The latest Samsung Galaxy Portal is a phone that has had many names before its release, known also as the and Galaxy Lite this new Android phone is probably better known by its model number of Samsung i5700.

This latest touch screen handset joins the original Samsung Galaxy i7500 and although was dubbed as a 'lighter' version of the previous model it still retains much of the technology of its bigger brother. Powering this sleek new device is an 800MHz processor which is one of the fastest available in any Android handset, there is also a large 3.2 inch touch screen which makes for easy one touch navigation through the phones menu and features.

This 3.5G data supportive phone also offers a 3.2 mega camera which although is not on a par with the majority of 5.0 mega pixel phones available does keep the price down, also included is WiFi for connections on the move, GPS for route finding and navigation and access to the Android market with thousands of new applications and games for download.

This new Samsung handset was originally released as the Samsung Galaxy Spica last year in its black colour format on T-Mobile pay monthly deals, however now this new phone can be purchased in a cool white finish with green accents on Virgin Mobile deals.

Already available from free at just £22 per month line rental the user also gets completely free internet access every month, considering that this is exactly what the Samsung Portal is intended for this makes for a great value deal. There has been a raft of new Android phones released of late that directly compete with this Samsung model, these include the likes of the Milestone which is more advanced in some areas and also incorporates a slide out keyboard, the LG GW620 which also offers the physical keyboard alongside a 5.0 mega pixel camera and the Sony Ericsson X10 which is set top be the most advanced to date.

Other new non Android phones that compete well include the manufacturers own Samsung Jet and Samsung Omnia 2, the HTC Touch 2, LG Pop, X6 and Nokia 5800.

It is widely expected that the phone will be picked up by further networks very soon and as the T-Mobile exclusive period ends on the original black edition this also will find its way onto further network operators.
