Chapter 4 Logistics-related Facilities and Operation: Land Transport THE STUDY ON MULTIMODAL TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS SYSTEM OF THE EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN REGION AND MASTER PLAN FINAL REPORT Chapter 4 Logistics-related Facilities and Operation: Land Transport 4.1 Introduction This chapter explores the current conditions of land transportation modes and facilities. Transport modes including roads, railways, and inland waterways in Egypt are assessed, focusing on their roles in the logistics system. Inland transport facilities including dry ports (facilities adopted primarily to decongest sea ports from containers) and to less extent, border crossing ports, are also investigated based on the data available. In order to enhance the logistics system, the role of private stakeholders and the main governmental organizations whose functions have impact on logistics are considered. Finally, the bottlenecks are identified and countermeasures are recommended to realize an efficient logistics system. 4.1.1 Current Trend of Different Transport Modes Sharing The trends and developments shaping the freight transport industry have great impact on the assigned freight volumes carried on the different inland transport modes. A trend that can be commonly observed in several countries around the world is the continuous increase in the share of road freight transport rather than other modes. Ezzeldin1, Osami S. Rageh2, Mahmoud E. Saad3 @ ABSTRACT: Deep navigation channels have a great impact on adjacent beaches and crucial economic effects because of periodic dredging operations. The navigation channel of the Damietta harbour is considered a clear example of the sedimentation problem and deeply affects the Northeastern shoreline of the Nile Delta in Egypt. The aim of the present study is to monitor shoreline using remote sensing techniques to evaluate the effect of Damietta harbour and its navigation channel on the shoreline for the last 45 years. Also, the selected period was divided into two periods to illustrate the effect of man-made interventions on the shoreline. Shorelines were extracted from satellite images and then the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) was used to estimate accurate rates of shoreline changes and predict future shorelines evolution of 2030, 2040, 2050 and 2060. The Damietta harbour created an accretion area in the western side with an average rate of 2.13 m year-1. On the contrary, the shoreline in the eastern side of the harbour retreated by 92 m on average over the last 45 years. So, it is considered one of the main hazard areas along the Northeastern shoreline of the Nile Delta that needs a sustainable solution. Moreover, a detached breakwaters system is predicted to provide shore stabilization at the eastern side as the implemented one at Ras El-Bar beach. -

History of the Royal Marines 1837-1914 HE Blumberg (Minor editing by Alastair Donald) In preparing this Record I have consulted, wherever possible, the original reports, Battalion War and other Diaries, accounts in Globe and Laurel, etc. The War Office Official Accounts, where extant, the London Gazettes, and Orders in Council have been taken as the basis of events recounted, and I have made free use of the standard histories, eg History of the British Army (Fortescue), History of the Navy (Laird Clowes), Britain's Sea Soldiers (Field), etc. Also the Lives of Admirals and Generals bearing on the campaigns. The authorities consulted have been quoted for each campaign, in order that those desirous of making a fuller study can do so. I have made no pretence of writing a history or making comments, but I have tried to place on record all facts which can show the development of the Corps through the Nineteenth and early part of the Twentieth Centuries. The numbers voted were 9007, but the RM Artillery had officially ceased to exist - a School of Laboratory and nominally two companies quartered at Fort Cumberland as part of the Portsmouth Division only being maintained. The Portsmouth Division were still in the old inadequate Clarence Barracks in the High Street; Plymouth and Chatham were in their present barracks, which had not then been enlarged to their present size, and Woolwich were in the western part of the Royal Artillery Barracks. -

(CE:1968a-1975b) PILGRIMAGES. There are more than sixty centers of Coptic pilgrimage in Egypt, of which the main ones are those of the Virgin Mary at Musturud, Saint Menas at Maryut, Saint George (Mar Jirjis) of Mit Damsis, Sitt Dimyanah near Bilqas, and Anba Shinudah at Dayr al-Abyad, near Suhaj. For the Copts, pilgrimage is a religious act of public worship of high spiritual and social value, consisting of an act of veneration offered directly to God and his saints, or to God through his saints. In contrast to abstinence, fasting, and almsgiving, which are simple acts of corporal asceticism or charity, pilgrimage is a complex event. It implies, in effect, bodily fatigue, asceticism, and often a vow, with an offering being made and the poor receiving their share of alms. In short, pilgrimage is a religious act, perfect and complete, and if made with pure and righteous intent, it is a means of sanctification and glorification of God and his saints. While the private and public usefulness and the sanctity of pilgrimage are evident, yet at all times and in all countries, it has been abused. Such abuses have been denounced by responsible spiritual people, like the monk SHENUTE, who, in the fifth century, accused the pilgrimages of being commercial fairs and sites of fun and leisure. The Length and Dates of the Pilgrimages Most pilgrimages last seven days, unless they coincide with a liturgical season, such as the feast of Ascension or the Fast of the Virgin. The last day of the pilgrimage, that of the saint's feastday, is particularly celebrated.
