Number PTOS Power tiller operated seeding Q & A question & answer RFL Rangpur Foundry Limited UISC Union Information Service Center UP Union Parishad USAID United States Agency for International Development 4 Introduction As per agreement between the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT) and Agricultural Advisory Society (AAS), CIMMYT has engaged AAS to scale-up and disseminate the video “Scaling up the video Save More, Grow More, Earn More and selected videos under CSISA-MI project to promote the use of the CSISA-MI machineries and irrigation pumps through increasing awareness and motivation on CSISA-MI’s resource-conserving machines such as seeder-fertilizer drills (PTOS), raised bed planters, reapers and surface water low lift irrigation pumps such as the Axial Flow pump in combination with lay flat hose pipe (LFHP) among the farmers through video show and practical machinery demonstration in 11 Feed the Future (FtF) districts (Implemented in 16 districts) within Jessore, Khulna, Faridpur and Barisal CSISA-BD hubs in southern regions of the country. As per provision within the agreement between CIMMYT and AAS, brief description on the progress of the assigned activities is presented in this project final technical report covering the completed project cycle during 26 September 2013-31March 2014 (Initially approved 15 October 2013-15 February 2014 in 11 districts) in 16 districts under 4 CSISA-BD hubs (Jessore hub: Chuadanga, Meherpur & Jessore districts; Khulna hub: Bagerhat, Khulna & Satkhira districts; Faridpur hub: Rajbari, Faridpur & Gopalganj districts and Barisal hub: Barisal, Pirojpur, Jhalokathi, Patuakhali, Borguna, Bhola & Madaripur districts). Project location and logistics Initially, CIMMYT approved to implement the activities of the approved project on “Scaling up the video Save More, Grow More, Earn More and selected videos under CSISA-MI project in 11 districts (Barguna, Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Faridpur, Rajbari, Chuadanga, Meherpur, Bagerhat, Khulna and Satkhira districts). But the approved activities of the project were implemented in 16 FtF districts (Barguna, Barisal, Bhola, Jhalokathi, Madaripur, Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Faridpur, Gopalganj, Rajbari, Chuadanga, Jessore, Meherpur, Bagerhat, Khulna & Satkhira districts) in southern regions based on the suggestion made by CSISA-MI project staff and approval from managers, CIMMYT CSISA-BD of Jessore, Khulna, Faridpur and Barisal hubs. Such approval from CSISA-BD was made during video show cum training venues selection and before finalization of the event schedule in 16 districts under 4 CSISA-BD hubs within 20 USAID FtF districts in southern regions in the country. The 16 project districts within 20 USAID FtF districts are shown in Fig.1. 5 Fig.1: Location Map of 16 project districts in southern regions 6 AAS deployed six staffs (1 Area Coordinator, 3 Field Coordinators, 2 IT Coordinators) and a Central Coordinator (part time) to implement the decided activities of the approved project in 16 southern districts under 4 CSISA-BD hubs. Harun-Ar-Rashid, Executive Director, AAS worked as the Central Coordinator as part time (3 days/month) based in Dhaka. AAS assigned project staff hired two small trucks with minimum rental rate in collaboration with involved local service providers in Chuadanga, Faridpur and Barisal districts. AAS financial staff managed the approved fund expenses for the implementation of the project activities. AAS arranged other relevant logistic supports required for the implementation of approved project activities in 16 districts within 4 CSISA-BD hubs. The project staffs of two video show-cum training teams were provided two sets of video show equipment, machineries/equipment of mechanization & irrigation, large screen with stand, banners with stand, tables etc before administering the video show cum training at the selected locations in 16 districts within 4 CSISA-BD hubs. Project staff training Three staff (1 Area Coordinator and 2 FCs) received 3 days training on the introduction to conservation agriculture (CA) and farm machinery during 6-8 October 2013 at FMP Enginnering Division, BARI, Gazipur under the funding support from CIMMYT Bangladesh. AAS conducted two days training for the involved project staff at AAS training room, AAS, HQ, Lalmatia, Dhaka during 20-21 October 2013 on project implementation planning and guidelines on the implementation of project activities and their target and achievement in 16 districts (initially 11 districts) under 4 CSISA-BD hubs during 26 September 2013 to 15 February 2014. The training for 2 days was conducted by Harun-Ar-Rashid, Executive Director, AAS and Central Coordinator (CC) of video show cum training project of CIMMYT. Administering video Show cum training At the beginning of the video show cum training, project staff collected the list of the video show cum training locations from CSISA-MI staff and Manager, CIMMYT CSISA-BD hubs.
