FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise announces lane closures and work zone information for construction and maintenance projects in -Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Martin St. Lucie, Okeechobee and Indian River counties, for the week beginning Sunday, August 29. Motorists should drive with caution through the work zones and adhere to posted detour signs and speed limits. Please pay special attention to the closures noted in red.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise is repainting the bridge at the northbound Florida’s Turnpike/SR 821 entrance ramp from SW 117 Avenue, over Don Shula Expressway/SR 874, in Miami-Dade County. Work will continue through late 2021. Approximate cost: $842,200.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Florida’s Turnpike/SR 821 will be widened from six to 10 lanes between Dolphin Expressway/SR 836 and Bird Road/SW 40 Street. The project entails major modifications at the Dolphin Expressway/SR 836 interchange. Work includes replacing the Coral Way/SW 24 Street bridge over Florida’s Turnpike; operational, safety and capacity improvements for motorists and pedestrians on SW 8 Street and at the SW 8 Street interchange; and minor road improvements on West Flagler Street. Additionally, sound barrier walls will be built along qualifying residential areas. Work also includes road milling and resurfacing, drainage, lighting, signage, and traffic signal improvements. Construction will continue through late 2021. Approximate cost: $135.7 million.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Florida’s Turnpike/SR 821 will be widened from six-eight lanes to 10 lanes between the Dolphin Expressway/SR 836 to NW 106 Street/Flagler Station Boulevard. The project entails converting NW 117 Avenue, between NW 34 Street and NW 41 Street, into a northbound Florida’s Turnpike entrance ramp and a slip ramp for local traffic continuing to NW 117 Avenue, north of NW 41st Street. Work consists of interchange improvements at SR 836 and NW 12 Street including the construction of three new ramps, and intersection improvements at NW 12 Street, NW 41 Street and NW 74 Street. Florida’s Turnpike bridges over SR 836/NW 12 Street, NW 25 Street, NW 41 Street, NW 58 Street, and the NW 74 Street Canal will be widened. Work also includes constructing sound walls along qualifying residential, asphalt milling and resurfacing, guardrail and fencing, lane striping, drainage, signage, and lighting improvements. Construction will continue through early 2025. Approximate cost: $245 million.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Florida’s Turnpike/SR 821 will be widened to 10 lanes between NW 106 Street/Flagler Station Boulevard and Interstate 75. The project entails constructing a new eastbound Okeechobee Road to southbound Florida’s Turnpike entrance ramp and a new northbound Florida’s Turnpike exit ramp to eastbound Okeechobee Road, as well as an additional lane in each direction on Okeechobee Road between west of the Turnpike and NW 107 Avenue. Work also consists of constructing a new diverging diamond interchange at Florida’s Turnpike and NW 170 Street. Asphalt milling and resurfacing, guardrail and fencing, lane striping, stormwater drainage, signage and lighting improvements are also included in this project. Construction will continue through late 2025. Approximate cost: $370 million.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Widening Southern Turnpike Mainline/SR 91 from two to three lanes in each direction between the Lantana Toll Plaza and the West Palm Beach Service Plaza. This project also includes reconstructing the Hypoluxo Road bridge over Southern Turnpike Mainline to allow for the new road configuration. Additionally, sound barrier walls will be constructed along qualifying residential areas. Bridge widening, road milling and resurfacing, signage and signal improvements are planned. Construction will continue through mid-2025. Approximate cost: $170 million.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Work consists of providing all labor, materials, equipment, and incidentals necessary for the conversion of Central Turnpike Mainline/SR 91 to an All-Electronic Tolling (AET) collection system from milepost 88 to milepost 236. The overall AET conversion scope includes the installation of new AET gantries on the mainline, removal of the existing mainline and existing toll plazas on the interchange ramps and addition of several new Dynamic Message Signs (DMS). Construction will continue through mid-2024. Approximate cost: $107 million.

Work is anticipated to be completed in mid-2022.
