Alfred Street Baptist Church Foundation 2007-2019 Scholarship Recipients Summary

Since 2007 the Alfred Street Baptist Church Foundation (Foundation) has awarded more than a million dollars in scholarships to about 325 students including 313 high school ​ ​ ​ ​ seniors and 12 divinity school students. The Foundation awards millennium scholarships ​ ​ of $20,000 and legacy scholarships from $1,000 to $5,000.

88 of the 313 high school students had expected family contributions of $0. Fifteen of the twenty-one Millennium Scholars had an EFC of $0.

Millennium scholarships are funded by the Foundation and Alfred Street Baptist Church (ASBC). Legacy Scholarships are funded by members and friends of ASBC.

GPAs ranged from 2.46 to 4.54 and SAT scores ranged from 1200/2400 to 2230/2400 and from 850/1600 to 1550/1600. ALFRED STREET BAPTIST CHURCH FOUNDATION 2020 Scholarship Application Guidelines

Eligibility Requirements:

Graduation by June 30, 2020 from a high school in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area (Washington, D.C.; Alexandria, VA; Arlington County, VA; Fairfax County, VA; Falls Church, VA; and Prince Georges County, MD) OR Alfred Street Baptist Church Membership ​ ​ US citizenship

Admission to and commitment to attend a four-year institution in the Fall of 2020

Demonstrated commitment to community service

Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.75 or higher

Combined SAT score (reading/writing, and math) of 850 or higher OR a composite ACT score of 19 or higher

Financial need – The cost of college attendance exceeds the expected family contribution plus other scholarships and grants.

______Proof of Financial Need ● A copy of the complete Student Aid Report (SAR) - (The SAR ​ ​ is generated by the U.S. Department of Education after the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is ​ ​ submitted).

● If the SAR Expected Family contribution (EFC) is followed by an asterisk or a capital letter, the parent(s)’ or guardian(s)’ most recent IRS form 1040 must also be submitted.

● If the EFC is followed by “C” proof of citizenship must be submitted.

PLEASE NOTE: Each finalist will be required to provide a copy of an acceptance letter and a financial aid award letter from the college he or she plans to attend.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Award Amounts: ​

Approximately forty Legacy Scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.

Two $20,000 Millennium Scholarships ($5,000 annually for up to 4 years).

Selection Process: ​

The Foundation Scholarship Committee will review applications in April 2020; ​ select and interview finalists in May 2020; and present awards in June 2020.
