) shall, unless the context otherwise requires, be construed as references to the Sodor and Man Diocesan Board of Finance. 1 Short title This Act may be cited as “The Church Act, 1948”, and this Act and the Church Acts, 1880 to 1938, may be together cited as “The Church Acts, 1880 to 1948”, and shall be construed as one. 2 and 3 [Repealed]1 4 Rights, powers and privileges of the Bishop preserved Nothing in this Act shall prejudice or affect or detract from or in any way interfere with the rights, powers and privileges of the Bishop. 5 and 6 [Repealed]2 7 Power of incumbents and churchwardens relating to property, etc (1) In addition to the purposes for which the Incumbent and Churchwardens of any parish or parochial district are by law permitted to hold land, the Church Commissioners may, from time to time, by Order, permit the Incumbent and Churchwardens of any particular parish or parochial district to purchase or otherwise acquire and to hold any land or lands for any purpose or purposes which may be specified in the Order; c AT 3 of 1948 Page 5 Section 8 The Church Act 1948 (2) In addition to the purposes for which the Incumbent of any parish or parochial district is by law permitted to hold land, the Church Commissioners may, from time to time, by Order, permit the Incumbent of any particular parish or parochial district to purchase or otherwise acquire and to hold any land or lands for any purpose or purposes which may be specified in the Order. Government Reiltys ElIan Vannin The Council of Ministers Annual Report Isle of Man Government Preservation of War Memorials Committee .Duty 2017 The Isle of Man Government Preservation of War Piemorials Committee Foreword by the Hon Howard Quayle MHK, Chief Minister To: The Hon Stephen Rodan MLC, President of Tynwald and the Honourable Council and Keys in Tynwald assembled. In November 2007 Tynwald resolved that the Council of Ministers consider the establishment of a suitable body for the preservation of War Memorials in the Isle of Man. Subsequently in October 2008, following a report by a Working Group established by Council of Ministers to consider the matter, Tynwald gave approval to the formation of the Isle of Man Government Preservation of War Memorials Committee. I am pleased to lay the Annual Report before Tynwald from the Chair of the Committee. I would like to formally thank the members of the Committee for their interest and dedication shown in the preservation of Manx War Memorials and to especially acknowledge the outstanding voluntary contribution made by all the membership. Oil and nuclear energy can only bridge the gap between the coal we have and the power we need. The bulk of this energy must, for many generations, come from coal. To meet the increasing demands for coal, vast schemes of recon- struction and expansion are being undertaken by the coal-mining industry, for which there must be an adequate supply of suitably qualified and well-trained men. University Scholarships.—The National Coal Board offer a hundred University Scholarships a year ; most are in Mining Engineering, and some are available in -Mechanical, Electrical and Chemical Engineering and in Fuel Technology. They are worth about the same as State Scholarships but there is no parental means test. School Leavers.—There are also good opportunities for advance- ment for boys with initiative who come straight into the industry from school. You can attend part-time courses (for example. National Certificate courses) at technical colleges for which you are given day release from work with pay. Management Training.—When you are qualified—either through the University or through technical college while working—you are eligible for a two or three-year course under the Board's Management Training Scheme. Each trainee has a course mapped out for him personally, with a senior engineer to give him individual supervision. Scientific Careers.—If you are interested in a Scientific Career, there is absorbing and rewarding work at the Board's Research establishments, in the coalfields on operational work.

    Road Traffic Regulation (Weight Restriction) Order 2020 Article 1 Statutory Document No. 2020/0126 c Road Traffic Regulation Act 1985 ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION (WEIGHT RESTRICTION) ORDER 2020 Made: 27 March 2020 Coming into Operation: 8 April 2020 The Department of Infrastructure, after complying with the requirements of paragraph 1 of Schedule 21 makes the following Order under section 1 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1985. 1 Title This Order is the Road Traffic Regulation (Weight Restriction) Order 2020. 2 Commencement This Order comes into operation on 8 April 2020. 3 Interpretation In this Order – “Department” means the Department of Infrastructure; “emergency services’ vehicle” means — (a) an ambulance, fire brigade vehicle or police vehicle during such time as the vehicle is in actual use for any emergency purpose; (b) a motor vehicle or trailer during such time as it is in actual use by any coastguard service provided by the Department for the purposes of giving aid to persons in danger or vessels in distress on or near the coast; or (c) a motor vehicle or trailer during such time as it is in actual use for civil defence or bomb disposal purposes; and “motor vehicle” has the meaning given by section 65 of the Road Traffic Act 1985. 1 As required by section 4A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1985. c SD No.2020/0126 Page 1 Article 4 Road Traffic Regulation (Weight Restriction) Order 2020 4 Weight restriction A person must not cause or permit a motor vehicle to proceed on a road specified in the Schedule if the weight of the vehicle, whether laden or unladen, exceeds 3.5 tonnes.
