  • Das Stift Kaufungen. Von Den Anfängen Bis Zur Reformation
    as Ritterschaftliche Stift Kaufungen ist mit Dfast 500 Jahren eine der ältesten Stiftungen in Hessen. Als sie 1532 von Landgraf Philipp dem Großmütigen begründet wurde, war sie einmalig im Heiligen Römischen Reich deutscher Nation. Der Sammelband beginnt mit einer Darstel­ lung der Geschichte des Stifts Kaufungen von einer Königspfalz über die Klostergründung Kuni­ gundes bis zur Reformation. Darauf folgt die aus­ führliche Erläuterung der Entwicklung der Alt­ hessischen Ritterschaft seit 1532 bis in die Gegen­ wart. Die heute gemeinnützige Stiftung hat über die Jahrhunderte historische Katastrophen über­ dauert. Sie überstand auch die Zeit des von Napo­ leons Bruder Jérôme regierten Königreichs West­ phalen, gegen den auch einige Mitglieder der Althessischen Ritterschaft beim sog. Dörnberg­Aufstand 1809 erfolglos revoltierten. In Kurhessen und später im Kaiserreich sowie der Weimarer Republik haben Männer aus althessischen Ritterfamilien wichtige administrative Ämter bekleidet – nicht zuletzt als Landräte. Exemplarisch portraitiert werden in diesem Buch Ludwig von Buttlar, Georg Riedesel Freiherr zu Eisenbach und Gottfried Rabe von Pappenheim. Ein besonderer Beitrag ist dem 1944 als Widerstandskämpfer hin­ gerichteten Adam von Trott zu Solz und der nach ihm benannten Stiftung und Begegnungsstätte in Imshausen gewidmet. Viele Familien der Althessischen Ritterschaft sind traditionell als Gutsbesitzer in der Land­ und Forstwirtschaft und neuerdings auch im Tourismusbereich, ins­ besondere der Event­Gastronomie tätig. Beispiele dafür sind Schloss Berlepsch, die Tannenburg und die Burg Herzberg, wo im Sommer 2018 zum 50. Mal das Burg­Herzberg­Festival Tausende Besucher anlockte. Auch die Gemeinde Kaufungen nutzt das Stift der Althessischen Ritterschaft im Rahmen ihres Kultur­ und Tourismus­Konzepts.
