Creating Unity in Community: How PVD performers create connection in virtual space and what they’ll take with them into physical space When I sat down (virtually), with three Rhode Island musicians, I had no idea their takeaways from navigating pandemic life would overlap as much as they did. For all three, Dylan Block-Harley, Chachi Carvalho and Roz Raskin, what’s most important is creating art and community in Rhode Island and beyond. This three-article series explores how having to pivot to engage with virtual programming has impacted and inspired them. The first interview in this series is with Dylan Block-Harley (MisSter Dylan), a dedicated creator and long-time Providence musician who comes from a family of performers and storytellers. When I asked him about performing in virtual spaces, he talked about a show he did with his dad Bill Harley (hands down his number one influence) and his brother Noah Block-Harley (of the Horse-eyed Men), which was livestreamed from the Columbus Theatre. Mayté Antelo-Ovando: What has the experience of performing virtually been like? Dylan Block-Harley: From talking to [my dad] it seems like the big challenge is changing your mindset from performing to an audience that’s a living creature — in the room with you, [to being] online, [where] that is removed. I think it can feel like a vacuum. The job is to switch the mentality to more of a TV sort of mindset. That’s what my dad said, “The person you’re performing to is right there.” So it’s this direct like, “Hi! How are you? You know, how are YOU doing?” Which, if you think about it, is actually a really powerful, totally different opportunity and way to connect with people. -

Entre ellos se encuentra la representación de la figura del gitano como modelo de actuación para unas generaciones de oyentes a quienes les preocupaba el aspecto cultural a la contra, así como los modelos de vida alternativos a los legitimados por la clase media de la época. El objetivo de este estudio es analizar el componente romantizado que se presenta en la obra de Morrison alrededor de su representación del gitanismo, así como observar cómo esos elementos generan primero una función deontologizante y después una resignificación de los espacios en tránsito ocupados por la(s) imaginación(es) de esta comunidad como pueblo nómada. Para llevar a cabo el análisis se atenderá a varias canciones de la primera época del autor norirlandés, y se explicarán las funciones de representación del gitano en el entorno del espacio y de una epistemología contracultural. One of the many misconception about country music is that its audience is strictly southern and rural; my northern urban working class family listened exclusively to country music. As a teenager I was was more interested in Motown than Nashville, but by the time I reached my early thirties I had became a serious country music fan. -

Πέρασαν µέρες χωρίς να σε δω κι αν σε πεθύµησα δεν ξέρεις, κοντά µου πάντα θα υποφέρεις, σου το χα πει ένα πρωί βροχερό Θα σβήσω το φως κι όσα δεν σου χω χαρίσει σ’ ένα χάδι θα σου τα δώσω, κι ύστερα πάλι θα σε προδώσω µες του µυαλού µου το µαύρο Βυθό. Θα κλάψεις ξανά αφού µόνη θα µείνεις, κι εγώ ποιο µόνος κι από µένα, µες σε δωµάτια κλεισµένα το πρόσωπό σου θα ονειρευτώ, γιατί είµαι στ’ όνειρο µόνος µου. 2 3 Όνειρο Ήτανε ∆ηµήτρης 2001 3 4 Εισαγωγή Όλοι µας κάθε νύχτα βλέπουµε αµέτρητα όνειρα µε διάφορα περιεχόµενα. Άλλες φορές όµορφα, άλλες φορές άσχηµα, χαρούµενα, έντονα, θλιβερά, βαρετά, αγχωτικά. Έχει κανείς αναρωτηθεί τι είναι το όνειρο; Βιάστηκαν οι επιστήµονες να το εξηγήσουν. Υποθέτω θα το όριζαν σαν µια αναδροµή στο ασυνείδητο ή στο υποσυνείδητο. Να µε συγχωρέσουν αλλά έχω αντίθετη άποψη! Εγώ θα σας πω ότι το όνειρο ή µάλλον ο κόσµος των ονείρων, είναι κάτι το πραγµατικό. Ναι! Κάτι το πραγµατικό. Είναι ένας Κόσµος στον οποίον µεταφερόµαστε µε τον ύπνο... σαν να ταξιδεύει η ψυχή µας και να µπαίνει σε ένα άλλο υλικό σώµα, σε κάποια άλλη διάσταση. Ένας κόσµος στον οποίο δεν ισχύουν οι νόµοι, οι φυσικοί νόµοι που ισχύουν σε αυτόν που ζούµε όταν είµαστε ξύπνιοι! ∆εν χρειάζεται να έχεις φτερά για να πετάξεις, ούτε χρειάζεται να πονάς όταν χτυπάς. Έτσι λοιπόν η ψυχή ακούραστη πηγαίνει από το ένα σώµα στο άλλο, από την µία διάσταση στην άλλη, από κάποιους νόµους σε κάποιους άλλους.
