Frankie Avalon, Fabian and Bobby Rydell performing together as the Golden Boys have packed venues throughout the country since 1985, and has been called “one of the most exciting shows in show business.” The show unites three exciting performers who emerged from the same South Philadelphia neighborhood, at the same time, and went on to become world renowned personalities featuring three the most popular teen idols of the late fifties and early sixties, the Golden Boys have proved to be an overwhelming live concert success. Countless television appearances, a special performance for the President of United States and a Golden Boys PBS special have brought in a vast audience of fans, and not only from the “ Bandstand” generation, but all generations. Frankie Avalon went from 50’s teen idol to a national and international star. His first song “De De Dinah” became a smash hit and his recording of “Venus” was one of the biggest selling hits of the era. His follow-up hits include “Bobbysocks to Stockings,” “Just As Your Heart,” and “A Boy Without a Girl.” With a series of performances on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand, Fabian became one of the top teen idols of the late 1950’s. Fabian enjoyed great success with the hits “Turn Me Loose,” “Hound Dog Man,” and the million-selling “Tiger” single. Another American Bandstand alum was Bobby Rydell, who had million selling singles with “Volare,” “Wild One,” and “We Got Love,” and additional success with “Swingin’ School,” “Kissin’ Time,” and “Forget Him.” This show is sure to bring back many a teenage memory!     View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by E-space: Manchester Metropolitan University's Research Repository Issues of Gender in Muscle Beach Party (1964) Joan Ormrod, Manchester Metropolitan University, UK Muscle Beach Party (1964) is the second in a series of seven films made by American International Pictures (AIP) based around a similar set of characters and set (by and large) on the beach. The Beach Party series, as it came to be known, rode on a wave of surfing fever amongst teenagers in the early 1960s. The films depicted the carefree and affluent lifestyle of a group of middle class, white Californian teenagers on vacation and are described by Granat as, "…California's beautiful people in a setting that attracted moviegoers. The films did not 'hold a mirror up to nature', yet they mirrored the glorification of California taking place in American culture." (Granat, 1999:191) The films were critically condemned. The New York Times critic, for instance, noted, "…almost the entire cast emerges as the dullest bunch of meatballs ever, with the old folks even sillier than the kids..." (McGee, 1984: 150) Despite their dismissal as mere froth, the Beach Party series may enable an identification of issues of concern in the wider American society of the early sixties. The Beach Party films are sequential, beginning with Beach Party (1963) advertised as a "musical comedy of summer, surfing and romance" (Beach Party Press Pack). Beach Party was so successful that AIP wasted no time in producing six further films; Muscle Beach Party (1964), Pajama Party (1964) Bikini Beach (1964), Beach Blanket Bingo (1965) How to Stuff a Wild Bikini (1965) and The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini (1966).

    Stockholm and Eurovison Song Contest Two Eurovision entries in 2015 were written during Stockholm Songwriting Camp Macedonia’s ”Autumn Leave’s” was composed and written by Joacim Persson. Azerbaijan’s ”Hour of the Wolf” was written by Nicolas Rebscher, Nicklas Lif and Lina Hansson during the first ever Stockholm Songwriting Camp at Pop House hotel in Stockholm, january 2015. In addition several pop songs met the public ears during the year, including Conchita Wurst’s ”Firestorm” written and produced by Joacim Persson, Sebastian Arman and Aleena Gibson (who was an additional writer not at the camp), and the song ‘Step to my beat’ which the ‘pop dynamo’ Ronika co-wrote at the camp with Nicolas Rebscher. It was also featured in The Guardians pop playlist. Stockholm Songwriting Camp is an initiative that brings together writers and producers from around the world. It is a hub that values the creativity of others and wants to provide a neutral platform for embracing creativity across the songwriting world. What makes the concept different from a lot of camps is the fact that the organizers do not claim any publishing rights, all property is the writers – it is simply the meeting place. The concept was founded by Niclas Molinder owner of Auddly, based in Stockholm.
