History of Men's SBL-QABL 1986 until 2019 The Maroochydore Eagles Basketball were one of the eight original Clubs who formed the State Basketball League (SBL) in 1986. The SBL later became a member of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), then the Australian Basketball League (ABA). The Queensland Conference is known as the Queensland Australian Basketball League (QABL). The Maroochydore Club started as the Maroochydore Sea Eagles. In an attempt to involve all Clubs on Sunshine Coast, we changed our name to the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles. In 1996 there was a committee of Caloundra, Nambour, and Maroochydore formed to organise...... In 1997 the Maroochydore Club were returned sole rights to the license, and the Men's team went on to win the National Championship. In 1999 the Maroochydore Basketball, along with other foundation Clubs of the SBL, formed a new Conference known as the Southern Cross. It took a few years for Queensland Basketball to accept the Southern Cross which eventually became the South Conference of the QABL. In 2007 Basketball in Queensland returned to a full State Competition with 15 Clubs all with Ladies’ and Men’s teams. In 2015 The Sunshine Basketball was formed, and known as Sunshine Coast Phoenix. In 2016 in the State basketball League, we played as the Phoenix Clippers. In 2017 Noosa Basketball, Caloundra Basketball, and Maroochydore Basketball were combined and became the Sunshine Coast Phoenix. Below we have tried to give an as accurate as possible history of players and family of players in this Club. We now acknowledge Players and Coaches that have played or coached 100 games in an elite band known as the Centurions Club. We will be expanding to Referees and to all the workers who contribute to making it possible to bring the QABL to our Stadium. We have also tried to give player history of those who made Queensland teams while playing with Maroochydore or went on to a USA College, AIS, NBL, WNBL, and Australia, and also the MVP for every year plus other stats. We have also tried to give players a number in the Club, although it may not be as accurate as we would have liked in the past. It now gives us a benchmark for the future and any new player will have their number recorded from their first game. In 2001 accepted an Assist Coach position in Boise State Then 4 years as asssitant Coach Troy Alabama. He accepted a Head Coach Position at an NAIA College in Owensboro Kentucky.He coached for 2 years for a 38 Wins 27Loss @ 58.46% In his initial year he won the NAIA Womens Indipendent Coach of the Year. He then was selected to coach Newberry Womens Team in the( SAC) South Atlantic Conference were he Coached 289 Games 179 wins and 110 Loss record @ 61.9% Won The South Atlantic Conference in the 2014-15 Season Sean left Newberry 2018 as most winningest Coach in the Schools history,the 5th winningest Coach in the South Atlantic Conference. Sean shared SAC Coach of the year in 2010.
