• The Evolution of Curative Tourism at Borsec
THE EVOLUTION OF CURATIVE TOURISM AT BORSEC DOMBAY ŞTEFAN1, MAGYARI-SÁSKA ZSOLT2 ABSTRACT. – The evolution of curative tourism at Borsec. Taking into account the natural resources - mineral water springs, natural landscape - and the geographical position, the tourism in Borsec health resort should develop much faster than today. The main condition of the development of tourism is to remove the deficiencies in touristic infrastructure and a more effective use of natural resources. On the other hand the environmental protection has major importance. Since the 90s touristic flow decreases continuously, which can be explained by a lower quality of infrastructure and services. Although the curative qualities of mineral waters have been recognized they are not sufficiently used in spa therapy. The sustainable tourism is based only on the rational use of natural resources. Keywords: mineral water, curative tourism, Borsec, spa treatment 1. INTRODUCTION Borsec is located in: Northern region of Harghita County, in the center of the Carpathians mountain chain, on the east side Gurghiu Mountains, in Borsec depression, in the upper basin of Bistricioara, Wine Valley, the contact between Calimani, Giurgeu and Bistrita Mountains, at 26 km from Topliţa on national road 15 which leads to Piatra Neamt. Geographia Napocensis Anul VIII, Nr. 2, 2014 UNELE ASPECTE CU PRIVIRE LA TIPOLOGIA AŞEZĂRILOR DIN ULUCUL DEPRESIONAR DRĂGOIASA-TULGHEŞ GEORGE-BOGDAN TOFAN1 ABSTRACT. –Some Aspects Regarding Settlement Typology in Drăgoiasa-Tulgheş Depression Alignment. The emergence of rural settlements in Drăgoiasa-Tulgheş depression alignment is tightly linked to the habitation phases of the area, the main stages taking place depending on the social-economic and historical- political conditions that determined the types of settlements and their generations. The transcarpathian migration fluxes, movements due to agricultural herding and other economic, social, political and 2/2014military phenomena determined several changes in the settlements’ territorial evolution. With the emergence of the Romanian industrial revolution, the phenomenon known as swarming intensified. In the territorynr. at hand, swarmings were oriented along the main waterways of Bistricioara and Neagra, as well as their tributaries. Due to the development of wood processing as an industry, the settlements’ territorial development gained new attributes, especially at the end of the 19th century, when the development was oriented primarily along the main communication routes and at their intersections, where the technical-economicVIII, endowments created favourable conditions for a more intense productive activity. The deforestation process, started long ago, advanced, by the end of the 19th century, to the tributary valleys of the main waterways, creating large clearings, transforming the wooded massifs, at first into grazable forests, and then into pastures,AN. hayfields and land suitable for settlements. By analysing historical documents, we may conclude that the hearths of some settlements such as Păltiniş were „mother-hearths”, from which people left and created new settlements (Drăgoiasa, Glodu, Catrinari).

  • The Ethnic and Confessional Structure of Harghita County in 2011
THE ETHNIC AND CONFESSIONAL STRUCTURE OF HARGHITA COUNTY IN 2011 GEORGE-BOGDAN TOFAN 1 Abstract On 5th July 2013, the National Institute of Statistics published the final results of the 2011 Population and Household Census. Therefore, for this study, we reviewed the statistical data regarding the ethnic and confessional structure of Harghita County, mentioning the fact that, at the 2011 census, registering one’s religion and ethnicity was done based on each person’s statement. However, for those who did not wish to divulge these information, there is no available information for these two characteristics, and, in our article, these people were classified as undeclared. Consequently, when it comes to Harghita County’s ethnic structure, only 302 435 people declared their ethnicity, Romanians numbering 39 196 people (13.0%), Hungarians 257 707 people (85.2%), Gypsies or Rroma 5 326 people (1.7%), while other ethnicities comprising 206 people (0.1%). The declared confessional structure was 302 144 people, most being Roman Catholics, that is 200 663 persons (66.4%), followed by Orthodox, with 37 670 persons (12.4%), Reformed (36 760 people or 12.2%), Unitarians (21 023 people or 7.0%) and other religions, without religions and atheists (6 028 people or 2.0%). Key words : the 2011 population census, Romanians, Hungarians, the religious structure. 1. Introduction The aim of the analysis at hand is to emphasize two of the main structural indicators ( ethnicity and religion ), which offer a synthetic view on population structure ( quality ) in Harghita County (Pop, 2008). The reason behind this endeavour was that, during communism, there were several impediments in regards to studying ethnic and religious structure, as the latter was not registered prior to 1990.
