We had a workshop making hand spun knitted, crochet, and felted poppies for the 100th anniversary of ANZAC. Our members had a lovely exhibition recently, as we like to show our craft of spinning, knitting, crochet, weaving, and felting to the community, and were pleased to sell them some of the articles we made. We enjoy taking part in workshops, great for learning new skills and improving our old ones, in crafts relating to spinning and weaving. We had various fun workshops in needle and wet felting, wool and other fibre dyeing, some colourful bunting for the group, a French knitting workshop to end up as interesting objects, not mats! If you would like to learn a new craft like spinning, weaving or hand felting, new members are welcome. The Wool Road Spinners and Weavers meet in the No. 2 Classroom at the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum, Dent St, Huskisson, on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month, from 9.30am till 1pm. Sunday the 23rd August saw the first weigh in for our new comp year. The beach section was well represented with the main catch being salmon, weighed in by Kylie Rooke, Kathy and Glenn Warnecke, Phil Martin and Dyllon Hudson. Salmon was also the mystery fish of the month and this was won by Dyllon. I believe there was only one bream presented to the weigh master from the beach, perhaps the water was too cold or the tide was all wrong. One of our junior fisho’s, Thomas Pearson presented a good catch of tailor, just the right size for smoking. Well done Thomas. The deep sea crews were out in what I am led to believe were ideal conditions for fishing. This appears to be true as eight of our members fished. Their catches included a very mixed bag with some very nice snapper, flathead, mowong and leather jacket. Some of these fish will start off our board for the heaviest of species for the year. The estuary participants brought in some good bream, and off the Rodney with Snapper rocks came salmon. It should be noted that none of the salmon came anywhere near the salmon of last month which was very nearly five kilos. Until next time.
