Department of Art & Design SUNY Oswego BFA SPRING 2020 GRADUATION CLASS CATALOG

With great pleasure and admiration, the Department of Art and Design at SUNY Oswego presents the spring, BFA graduating class of 2020.

FOREWORD By Cynthia Clabough, faculty coordinator of BFA exhibition course

Every semester, students earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree must prove their right to the degree by completing and presenting a body of work that serves as a visual thesis. This rite of passage event provides proof to the community that they are emerging from college as visual art professionals. As with many rites of passage in the age of COVID-19, the spring class of 2020 was denied that opportunity. As this catalog demonstrates, that exhibition would have been one of the strongest in a long history of outstanding BFA shows.

To the class of 2020, thank you. Your flexibility, understanding, and tenacity have been inspiring. You deserved so much more than what was given to you. I can only hope that we will all be able to bask in the glow of your collective achievement one day. Until then, to borrow from popular culture, “Live Long and Prosper.” 20

I enjoy creating trippy, psychedelic imagery and like to use the ocean and space motifs.

One of my favorite pieces I’ve made is a piece titled “It’s me, Beach!” which was also one of the most enjoyable works to create. For this piece I created a silhouetted portrait of myself using sand, sea shells, sea glass, modeling paste and oil paint on a wood canvas.

Although extremely frustrating gluing every single individual sea shell onto the board the outcome was even better than I could have hoped. That’s all we can ever wish for, right?!
