We graduated the largest class in Joy McDonald school history with 71 students. The senior class achieved the highest ACT average (24.8) and David Morris Warren Robinson were offered the most in scholarships of any CA graduating class (more than $5.9 million). In Dr. Cason Shirley grades 3-10, our students raised their ACT Aspire scores to our highest scores ever, scoring at the Alan Thomason 77th percentile nationally. But our successes were much more than academics. PRESIDENT Athletically, our boys’ basketball team dominated its competition on the way to our school’s first Dr. James A. Thomas basketball state championship in March. In May our young and talented girls’ softball team also brought home its first state championship, winning the final two games without allowing CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER a run. LOWER SCHOOL PRINCIPAL Finally, our Bulldogs United bullying prevention program helped enhance an already strong COLUMBIA CAMPUS student culture at CA, teaching proper behaviors towards each other and making it easier to Trent Hill bring problem behaviors to light. Through the dedicated efforts of our faculty and students, we saw a significant reduction in the reports of bullying behaviors. The program consists of periodic events, trips, and opportunities designed to enrich and support the regular school curriculum. The program is intended to instill a college level mindset in students while also exposing them to challenging and thought-provoking opportunities they may not have within the regular curriculum. For the 2018-19 school year, students with the CA REACH program were able to attend three opportunities of enrichment. In September, students traveled to Shiloh National Military Battlefield, in Shiloh, Tenn. While there, students were able to tour the battlefield and learn of the rich history from the Civil War. In November, students were able to view venues of the walking horse industry in Lewisburg, Tenn., and Shelbyville, Tenn., as well as the engineering facility at Arnold AFB near Manchester, Tenn. Students were able to speak with officials at the Tennessee Walking Horse Headquarters, in Lewisburg, and learn about the history of the Tennessee Walking Horse and its impact in It is with great excitement to announce that Columbia Academy will middle Tennessee and, ultimately, the world. AND MISS WELCOMES THREE COLUMBIA ACADEMY NEW BOARD MEMBERS We are proud to welcome three individuals to the Columbia Academy Board of Directors. We welcome Amy Greene, Joy McDonald and Landon Loveall to these important roles at Columbia Academy. Amy Greene is a manager in the Assurance Services department of KraftCPAs, PLLC based in Nashville, Tenn. with offices in Columbia and Lebanon, Tenn.. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management from Freed-Hardeman University in 1996. Amy attends church services with her church family at Spring Hill church of Christ. She has two girls – Samantha and Anzly who have attended Columbia Academy since they moved to Columbia in 2010. She is excited to serve the faculty and administration through her membership on the Board of Directors. She looks forward to developing relationships and encouraging the faculty and administration as they work together to fulfill the mission of Columbia Academy and provide the community with an excellent Christ-based education. Joy McDonald resides in Centerville, where she has served as Chairman of the Hickman County Board of Education and as Director of the Centerville Church of Christ Day School. She holds a B.S. degree in Accounting from Lipscomb University where she met her husband, Bill. They have four children and 10 grandchildren; four who attend Columbia Academy. “I am a strong believer in the merits of Christian education.
