NOTRE DAME BASEBALL NCAA GAMEDAY NOTES - vs. Cal State Fullerton (May 31, 2003) Notre Dame heads into today’s NCAA winner’s bracket game vs. host Cal State Fullerton (the No. 7 national seed) looking for another strong outing from second team All-American (Collegiate Baseball) and 2003 BIG EAST Conference pitcher of the year Chris Niesel, (first outing in 15 days, did not pitch at BIG EAST Tournament due to a form of tendonitis in his throwing hand) … CSF is expected to counter with freshman LHP Ryan Schreppel (1.90 ERA, 5-2, 42.2 IP, 34 Ks, 13 BB, .203 opp. batting) … Niesel joins Nick Palihnich (’60) and Aaron Heilman (’98-’01) as the only ND pitchers ever to earn All-America (eight ND position players have done so) … Niesel’s BIG EAST dominance included a 7-0 record and 2.58 ERA in eight league starts, plus .247 opponent batting and an 8-to-1 K-to-walk ratio (49/6) in BIG EAST games … he joined WVU’s Zac Cline (9-2) as the only pitchers to post seven league wins while BC's Kevin Shephard and Chris Lambert (both 2.36) were the only full-time starters with better ERA’s in conference play ... BASEBALL FACTORY SPRING TRAINING IN ARIZONA Gene Autry Sports Complex January 15 – 18, 2016 STAFF BIOS Bart & Natasha Anderson: Certified Athletic Trainer. Adam Auer: Speed and agility trainer – Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Ryan Barba: Ryan played at the University of New Mexico before going on to play professionally in the Atlanta Braves and Milwaukee Brewers organizations. When his playing career concluded he coached at his Alma Mater UNM and he is currently a hitting coach in the Los Angeles Angels organization. Brian Betancourth: Brian currently serves as a hitting coach in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organization. Prior to that, he was in the Colorado Rockies organization. He spent this past summer with their affiliate in Modesto. He played his college baseball at Mount San Jacinto Junior College in Southern California. After his collegiate career, Brian went on to play for the Long Beach Armada in the Golden Baseball League, an independent professional league on the West Coast. Andre David: Andre is currently the Assistant Major League Hitting Coach for the Kansas City Royals, previously the Minor League Hitting Coordinator. He played his college ball at Cal State Fullerton and was drafted by the Minnesota Twins where he played in the Major Leagues for 2 seasons. Dean Espy: Dean played his college baseball at South Mountain Community College and UCLA. While at SMCC, he carried a .331 batting average with 12 home runs. At UCLA he was primarily the team’s 1B and designated hitter. He was drafted in the 15th round in the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft by the Kansas City Royals. -

Chad has been a Baseball Factory Regional Scout since 2009. He is currently the Athletic Director at Capo Valley High School in Southern California.
