Official Rules 1 ORGANISATION The Lines of Torres Vedras Ultra Marathon 100Km Individual – Running Challenge is an event organized by the Ministry of Nacional Defense, Armed Forces General Staff, Armed Forces Disabled Veterans Association, Lines of Torres Vedras Historic Route and Endurance Portugal, AREP – Portuguese Equine Resistance Association, with the technical organization carried out by Xistarca, Promoções e Publicações Desportivas, Lda and the institutional support from the Municipalities of Vila Franca de Xira, Arruda dos Vinhos, Loures, Sobral de Monte Agraço, Mafra and Torres Vedras. 2 DATE / TIME / PLACE The event takes place on May 22nd, 2021, starting at 6h, at Praia dos Pescadores, Vila Franca de Xira and finishing at Expotorres, Torres Vedras. 3 COURSE / DISTANCE / ALTIMETRY The race, with an approximate distance of 100km and an accumulated positive difference (D +) of 3000m and an accumulated negative difference (D-) of 2980m, makes the following route: Starting line at Praia dos Pescadores (Vila Franca de Xira) / Forte da Aguieira (Vila Franca de Xira) / Forte do Alpim (Loures) / Forte da Carvalha (Arruda dos Vinhos) / Moinho de A-do- Mourão (Arruda dos Vinhos) / Forte do Alqueidão (Sobral Monte Agraço) / Ermida N. S. do Socorro (Mafra) / Castro do Zambujal (Torres Vedras) / Foz do Sizandro (Torres Vedras) / Finishing line at ExpoTorres (Torres Vedras). The organization will signal the route with signaling tapes (red and white) with a reflective band and vertical signaling plates. It is imperative to follow the marked paths without taking shortcuts. Participants, if they stop seeing the signs for approximately 500m, should go backwards until they find the respective signs. 4 CHECKPOINTS (PAC) The running event is carried out in partial autonomy, both through roads and trails, between Vila Franca de Xira and Torres Vedras. Participants are supported by a total of 6 supply and control points, or PAC (Pontos de Apoios e Controlo): 1st PAC 17,2km - A-do-Mourão (Arruda dos Vinhos) 2nd PAC 32km - Forte do Alqueidão (Sobral Monte Agraço) 3rd PAC 48,8km - Ermida N. S. do Socorro (Mafra) 4th PAC 61,7km - Castro do Zambujal (Torres Vedras) 5th PAC 80km - Foz do Sizandro (Torres Vedras) 6th PAC 100km – Finish (Torres Vedras) PACs are mandatory crossing points. In each of these controls there will be a responsible / Judge of the organization. Failure to control one or more control points will lead to the disqualification of the participant. There may be other unidentified PACs to register participant’s passage and guarantee the running course is respected. Partial Autonomy is understanded as the ability to run autonomously between two consecutive PAC, in terms of food and water supply, clothing and safety, allowing the athlete to adapt to unforeseeable or weather complications. This designation implies the following: 1 Each participant has to carry all the necessary gear described in the section “Equipment” throughout the full extension of the course; 2 This equipment should be carried in an adequate bag or backpack and it must be presented to a judge whenever solicited under the penalty of disqualification if not present or refusal to be inspected. 3 The participant will find food and drinks in each PAC that are to be consumed at the spot. Here, the participants may also fill up their containers exclusively with water. 4 The participants may have their own support team (max 2 people per participant) but they may only interact with each other inside the defined area of a PAC. 5 Participants cannot be accompanied in any length of the course by anyone, other than other registered participants, with the exception of a 100m extension before and after each PAC. 6 There will not be any kind of traffic control in roads circulated by motorized vehicles so participants must strictly follow all pedestrian safety rules. 5 DURATION/SCHEDULE LIMIT The event will have a maximum duration of 20h in total and participants must cross the following PACs before their designated time frames: 1 – PAC 3 (Serra do Socorro) before 16h00 – 10h elapsed time 2 – PAC 5 (Foz do Sizandro) before 21h00 – 15h elapsed time 3 – PAC 6 (Finish Line) before 02h00 (May 23rd) – 20h elapsed time Failing to cross these PACs before the defined cutoff times will result in the automatic disqualification of the participant. 6 REGISTRATION 6.1 PRICES / DATES 1st Registration Period – before April 18th – 100€ 2nd Registration Period – from April 19th till May 16th – 120€ 3rd Registration Period – from May 17th till May 19th – 150€ When registering, the participant may choose to include transportation services provided by the organization from the finish line back to the start of the course (Torres Vedras -> Vila Franca de Xira) or from the finish line to Lisbon (Torres Vedras -> Sete Rios train station). There will be 3 different departure times for this transportation starting at the finish line (Torres Vedras): at 18h30; at 21h30 and at 02h00, the final cutoff time for the event. The price for this transportation service is 15€. 6.2 REGISTRATION CHANNELS Registrations can be made online through the event’s official website, at www.running- challenge.com, or directly at Xistarca’s website, at www.xistarca.pt. In person registrations can be made in Xistarca’s front store, at Calçada da Tapada, 71A, 1349-012, Alcântara, Lisbon. 7 EQUIPMENT 7.1 OWN EQUIPMENT Each participant is required to bring the following items: 1 Cellphone operational to make/receive calls 2 Powerbank 3 Water reservoir (min 1L) 4 Food (min 4 snacks) 5 Whistle 6 Heat sheet (100x200cm) 7 Headlamp with backup batteries 8 ID document with name and photo Any participant who starts the competition with other material, in addition to the mandatory one, will have to transport it to the finish line. It is strictly forbidden to have access to or abandon material on any part of the route. In addition, the participant may have other equipment, clothes, and/or food supplies securely stored in a bag/backpack properly identified with the bib number and leave them with the organization. These items are transported and given back to him at the 3rd PAC (Ermida da N. S. do Socorro), approximately halfway through the course, and at the finish line. 7.2 PARTICIPATION KIT Each registration comes with a participation kit, given by the organization, that includes: 1 shirt, 1 backpack, 1 timing chip, 1 bib, 1 medal (given at the finish line) and 1 notepad with information about the running event and its historical course. Shirts are available in the following sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL and XXL. Sizes will be distributed according to the requests made upon registration. In case of end of stock, the organization will suggest an alternative size. 7.3 PARTICIPATION KIT PICKUP After completing their registration, participants can pick up their participation kit in the following days and places: - May 20th, Thursday, between 14h and 18h30, at Xistarca front store, Calçada da Tapada, 71A, 1349-012, Alcântara, Lisbon; - May 21st, Friday, between 10h and 18h, at the Armed Forces Disabled Veterans Association, or ADFA (Associação dos Deficientes das Forças Armadas), Av. Padre Cruz, 1600-560, Lisbon; - May 22nd, at the starting line of the running course, between 05h15 and 05h45. Participants must present the registration proof sent by Xistarca to their email account upon payment confirmation, as well as a valid form of identification. 8 BIB AND TIMING CHIP All participants are required to use the event’s bib and timing chip. The bib must be properly placed in the frontal area of the shirt (chest or belly), visible and without any props over it and the chip must be setup in the shoes’ shoelaces, according to the indications printed on it. 9 AWARDS AND TROPHIES The first five men and the five first women to qualify, irrespective of age, will be called on to the podium and awarded a corresponding trophy. Every qualified participant that crosses the finish line will receive a medal and may download a proof of participation from the results webpage that can be found at Xistarca’s website. 10 CONDITIONS TO PARTICIPATE Participation in this event is open to anyone who is willing, regardless of nationality or gender, and above 20 years, so long as they: 1- Are aware and properly prepared for the distances and specific hardships associated with trail running and its inherent upward and downward slippery slopes; 2- Are able to face adverse weather and environmental conditions on their own (darkness, wind, cold, heat, fog, rain, etc); 3- Know how to manage physical and mental problems that may arise due to extreme fatigue, digestion problems, muscle and joint pains, small injuries, etc; 4- Are aware that the organization is not responsible to help them manage their problems and that their safety in a trail run depends first and foremost on their own ability to adapt to eventual problems. 11 AGE AND GENDER CATEGORIES Male categories: Seniors (20 to 34 y.o.); Vet I (35 to 39 y.o.); Vet II (40 to 44 y.o.); Vet III (45 to 49 y.o.); Vet IV (50 to 54 y.o.); Vet V (55 to 59 y.o.) and Vet VI (+60 y.o.). Female categories: Seniors (20 to 34 y.o.); Vet I (35 to 39 y.o.); Vet II (40 to 44 y.o.); Vet III (45 to 49 y.o.); Vet IV (50 to 54 y.o.); Vet V (55 to 59 y.o.) and Vet VI (+60 y.o.). 12 SPORTSMANSHIP The following behaviors are considered unsportsmanlike conducts and may lead to the disqualification of its perpetrator: Faking or lying on any element of their registration; Not showing at the starting line with the bib and timing chip properly placed Not being physically ready; Using the bib and chip associated to another person; Using more than one chip or bib; Not respecting the signaling and barriers placed throughout the course by the organization; Not following the defined running course; Not following instructions given by the organization; Showing any unsporting behavior (e.g.
