[Test] First UAE Astronaut in Space
Received by NSD/FARA Registration Unit 09/26/2019 10:58:01 AM [Test] First UAE Astronaut in Space Hagir Elawad <[email protected]> Thu, Sep 26, 2019 at 10:39 AM Reply-To: Hagir Elawad <[email protected]> Good morning Colleagues, Yesterday, Hazzaa AIMansoori traveled to the International Space Station, becoming the first Emirati astronaut in space. Alongside US and Russian astronauts, he is conducting an eiaht-dav mission, during which he will carry out 15 experiments on behalf of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center. He will also give a broadcasted tour of the ISS in Arabic for viewers on Earth. During AIMansoori’s mission, live updates will be available via the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center. “[AIMansoori and his alternate Sultan AINeyadi] would fit perfectly into any astronaut or cosmonaut core that we have already, which is really quite an achievement given that their program is so new and given the training that they've received,” said American astronaut Jessica Meir in a press conference prior to their departure. “I think for us as astronauts, the similarities are more important than the differences, and that's what's so nice when we are all working together as a team.” Next year, following AIMansoori’s mission to the ISS, the UAE plans to launch the “Hope” probe to Mars. The UAE Space Agency is collaborating with NASA to develop its space program, and last October the two agencies signed an agreement outlining opportunities for collaboration in research and manned space exploration. In addition to contributing to space science, the UAE’s space program is designed to encourage young people in the UAE and throughout the Middle East region to pursue careers in science and engineering. -
Space Activities 2018
Space Activities in 2018 Jonathan McDowell [email protected] 2019 Feb 20 Rev 1.4 Preface In this paper I present some statistics characterizing astronautical activity in calendar year 2018. In the 2014 edition of this review, I described my methodological approach and some issues of definitional ambguity; that discussion is not repeated here, and it is assumed that the reader has consulted the earlier document, available at http://planet4589.org/space/papers/space14.pdf (This paper may be found as space18.pdf at the same location). Orbital Launch Attempts During 2018 there were 114 orbital launch attempts, with 112 reaching orbit.
