Auto Bailout. Jobs Destroyed. Showroom Protests. Enough AUTO BAILOUT. JOBS DESTROYED. Frederick A. Henderson President and CEO, General Motors SHOWROOM PROTESTS. Detroit, MI ENOUGH. Dear Mr. Henderson, This is killing us. We are in the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. No segment of the economy has been hit harder than America’s new car and truck industry. And now we learn that carhaul operations are being transferred to nonunion firms, causing the Teamsters to respond by handbilling at our businesses. With protestors at our showroom doors, we are taking a PR hit because you substitute cut rate drivers for the professional car haul drivers who have historically delivered our vehicles. Many of these replacement drivers come with little experience, inadequate training, no accountability, and inadequate equipment. Some of them are hauling new cars with flat bed trucks or other equipment that is not designed to protect new cars over long distances. Dealers selling American cars already have the most to worry about in our industry during these difficult times. By large numbers, American consumers opposed the bailout of GM and Chrysler, which was touted as a job-saving necessity. This latest gambit may finally do us in. We urge you to reconsider. By protecting long-term car haul employees, you protect your brand and you protect us, your network of dealerships. An Open Letter from America’s GM Dealers Bob Graceo, General Sales Manager Jack Koczka, Sales Manager Michael C. GM Holden did not prepare for peak oil – since 1998 Part 1: The Howard years Summary Peak oil, which should be seen as a process having started in 2005 rather than an event in the year of maximum global production, hits the weakest first, those with a pre-condition of other problems. This post will show how ignoring early peak oil warnings by Irish oil geologist Colin Campbell led to mis-investments in the Australian car industry. After Mitsubishi and Ford it's now GM Holden which is closing its factory in Australia. Statistics of the Department of Industry show that sales of large cars in Australia peaked way back in 2003, the year of the Iraq war which was designed to use Iraqi's oil to push the global peak a couple of years into the future. Only months before the invasion then Prime Minister Howard joined the collation of the peaking he announced a13 year long assistance package for the Australian car industry – without introducing mandatory fuel efficiency standards for car fleets. Holden's demise was sealed in 2009 at the height of the financial crisis which was triggered by high oil prices. In that year the US government forced GM – as a condition of its bail-out - to dump the Pontiac brand, for which Holden's VE Commodore SS was planned to play a major role. Local production of the Cruze came too late. So we have peak oil ignorance being punished all the way to the very end – without any chance for a transition to e.g.

Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History 1908 General Motors is formed William Durant combined Buick, Olds, Cadillac, Elmore and Oakland to create what is now General Motors Incorporated. Durant offered different brands in order to target a broad market of incomes and preferences. In 1904, he invested in the Buick brand and used the 1 profits to buy out future automobile companies. Durant purchased Olds Motor Works, the first automobile company in Michigan and then Cadillac from Henry Leland, who previously reorganized the Henry Ford Company when Henry Ford resigned. Cadillac produced automobiles similar to Henry Ford’s Model A using methods of mass production Ford left behind. By 1910, Durant was forced to step down as management of General Motors. In 1914, he was able to buy back a 2 controlling interest in General Motors due to profits generated from the Chevrolet brand. 3 1 William Durant founded General Motors. Walter P.
