Indian entertainment and media outlook 2010 2 Indian entertainment and media outlook 2010 Message To our clients and friends both in and beyond the entertainment and media industry : Welcome to the 2010 edition of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Indian Entertainment and Media (E&M) Outlook, covering the forecast period of 2010–2014. Our forecasts and analysis for this edition focus on eight major E&M industry segments and one emerging segment. Each segment details out the key trends observed and challenges faced apart from providing the prospects for the segment. In the industry overview section, we have highlighted the key theme observed during 2009 and what we perceive as future trends in the coming years. We have a chapter on the tax and regulatory impact on the various E&M segments and for the very first time we have included a chapter on how technology can be leveraged in the E&M industry. In 2009, the economy severely impacted the world, translating into steep declines in advertisement as well as consumer spending. India though impacted, did manage to show growth with increased consumer spending as well as innovative action on the part of the industry. Against this backdrop, across the world, except certain markets, speed of digital spending increased due to changing consumer behavior as well as technology available to deliver the same. In India, while the spend on digital media is likely to grow, it is unlikely that it will dominate in the forecast period. This is largely due to the relative unavailability as well as unaffordability of the broadband and mobile infrastructure.

(Picture used for representational purpose) Though the State Wildlife Board has rejected the proposal for the line that passes through Karwar, Yellapur and Dharwad forest divisions, the government has now appealed to the National Board for Wildlife (NBW), which will hear the matter shortly. Environmentalists have also approached NBW, pointing out that a major part of the line alignment passes through Uttara Kannada district, which has the highest forest cover in the state. “The area through which the proposed railway alignment passes is one of the habitats for species like tiger, great Indian hornbill, king cobra and Asiatic elephant. The Biodiversity Impact Assessment Report stated that the project will have negative impacts like changes in land cover, loss of trees and habitat of wild animals, risks due to landslides, mudslides, smuggling of timber and forest goods, contamGinoavt iroenvi voefs land and water Heatvce, ”a ns acidre Gofiridhar KulkarnFi,i rast wcrimldinliaf le c aascetivist.

  • Women Journalists in Hindi Films: Stereotyping the Stereotypes | Saswat.Com | All That's
Women Journalists in Hindi Films: Stereotyping the stereotypes | Saswat.com | All That's ... Page 1 of 5 Saswat.com All That's Left Blog :: Saswat Pattanayak Home Articles Links Poetry FAQ About Index Women Journalists in Hindi Films: Stereotyping the stereotypes Subscribe to Saswat Blog By Saswat Pattanayak Literature Review: Not just the films themselves, the writings on the portrayal of women in popular Hindi films have too, long been dictated by assigning extremes—the woman’s prerogatives to belong to a side, of the evil or the virtuous, the vamp or the Madonna. Most authorship have evolved with historical representation of women in Bollywood to lead a discourse on the idealized women figures. Virdi (2003) justifies most studies as the “necessary first step” for providing a rich and abundant characterization of the idealized women figures: passive, victimized, sacrificial, submissive, glorified, static, one-dimensional, and resilient. And then, in her own work, she goes no further than the “first step”, by limiting to content-analysis of three films to study the women representation. Hindi cinema has been a major point of reference for Indian culture in this century. It has shaped and expressed the changing scenarios of modern India to an extent that no preceding art form could ever achieve. And yet, the diversity in roles that women play is not aptly brought to examination either by the post colonial discoursers or the film studies intelligentsia. Gopalan (2000) leads discussion on the avenging women in Indian cinema. She argues that discussions of violence have to consider how films replete with avenging women, gangsters, brutal police force and vigilante closures stage some of the most volatile struggles over representations that shape the public and private fantasies of national, communal, regional and sexual identities.
