6Th Jagna International Workshop
1st Circular (28 July 2019) 9th Jagna International Workshop: Stochastic Analysis – Mathematical Methods and Real World Models January 8 – 14, 2020 Pedagogical Level January 15- 18, 2020 Research Conference Research Center for Theoretical Physics Central Visayan Institute Foundation Jagna, Bohol 6308, Philippines ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Stochastic fluctuations are ubiquitous in complex biological, physical, social and financial systems. Literature abounds in studies applying commonly encountered stochastic processes: Wiener, Lévy, Ornstein-Uhlenbeck, Poisson, noise in various forms – white, grey and colored, and fractional stochastic processes for anomalous diffusion. However, rapid advances in technology continue to spew large volumes of data. Maintaining a big picture perspective and decoding information from such rapid data outflow require an expanded mathematical toolbox that minimizes complicated estimation and approximation methods. This Workshop shall then be a forum for discussion of stochastic analytical methods for real world models of complex systems such as those exhibiting memory or dissipation. The Workshop is the 9th in a series organized by the Research Center for Theoretical Physics (RCTP). The informal nature of the Jagna Workshop series is meant to foster active interaction among speakers and participants, and to encourage graduate students and postdoctoral researchers to get insights from invited lecturers so that viable research targets could be clearly defined. There will also be sessions for oral and poster presentations by the participants. For research and teaching capacity building in local institutes, prior to the research conference, there will be a one-week introduction to stochastic analysis by Prof. Ludwig Streit. An orientation for the pedagogical lectures and some preparatory reading materials can be downloaded from the link http://ccm.uma.pt/jagna2020/, or at, https://sites.google.com/g.msuiit.edu.ph/msuiitphysics . -

(Vitex Parviflora Juss.) Mother Trees in Lila, Bohol, Philippines
IJERD – International Journal of Environmental and Rural Development (2015) 6-2 Research article erd Characterization of Potential Molave (Vitex parviflora Juss.) Mother Trees in Lila, Bohol, Philippines NOEL T. LOMOSBOG* Bohol Island State University, Bohol, Philippines Email: [email protected] NOEL S. GAMIL Bohol Island State University, Bohol, Philippines Received 16 December 2014 Accepted 1 April 2015 (*Corresponding Author) Abstract Molave (Vitex parviflora Juss.) is a timber species which naturally grows in the province of Bohol and is considered as the province’ flagship timber species. Molave is generally used for furniture, hand tools, and is known for its durability as beams on bridges and as railroad ties without artificial preservatives. Molave is also a recommended afforestation species in the marginal uplands. The lack of information about the location and distribution of superior Molave mother trees is a major constraint in scaling up the production of high quality seedlings of native timber trees in Bohol. The study aimed to phenotypically characterize the potential mother trees in Municipality of Lila, Bohol using the standard selection criteria (stem straightness, stem forking, branch angle, stem circularity, tree health, branch thickness, and branch persistence), which were developed by the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources (DENR). Specifically, to know the number of potential, Molave is a mother tree with its merchantable height, diameter and elevation. Molave trees with at least 28 cm in diameter and at least 3 meters in height were considered as potential mother trees. Out of 242 potential mother trees, only 160 trees satisfied the DENR Administrative Order 2010-11. The average height and Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) were 5.91 meters and 40.47 cm, respectively. -
Ecosystems and Natural Resources
ecosystems and natural resources “Live off the interest, don’t mine the capital.” Bohol is considered as one of the few provinces in the country that still has some of its diverse ecosystems left in reasonable condition. Its varied ecosystems are home to both migratory and endemic wildlife species. Bohol’s freshwater, beach, mangrove, coral reef, and open-water ecosystems are intricately tied culturally, economically and ecologically with the life of the Boholano people. This chapter provides a description of the ecosystems and natural resources of Bohol as a basis for understanding how to manage them. Chapter 2 Figure 2.1. The coasts are the natural crossroads between the sea and the land Chapter 2 — Ecosystems and Natural Resources 17 Figure 2.2. Map of river networks and watershed areas in Bohol 18 Bohol Island: Its Coastal Environment Profile FRESHWATER ECOSYSTEM There are eleven major rivers in Bohol fed by hundreds of tributaries emanating from the upland watersheds. The major river systems include the Wahig-Inabanga River (Inabanga), Ipil River (Trinidad), Soom River (Ubay), Caru-od River (Candijay), Lumbay River (Anda-Guindulman), Manaba River (Garcia Hernandez), Loboc River (Loay-Loboc), Panampan River (Dimiao), Abatan River (Cortes-Maribojoc), Moalong River (Loon) and Alejawan River (Duero). Bohol has three major watersheds, all of which have been declared as protected areas under the National Integrated Protected Area System (NIPAS). These are the Wahig-Inabanga Watershed, Loboc Watershed and Duero Watershed. The Wahig-Inabanga Watershed covers two watershed projects of the DENR, namely, the Bohol Watershed Reforestation Project (BWRP) in Dagohoy and Wahig-Pamacsalan Watershed Reforestation Project (WPWRP) in Pilar.
