Sunday, January 6th our Sunday school students assembled 25 care packages for our military personnel overseas. To be included in each box, they also decorated Thank You cards, each decorating 2 cards using their own personal style and message. Over 17 items were included in each box including personal care items, a devotional book for the Armed Forces and a lot of yummy snack items.

Chaplains Patrick Flynn and David Schleusener will be receiving the care packages and distributing them to our military personnel. This is a part of the LCMS Ministry to the Armed Forces. Chaplain Flynn (former pastor at St. Peter’s, Hand-made thank you cards Davenport) has already received his group’s packages. He reported they were a huge HIT. Sailors and officers alike DLS Kindergarten loved the snacks and our expression of care morale quite a bit. Who likes the snow almost as much as God's Penguins that we're learning about? Hello from the 1st and 2nd grade classroom! It has been a pretty hard couple of weeks with so many of us being sick. I truly hope this flu virus comes to an end very soon! We have still found the time, though, to learn some new concepts while we were all present. In Social Studies, we are learning about communities and the resources we have in our community. Also, both the 1st and 2nd grade classes have started adding 2-digit numbers. The 2nd graders, though, have taken it to a new level by regrouping. This can be tough stuff! This past fall, Mrs. Werner was able to get a grant for our classroom to get new books for our classroom library. That was such a blessing! The books have just arrived and we have really enjoyed reading the books. Thank you so much, Mrs. Werner! I hope you all are staying healthy and strong as we start another new month!
