August 13 PHILADELPHIA EAGLES LINCOLN FINANCIAL FIELD Game Day STAFF NEWSLETTER ye view e Bird’s “We will provide our Guests with the highest quality sports and entertainment experience in a safe, clean and friendly environment.” Issue 3 : Preseason Eagles vs. Patriots 2009: Flight of the eagles By: JP Hayslip Let’s flash back five years ago to August 13, 2004 when the Eagles opened up their season against the New England Patriots, that same season they went on to play the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX. Now come back to reality, it’s August 13, 2009 and the Eagles are opening up their season once again against the New England Patriots. Could history repeat itself? We have a brand new team, same great coach, a stronger desire to win, and ONE goal in mind……… The Philadelphia Eagles will be looking to ride the momentum of their late year push and start out of the gates strong in 2009. They will be doing so with a revamped offensive line that is now one of the most physically imposingin the NFL with an average weight of over 330 pounds per starter. Eagles fans are one of the most hard core fan bases in the NFL, and they are looking for a productive season for the 2009 Philadelphia Eagles. For most fan bases, the sting of their team’s fourth conference championship defeat may have been tolerated by the fact that the 9-6-1 Eagles had made an improbable run to even get as far as they did. After evaluating all of the things that have occurred this offseason it is clear that the Eagles have taken steps forward after losing in the second-most-important game of 2008. But The 2009 Eagles look to build on a now loaded with depth and talent, Jeff Lurie and his exciting playoff run in 2008 that organization feel confident that this is "their year". The included knocking off the defending Eagles already had a great, young defense, and used most Super Bowl Champion New York Giants of their offseason acquiring pieces to the offensive puzzle. If all of the new players and veterans can work well together and adjust to the system, the Eagles will make a hard push through the playoffs. He should have a multitalented set of weapons to work with this season with the drafting of Jeremy Maclin and the return of DeSean Jackson. The team also provided McNabb with better protection, by acquiring two top level offensive tackles. Significant others, family members, new arrivals and old friends all came together to beat the heat and catch a few innings of baseball. The play on the diamond wasn’t spectacular, unless you are a fan of Rick Ankiel of the Cardinals who went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs! However, despite a Phils 7-1 loss, the night was a success. From tailgating in Lot L to packing the stands with game day staffers galore, you couldn’t ask for much more. The 300 level of Citizens Bank Park was having a great time. NO QUESTIONS ASKED, Shane Victorino would have been proud.     PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME TEACHER ACTIVITY GUIDE 2019-2020 EDITIOn PHILADELPHIA EAGLES Team History The Eagles have been a Philadelphia institution since their beginning in 1933 when a syndicate headed by the late Bert Bell and Lud Wray purchased the former Frankford Yellowjackets franchise for $2,500. In 1941, a unique swap took place between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh that saw the clubs trade home cities with Alexis Thompson becoming the Eagles owner. In 1943, the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh franchises combined for one season due to the manpower shortage created by World War II. The team was called both Phil-Pitt and the Steagles. Greasy Neale of the Eagles and Walt Kiesling of the Steelers were co-coaches and the team finished 5-4-1. Counting the 1943 season, Neale coached the Eagles for 10 seasons and he led them to their first significant successes in the NFL. Paced by such future Pro Football Hall of Fame members as running back Steve Van Buren, center-linebacker Alex Wojciechowicz, end Pete Pihos and beginning in 1949, center-linebacker Chuck Bednarik, the Eagles dominated the league for six seasons. They finished second in the NFL Eastern division in 1944, 1945 and 1946, won the division title in 1947 and then scored successive shutout victories in the 1948 and 1949 championship games. A rash of injuries ended Philadelphia’s era of domination and, by 1958, the Eagles had fallen to last place in their division. That year, however, saw the start of a rebuilding program by a new coach, Buck Shaw, and the addition of quarterback Norm Van Brocklin in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams.

So, we'll just keep fighting.” The Patriots are the fourth defending Super Bowl champion to start a season 10-0, joining Green Bay (13-0 in 2011), Denver (13-0 in 1998) and San Francisco (10-0 in 1990). This weekend, New England can clinch its seventh consecutive division title, which would tie the 1973-79 Los Angeles Rams for the longest streak in NFL history. The Patriots, who also won five consecutive division titles from 2003-2007, are the only team in NFL history to win 11 division championships in a 12-year span.
