One of those started several years ago when I stumbled across a recording of Only Heaven, a set of songs for soprano by Ricky Ian Gordon to text of Langston Hughes. Intrigued – we sang Ricky’s Love, My Sweet Rain a few years ago. I adore the poetry of Langston Hughes and I fell madly in love with the music. It sang to me of optimism, of people living their lives unfettered by the restrictions of society. -

Top Indian Fashion Designers Exhibit in Denmark
Top Indian Fashion Designers Exhibit in Denmark INDIA : FASHION NOW Exhibition period: 18th August 2012 – 13th January 2013 “Now it’s all about India” – that’s how clearly the great German designer Karl Lagerfeld put it in 2012 when he launched his Metier d’Art collection for the fashion empire Chanel. And that’s what it’s all about at the Danish contemporary art museum ARKEN in the period 18th August – 13th January. In the museum’s first fashion exhibition INDIA : FASHION NOW, ARKEN Museum of Modern Art takes a close look at seven Indian fashion designers, all of whom have positioned themselves centrally on the international fashion scene. “The Indian fashion creators are leaving their imprint everywhere in the international fashion world. You see Katy Perry and Oh Land in star designer Manish Arora’s playful creations, Lady Gaga in Little Shilpa’s sculptural designs and Naomi Campbell on the catwalk in Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s fantastic dresses. It’s a veritable cornucopia of spectacular and breathlessly beautiful creations that the seven Indian designers are presenting in ARKEN’s exhibition,” says the museum’s director Christian Gether. Every one of the seven designers has been hand-picked for the exhibition and is part of the pace-setting Indian fashion scene that has grown up since the end of the nineties. These are designers who challenge and experiment with the traditional Indian garment culture. They transform Indian fashion through sophisticated stylistic experiments and develop the framework for what Indian fashion can be. With them they have some unique traditions of craftsmanship which they introduce into an international context and thus create a new, exciting idiom which elegantly or teasingly builds a bridge between the local and the global, between past and present. -
1 Front Cover
Front Cover 1 “We hold a treasure not made of gold, in earthen vessels, wealth untold, one treasure only: the Lord, the Christ, in earthen vessels.” 2 Corinthians 4:7 3 29 September 2019 Welcome, dear family and friends, We are thrilled that you can join us for a final celebration of this amazing journey on which God has taken us. We are aging, hopefully with a bit of style and grace, but know that the years will surely diminish our ability to do events together. Before our minds and bodies will no longer allow us to stand before you, the five of us want to honor you with one last concert, an opportunity for you and for us to give thanks to the One who has been with us and gone before us every step of the way. We’ve “come home” to this place where our journey began so many years ago. This represents the closing of a circle for us. We recorded our first album, Neither Silver Nor Gold, just blocks from here. The cover art on this concert program harkens back to the Lord of Light album that we recorded here. And today we circle back again, coming together one last time, to be with you, our family and friends. Just to be clear, this final concert doesn’t mean that the St. Louis Jesuits are going to disappear any time soon. We already have several individual projects in the works. There are still new dreams to dream, new songs to write and new prayers to pray. -
Comparing Christianity's Truth About God with World Religions
ComparingChristianitywithWReligions e-book:Layout 1 3/4/11 9:09 AM Page 8 Comparing Christianity’s Truth About God with World Religions Word of God and God • But the Lord is the true God; he is the living God, the eternal King (Jeremiah 10:10). • Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other (Isaiah 45:22). • There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy (James 4:12). • For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”), yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live (1 Corinthians 8:5–7). • For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities— his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse (Romans 1:20). • God is love (1 John 4:8). • Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows (James 1:17). • A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, he leads forth the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun- scorched land (Psalm 68:5–6). -
Sneed-Rojas Hands That Hold
Hands that Hold By Emilio Rojas and Pamela Sneed Commissioned by the Centre for Human Rights and the Arts Bard College, 2021 Let me sip your sap Through a sumac straw I am a vessel, Overflowing. Let me drink your blood of my blood, Your roots imbibe water from the ground Who owns this land? Who was here before us? Whose hands worked the fields, picked up the fruits? My arms, your branches, My torso, your trunk My lungs, your leaves Alveoli, A tree lives inside me, Upside down, I inhale oxygen, Exhale CO2 You inhale CO2 Exhale oxygen Beings in symbiosis Invisible rhythms, we’ve forgotten how to breathe into each other’s utterances, language became a thing of the mouth, And the vocal cords, And the body forgot its speech, when did we think ourselves different from the land from each other? then our mother? How much blood, sap, serum, suero, sweat has fed this soil? Whose hands, whose sweat, whose blood has dripped into this dirt, we try to call home? Even if we have been displaced to many times to count or carry, We are settlers in stolen territories How can anyone be illegal in looted land? What is the weight of the blood running through my veins, valves, and vacancies? Each drop a portal a place to be, The sweet locus of your origin Blood like sap traveling Through my body. I inhale oxygen, Exhale CO2 You inhale CO2 Exhale oxygen Am I drinking from the roots, or from the branches? Which way does your scarlet gown flow, the color of cardinals and martyrs, sweet rain and iron Our bodies swelling, made of water and matter. -

Story: This book chronicles the He-Man newspaper comics from beginning to end. Characters: He- Man is in reality Prince Adam, with the secret ability to transform. He saves the day with the help of his friends, not just with brawn but with brains. Language: Very 80's dialogue. Full of cheesy lines and some morals. Contains suggestive adult content, but also appropriate reading for younger readers. While a lot of the dialogue with women is very sexist, women pl 80's. While a lot of the dialogue with women is very sexist, women play strong roles in the book and are often the heroes. A fun leap backwards in time, a nice distraction from my normal reading. Took some time to read because the book is so physically big it often causes cricks in my neck so I had to take lots of breaks! Dec 31, Vladimir rated it really liked it. -

If you have any passion at all for bluegrass or old timey music then this will be (hands down) your album of the year. Loudon Wainwright is an artist I have long admired since I heard a song called “Samson and the Warden” (a wonderfully witty tale of a guy who doesn’t mind being in gaol so long as the warden doesn’t cut his hair) on an ABC radio show called “Room to Move” many years ago. A few years later he had his one and only “hit” with the novelty “Dead Skunk”. Now Loudon pundits will compare the instrumentation on this album with that on that song, and if a real pundit with that of his “The Swimming Song”. The backing is restrained. Banjo (Poole’s own instrument of choice), with guitar, some great mandolin (from Chris Thile) some fiddle (multi instrumentalist David Mansfield), some piano and harmonica and on a couple of tracks some horns. Now, Charlie Poole to the uninitiated was a major star in the very early days of country music. He is said to have pursued a musical career so he wouldn’t have to work and at the same time he could ensure his primary source of income, bootleg liquor, was properly distilled. He was no writer and adapted songs he had heard to his style. -
