Lou Christie & Bobby Rydell FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Alison Trovato 630.962.7000 | [email protected] April 2, 2018 1960s Teen Idols Bobby Rydell & Lou Christie Come to the Arcada St. Charles, IL: The Arcada Theatre is excited to welcome former teen icons and beloved entertainers Bobby Rydell and Lou Christie on Sunday, April 15 at 3pm. The co-bill brings two of the sixties most influential singers to the Historic stage, sharing classic songs such as "Wild One" and "Volare" as well as "The Gypsy Cried" and "Lightnin' Strikes." The evening will be an intimate, family-friendly rock 'n roll experience to remember. Bobby Rydell was first discovered in the late '50s as a teenage drummer sitting in on fellow-heartthrob Frankie Avalon's local band, Rocco and the Saints. At age 19 he was the youngest person to headline the famous Copacabana in New York and in 1963 starred alongside Ann-Margret in the iconic movie, "Bye Bye Birdie." The producers of Grease even named the high school "Rydell High" to pay tribute to Bobby's musical influence! Lou Christie's distinct falsetto and songwriting collaboration with the classically trained musician Twyla Herbert, thirty years his senior, has influenced artists including Elton John, Madonna, John Lennon and The Rolling Stones. His chart-topping hit "Rhapsody In The Rain" was the first song to be banned on the radio due to it's suggestive lyrics, with other highlights including his appearances on "Dick Clark's Caravan Of Stars," sharing 72 consecutive one-nighters with Diana Ross and the Supremes, and a command performance for Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Family. Tickets for the 3:00pm show are $49, $59, $69, $79 or $89 and are available at oshows.com or by calling 630-962-7000. The Historic Arcada Theatre is a 900-seat Vaudeville-era theatre that hosts over 300 live concerts annually. Interview opportunities with Bobby Rydell and Lou Christie are available. • Bye Bye Birdie"
MEDIA CONTACT Natalie Kojen [email protected] April 6, 2011 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ACADEMY TO PREMIERE NEW RESTORATION OF 1963 MUSICAL COMEDY "BYE BYE BIRDIE" BEVERLY HillS, CA - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will premiere a new digital restoration of "Bye Bye Birdie" on Wednesday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Hosted by film critic Stephen Farber, the evening will feature a Digital Cinema presentation with a newly restored 4- channel stereo soundtrack, followed by an onstage discussion with special guests Ann Margret and Bobby Rydell. Just five years after Elvis Presley was drafted into the army, the satirical "Bye Bye Birdie" had already been written, staged on Broadway, and turned into a film . When singing sensation Conrad Birdie (Jesse Pearson) is drafted, songwriter Albert Peterson (Dick Van Dyke) and his girlfriend, Rosie Deleon (Janet leigh), arrange for Birdie to sing one of Peterson's songs in a farewell performance on "The Ed Sullivan Show." To heighten the drama, the rock 'n' roll star is to give a goodbye kiss to a lucky young lady (Ann-Margret) from a small Ohio town - much to the dismay of her steady beau (Rydell) and parents (Paul Lynde and Mary LaRoche). Directed by George Sidney, this vibrant adaptation of the successful Broadway musical comedy earned Oscar" nominations for both Music and Sound, and features a range of songs, from the youthful "A lot of Livin' to Do" to the parentally angled "Kids. " For updates on special guests, visit www.oscars.org.
