Fringe 2016 Pierre Novellie Is Cool Peter, Pleasance Courtyard, 9.45Pm Edinburgh Fringe 2016: Comedy Pierre Novellie is Cool Peter Pleasance Courtyard August 3 – 28 August (not 15) @ 9.45pm ‘Dawn of a major talent’ Guardian Is it cool to be depressed? Is it cool to have read an 800 year-old poem about magi- cal, vaginal ventriloquism, or to have to worried about more about elves than the op- posite (human) sex? Maybe. Finding that the rewards of Warhammer might not have been quite so worthwhile as he thought in his youth, Pierre Novellie picks his way through an equally perilous adulthood littered with rats and chicken bones - and that’s just the journey to the end of his street. That’s not cool. But then a dawning realisation that very little is helps Pierre start to feel good after all. Join comedy’s hottest new prospect on the road to some kind of salvation. Pierre Novellie is one of the best up-and-coming comedians in the United Kingdom. After appearing with the Footlights at Cambridge University, Pierre was nominated for the Amused Moose Comedy Award and Best Debutant for The Skinny Awards in 2013, the year in which he won the Amused Moose Laugh-Off. In 2014 he was nominated for Chortle’s Best Newcomer award. His 2015 Edinburgh show, Pierre Novellie is Anxious Peter, was received well by au- diences and critics alike, with The Scotsman, Chortle, The List and Broadway Baby (among others) all giving it 4 stars. Since then Pierre has since been nominated for Best Club Comic at the 2016 Chor- tle Awards, and is currently filming for Channel 4’s Comedy Blaps. He was also a recent guest on BBC Radio 4’s The Rest is History hosted by Frank Skinner. Other highlights include appearing on the‘Joke Thieves’ pilot for BBC Two opposite Marcus Brigstocke, BBC Three’s Edinburgh Comedy Fest Live and 4OD’s com- edy series Taxi Gags. Pierre’s writing credits include ITV’s Newszoids, Adam Bux- ton’s Shed of Christmas. Visitor figures, at around 200,000, are on a par with 2008. Fringe 2010 ticket sales and statistics posted August 31st, 2010. modified September 1st, 2010. Initial statistics have been put out by the Fringe Society for the 2010 festival. The headline figure is a new record of 1.95m tickets sold. This beats the previous record of 1.85m in 2009 by 5%. Other stats include: 40,254 performances of 2,453 shows in 259 performing spaces; comedy made up 35% of the overall programme, theatre 29% and music 16%. Articles on this topic can be found in The Scotsman, Guardian and Herald, although I found the one in The Stage slightly more objective. As reported yesterday, some venue chiefs have expressed concerns about low attendances in the last week of the festival. As this coincided with the start of the school year, there are views in some quarters that this points to fewer tourists visiting the Scottish capital for the festival. There are also concerns that ticket sales have reached a natural limit, coupled with a certain degree of apprehension that 2011 will be tougher due to the recession.
