The tournament marked the beginning of Florida State’s new relationship with Arvida and its new Southwood that opened in Sept. 2002. Prior to the start of the Pro-Am, FSU president Sandy D’Alemberte dedicated the Dave Middleton Golf Center. The wonderful new state-of-the-art facility houses the Professional Golf Management Program and the new pro shop. In addi- tion the facility includes a brand new clubhouse, locker rooms and a restaurant and grill. A clinic for junior golfers was held this morning before the kickoff of the football game. 32 •Men’s Golf All-Americans Men’s Golf Media Guide NCAA Championships Florida State has earned a great deal of success in the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship during the illustrious history of the Seminole program. The Seminoles competed in the event four times during the decade of the 1990’s and have finished in the top-10 three times since 1985. The Seminoles finished in a program best seventh place at the 1987 and 1995 NCAA Championships. The Seminoles’ 1995 team finish of seventh place was a mere six strokes behind sixth-place California. Ken Staton, who finished tied for 14th in the individual standings with a four-round total of 289, led Florida State. George McNeil and Richard Fulford finished tied for 29th with respective four round totals of 293. Christian Raynor finished in a tie for 35th which Dennis Tymosko finished 78th. Staton (honorable mention) and Raynor (second-team) both earned All-America honors for the Seminoles. The Seminoles also finished seventh at the 1987 champi- onships. Nolan Henke, the Seminoles only three-time All- American, finished tied for second in the individual stand- Roger Winchester played on Florida State’s 1987 NCAA ings.
