Equestrian... The Equestrian team opened the 2008-2009 season on Saturday, October 11 at Vermont. The team placed fourth out of eight particpating institutions. The Chargers then tied for Reserve Champion at Middlebury, on October 12.

Men’s Soccer (3-9-0, 3-4-0 TCCC)... The Colby-Sawyer College men’s soccer team went 1-1 last week. The Char- gers fell to #16 Western New England College, 3-0 on Wednesday, October 8 and defeated Salve Regina, 1-0 on Saturday, October 11. Freshman Brian Lombard (Ipswich, Mass.) scored his fi rst collegiate goal, which was the game-winner against Salve Regina. Senior Ryan Oldfi eld (Raymond, N.H.) sent a precise left footed service into the box and found the head of Lombard as he leapt and headed the ball past the keeper. Colby-Sawyer returns to action on Tuesday, October 14 when they will host Gordon at 3:00 p.m.. They will fi nish the week on Saturday, October 18 at Wentworth at 4:00 p.m.

Men’s Tennis (1-1, 0-0 TCCC)... The Colby Sawyer College men’s tennis team fi nished its fall schedule on Satur- day, October 11 with a match against Division II foe, Franklin Pierce. Colby-Sawyer defeated the Ravens 8-1. Women’s Soccer (5-5-2, 4-3-0 TCCC)... The Colby-Sawyer College women’s soccer team went 2-0 last week earn- ing a 3-1 victory over Western New England on Tuesday, October 7 and defeating Salve Regina, 2-0 on Saturday, October 11. Senior Elise Kapp (Yarmouth Port, Mass.) tallied two goals and an assist last week, pushing her team- leading point total to 19. Freshman Abby Wills (Uxbridge, Mass.) had a goal and an assist in the 3-1 win over WNEC. Freshman Andi Logan (Eliot, Maine) notched her fi rst collegiate goal against WNEC. Senior Julia Steese (Wlimot, N.H.) had a solid week for the Chargers, recording a goal and an assist. Senior Christina Quirk (Milford, Conn.) played 180 minutes, allowed just one goal and made 14 saves. The Chargers will travel to New England College on Monday, October 13 for a makeup game at 4:00 p.m. Colby-Sawyer returns home on Wednesday, October 15 when they will host Gordon at 3:00 p.m.. They will fi nish the week on Saturday, October 18 at Wentworth at 1:00 p.m. Women’s Tennis (15-0, 10-0 TCCC)... The Colby-Sawyer women’s tennis team went 3-0 last week earning the No.1 seed in the TCCC tournament by defeating Endicott, 5-4 on Tuesday, October 7. The team also defeated Southern Maine, 9-0 and Division II foe, Franklin Pierce, 9-0. Freshman Lauren Turenne (Reading, Mass.) won the deciding match, 2-1 against Endicott after dropping the fi rst set 5-7. Junior Jen LaChance (Killingworth, Conn.) picked up four more wins last week including being part of two out of the fi ve team points won against Endicott. She won her No.2 singles match 6-1, 6-2 and her No.1 doubles match, 8-1 with teammate Hannah White (Stockbridge, Mass.). The women’s tennis team opens TCCC Quarterfi nal action on Tuesday, October 14 when they will host the No.8 seed, Curry at 2:00 p.m. Women’s Volleyball (15-8, 6-1 TCCC)... The Colby-Sawyer College women’s volleyball team went 2-0 last week rolling past Anna Maria, 3-0 and outlasting Middlebury, 3-2. Freshman Nicole Duarte (Windham, N.H.) had a solid week for the Chargers with 18 kills, a .308 hitting percentage and fi ve blocks. Sophomore Michelle Doody (Franklin, Mass.) had a team-high 21 kills last week including 15 against Middlebury, who was ranked ninth in New England. Junior setter Genny Moore (Centerville, Mass.) ran an effi cient offense last week and tallied 78 assists, eight kills, and 15 digs. The volleyball team plays at home against the University of New England on Tuesday, October 14 and against Johnson & Wales on Thursday, October 16. Both matches are at 7:00 p.m. The Chargers fi nish the week with a tri-match on Saturday, October 18 at Eastern Conn. St. They will play the host school at 2:00 p.m. and Coast Guard at noon.
