MARATHI BHASHA DIN CELEBRATION Department of COMPUTER engineering Dr. D Y Patil School of Engineering & Technology, Charholi, Lohegaon Pune FACULTY MEMBERS & STUDENTS OF ALL DEPARTMENTS (On 29th of February, 2016) Place of Visit:- Seminar Hall(309) DETAILS OF THE PROGRAM Marathi Language Day (Marathi Din, Marathi Diwas : मराठी दिन, मराठी दिवस) is celebrated on February 27 every year across the Indian state of Maharashtra & Goa. This day is regulated by the State Government. It is celebrated on Birthday of eminent Marathi Poet V. V. Shirwadkar. The program was organized for students and all teaching and non-teaching faculty of all departments with intent to remind them the importance of our state language and its history. The student coordinator Mr. Sagar Patil (student, T.E. Computer) hosted the program with a wonderful presentation. Mr. Pankaj Bondre (student, B.E. Computer) took the event ahead with a famous Poem ‘KANA’ in the remembrance of great Poet V. V. Shirwadkar. Ms. Arti Mohanpurkar, Head, Department of Computer Engineering addressed the audience with her inspiring Marathi articles written by her. Dr. Anup Vibhute, Dean Academics, DYPSOET made youth realize the flexibility and versatility of Marathi Language. The program coordinator Ms. Arti Waghmare gave a poetic touch to her address to maintain the decency of language with pure words. Ms. Sadhana Gawade from the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering shared excellent quotes to brief importance of the day and its cause of celebration. Mr. Viresh Chapte Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Engineering presented a lovely song in his melodious voice and graced the occasion. 14. Formation of State of Maharashtra After India gained independence, there was demand on large scale for the reconstruction of states on linguistic basis. In Maharashtra also the demand for state of Marathi speaking people led to ‘Samyukta Maharashtra Movement’ from 1946 onwards. Through various changing circumstances the movement progressed and finally on 1 May 1960 the state of Maharashtra came to be formed. Background : From the beginning of 20th century, many scholars had begun to express the thoughts on unification of Marathi speaking people. In 1911, the British Government had to suspend the partition of Bengal. On this background, N.C.Kelkar wrote that ‘the entire Marathi speaking poulation should be under one dominion’. In 1915, Lokmanya Tilak had demanded the reconstruction of a state based on language. But during that period the issue of independence of India was more important, hence this issue remained aside. On 12 May 1946, in the Sahitya Sammelan at Belgaon, an important resolution regarding Samyukta Maharashtra was passed. Samyukta Maharashtra Parishad : On 28 July, ‘Maharashtra Ekikaran Parishad’ was called at Mumbai. Shankarrao Dev was its president. It passed a resolution that all Marathi speaking regions should be included in one state. This should also include Marathi speaking regions of Mumbai, Central provinces as well as Marathwada and Gomantak. Dar Commission : On 17 June 1947, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the President of Constituent Assembly established the ‘Dar Commission’ under the chairmanship of Justice S.K.Dar, for forming linguistic provinces. On 10 December 1948, the report of Dar Commission was published but the issue remained unsolved.

Today, it functions as a Constituent College of this University. It is situated in the Pune campus of SNDT Women's University at Karve Road, Pune. The vision of the great social reformer, Bharatratna Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve, was translated into reality by the foundation of this College. With this College, he founded Indian Women's University. With generous support from Sir Vitthaldas Thackersey, an industrialist with social orientation, this University was named as Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey (SNDT) Women’s University, in the year 1920. The head office of the University was shifted to Mumbai in 1936. In the year 1951, the University acquired statutory recognition from the Government of Maharashtra along with the rare privilege of jurisdiction across the country.

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) was established by the visionary scientist Dr. Homi J. Bhabha in 1945, and is one of the premier research institutions in India.
