March 2020 Parish Council - Hauxton.Net Hauxton News- March 2020 Parish Council - hauxton.net Coronavirus No-one knows quite how the new coronavirus is going to affect the UK in the coming weeks and months. However, it is expected that the virus will continue to spread. One key element in limiting the spread and impact of the virus will be for people who may have the virus (or who may be at particular risk) to “self-isolate”. This involves staying at home, avoiding face to face contact with other people, and contacting 111 only if you become unwell and cannot get help online. www.nhs.uk for up to date information. So, what can we do to help minimise the impact of coronavirus? 1. Wash hands thoroughly and regularly 2. Stay at home if you have either: a high temperature or a new continuous cough. 3. Do not go to your GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital. Use the NHS 11 online coronavirus service if you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home; your condition gets worse or your symptoms do not get better after 7 days. For some of us, self-isolation may cause practical problems – how will we access food, toiletries, medicines, and so on, if we are not comfortable with online services and do not have family nearby? This is where we have come together as a community, to make sure that no-one has to choose between surviving on inadequate supplies, and going out and exposing other people to the virus. Below is a list of village people who are happy to be contacted if you need help with collecting medicines, help with shopping, just need a friendly phone call, or need help accessing the additional local services indicated below. Just give them a call. Harston Post Office/shop have kindly offered to deliver shopping to people if they are ill or need to self isolate. Just call the shop and they’ll take your order and deliver it to you. Tel: 01223 870758. Thank you Dal and team. Camcab TAXI are also offering a service for over 70 yr olds in need of groceries. They will transfer your groceries from the supermarket to your doorstep. This service is free of charge. Tel: 01223 704704 Barker Bros Butchers, Shelford. If you are vulnerable, ill or over 70, they can offer you free delivery within a 5 mile radius for any of their meats, fruit, vegetables, juices, baguettes and deli goods. Tel: 01223 843292 so they can take your order and payment for the goods along with your full address, contact details and let them know if you are self isolating or have symptoms in order to protect their staff.. They will happily leave goods by your door. PillSorted – personal pharmacy. Your medications delivered to your door. https://pillsorted.com Tel: 01223 643550 Village Hall – ‘Hauxton Centre’ After all these years the construction of our new hall is well underway. Due to a mild winter and very few frosts the builders were able to pour the concrete and begin the brickwork in January and at the moment are working slightly ahead of schedule. The roof is due to go on in the next couple of weeks. The name, ‘Hauxton Centre’ has been chosen to reflect the desire that the new, much larger building will become the centre of village activities. The large room is able to seat 150 people but can be divided with a sound proof partition to make two rooms. One room 10m by 10m and the smaller one 10m by 7m. There is also a meeting room which will seat 20 people and then a small reading area/self-service library and of course a café which I know many people are looking forward to. An online booking system is now in operation for booking rooms in the present Village Hall up to the end of July and bookings from 1st August onwards in the new Centre. For more details see the village hall pages of www.hauxton.net The Digging Out Ceremony Past Chairpersons and present members of the Parish Council and Village Hall Committee met at the beginning of December on this auspicious occasion to celebrate the commencement of the first ever purpose-built Village Hall in Hauxton. We need people to volunteer their skills to get the new Hauxton Centre ready to open. We need a few hours of your time to help with... Raising funds, however small The Village Hall Committee is small and at work capacity. Please offer your help to get this fantastic facility up and running by contacting [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Thank you! Sports Pavilion The changing facilities at the sports ground are nearing completion and should be ready for the new cricket season starting at the beginning of May. Junior (under 12 years) cricket will be played on the Sport England funded 8 pitch cricket square this year on weekday evenings and Sundays following an agreement reached with Great Shelford Cricket Club, who have a number of youngsters from Hauxton who play for them. This will enable the new pitches to bed in and hopefully lead to wider age groups playing in future years. If anyone would like more information please contact the Clerk. Many thanks to our willing volunteers Ray, Gary and John who have been managing the pitch over the last year. Hauxton Tennis The new annual subscription period starts on 1 April. Tennis coaching starts after Easter every Wednesday from 22 April with sessions lasting for 5 weeks. These will be available for Mini Groups age 3 to 6 years, from 4.30pm to 5.15pm, Juniors age 7 to 10 years - from 5.15pm to 6.00pm, and Adults - from 6pm to 7pm. For more information go to www.hauxton.net/tennis. And don’t forget first timers under the age of 12 years can join free. Recreation Ground Please note that the play equipment is still accessible to everyone, the entrance being on the right hand side of the building works. The PC have put a notice on the post leading into the recreation ground asking people to please keep dogs on leads and clean up after their dogs. Unfortunately, there are still a few individuals who are totally disregarding these rules. It would be a great shame if we had to ban dogs altogether because of a minority who blatantly ignore the signs. On a more cheerful note, those of you who have been down there will have noticed that the PC have had the outside of the fenced area paved, hopefully this will act as a barrier between the grassed area and the fence and prevent the encroachment of the grass into the sandpit. National Lottery Funding Awards for All A huge thank you to Caroline Ruben and John Hammond on their successful application for the £10,000 funding for tables and chairs for the new hall. A thank you also to all those National Lottery players for their support as it’s thanks to them that £500 million is given out to charities, community and voluntary groups each year and we are one of the lucky receivers of some of this funding. Hauxton Meadows Redrow have now installed a notice board on the new play area so that we can keep you informed as to what is happening in the village and on the sports ground. Please contact me if you would like to put a poster on the board. Another reminder that the wood which is situated behind Arnold Close at Hauxton Meadows is private land and dogs and their owners should not walk in there. Also, please do not let your dogs run wild over the field between the Church and the first gate to the left of the public footpath as this is also private land. If the dogs are unable to walk to heel then please keep them on a lead until you pass through the second gate. Thank you. Widening the footpath on Church Rd PC Chair met with our County Councillor and Highways a few weeks ago and they have agreed to widen the footpath form the speed sign to the Church where it is particularly narrow and also resurface up to the first driveway past the church. They hope to commence the work in the new financial year so we could be looking at the work beginning in several months’ time, fingers crossed! We did ask for more paths to be resurfaced in the village but were informed that there are more important issues elsewhere in the county to be dealt with. I did try!! St Edmund’s Church Coffee Mornings: In view of the current situation and government direction, the Easter coffee morning planned for Saturday 4 April has been cancelled. Notices will advertise when coffee mornings will resume, hopefully later in the summer. Concert: A concert with Rhys Wilson (Folk and Easy Listening) was to have been held in Hauxton Village Hall on Saturday 2nd May 2020 at 7.30 p.m. In view of the evolving situation with Coronavirus, we anticipate that this concert will probably be postponed until later in the year. Look out for further information. Rosemary Edridge Carols on the Green & Quiz Night It certainly rained all Friday creating a huge puddle which was more like a swimming pool in the car park.

This proposal seeks outline permission (access only for approval) for a residential development of up to 30 dwellings on a greenfield site within the countryside, outside the designated Development Framework of an infill village as identified in the adopted and emerging plans and adjacent to the Green Belt. The development would not normally be considered acceptable in principle when set against current adopted policy as a result of its scale and location. However, the district does not currently have a 5 year housing land supply and therefore the adopted LDF policies in relation to the supply of housing are not up to date for the purposes of the NPPF. However, the Local Planning Authority must still determine the weight to be applied to the policies even when out of date.

TRUMPINGTON HISTORY TRAILS Trumpington to Hauxton and the Shelfords Local Villages and the River Granta 7 Walk or cycle approximately 6.5 miles/10.5 km walk on pavements and footpaths, including grass paths which can be muddy, but there are tarmac alternatives; cycle on roads and dual use paths. Return route can be combined with Trail 8 1. Start at the green by the shops, Anstey Way Go along Anstey Way to the High Street, turn left to the pedestrian crossing, cross the road and continue left along Hauxton Road past the Park & Ride site. Stop at the milestone just before the Addenbrooke’s Road junction (Trail 3). 2. Turnpike milestone III, 1729 The milestone is the third in a series erected by Trinity Hall along the turnpike from Cambridge to Barkway. ‘Cambridge’ was removed during World War II and recut later; and the date below ‘AD’ was lost when the stone was damaged by a vehicle (‘MDCCXXIX’, 1729). The milestone was renovated in 2011 when the road was realigned. Go on to the junction and take the cycle path to the right. Now part of the Trumpington Meadows development, the area to the left was a Prisoner of War Camp in World War II (Trail 3). Continue to the left turn. 3. Anstey Hall Farm Shepherd’s Cottage When Trumpington parish was enclosed in 1804- 09, most of the field between Hauxton Road and the river was awarded to Christopher Anstey. It had been known as Hauxton Field or Church Field. It became Anstey Hall Farm, which was taken over by the Plant Breeding Institute in 1950 (Trail 3), although the tenant (the Parsons family) continued to farm most of the land until 1971.

  • South Cambridgeshire District Council – Harston & Comberton Ward
South Cambridgeshire District Council – Harston & Comberton Ward Report to Hauxton Parish Council November 2020 Covid 19 The council will soon be working with other councils to operate a local system of test and trace. Details are still being worked up but it should go 'live' later this month and Environmental Health officers will be working within a rota with officers from the other authorities in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. The decision by the government not to extend free school meals outside of term to eligible children has prompted a number of initiatives in the district, both raising money and donating meals. In case the government’s position on this remain unchanged, SCDC is in talks with the County Council and other District Councils with a view to providing more support for hungry children during the Christmas break. During the lockdown earlier in the year, people were less inclined to contact their GP with non-Covid matters and hospitals prepared for the expected rise in Covid patients by emptying their wards to make space. A side-effect of this has been a rise is the number of people needing treatment now for acute illnesses. Local hospitals report that, as a result, they are nearly at capacity treating patients who are too ill to be discharged as well as having to treat a rising number of severe cases of Covid-19. Since they will be unable to empty their wards as they did in the spring, if Covid case numbers rise significantly as expected. This has been a major driver for the second lockdown.
