Positioned between the Delta’s shores and grass-filled plains, Sandibe sits adjacent to the Moremi Game Reserve—the Okavango Delta’s only formally protected wildlife reserve. It’s known as Botswana’s most diverse habitat, showcasing permanent lagoons, seasonal floodplains, drier savannas, woodlands and acacia forests.

The dense riverine forest attracts large predators. , and a healthy resident lion population stay year round. As do African wild dogs— Africa’s most endangered large carnivore.

Sandibe’s water access provides for many activities in addition to game viewing. Wind through the Delta inlets by mokoro—a traditional wood boat uniquely designed for the low water of the lagoons and watch for some Okavango-specific animals like the tsessebe antelope and aquatic sitatunga.

One such program is AGLOW-Pokolong which assists Maun’s disadvantaged elderly who no longer have family to care for them. AGLOW provides food and care, makes home visits and spends time with them. home to high densities of wildlife. Both a profusion of Conservation Plains Camp/Great Plains ©Beverly Joubert/Duba plains game and predators call it home. Large herds of buffalo like to graze on the tall grasses.

Although they are herbivores, buffalo are notoriously tough, with large horns and a tendency to charge when danger is near. Despite this, the local Tsaro lion pride is renowned for hunting buffalo. See some of these lions in action as they stalk their prey with coordinated skill, waiting for the key time to strike in unison when the herds least expect it.
