Press Clips October 12, 2013 Sabres-Blackhawks Preview by Nicolino Dibenedetto Associated Press October 12, 2013
Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips October 12, 2013 Sabres-Blackhawks Preview By Nicolino DiBenedetto Associated Press October 12, 2013 The Buffalo Sabres are off to their worst start in 14 years. Facing the reigning Stanley Cup champions on the road isn't likely to change that. The Sabres attempt to avoid a sixth straight defeat Saturday night when they meet the Chicago Blackhawks. Buffalo (0-4-1) hasn't endured a worst start to a season since going 0-5-2 to begin 1999-2000. The Sabres have shown few signs of ending their struggles, getting outscored 14-5 while going 2 for 18 on the power play. "We have guys in here that can make plays," goaltender Ryan Miller said. "We just have to get past this little hump we're having trouble with and you can't just work hard, get a puck and not do anything with it. We have to start doing things with it." Buffalo didn't do much Thursday, giving up three first-period goals in a 4-1 home loss to Columbus. Thomas Vanek and Cody Hodgson have been among the few offensive bright spots with four points each over the past three games. Those two have combined for eight of the team's 13 points this season. Vanek, the captain for home games, had team highs of 20 goals and 41 points in 38 games last season. He's been limited to two assists in four career visits to Chicago. Hodgson has four points in four meetings with the Blackhawks, who have won three straight games versus Buffalo, including the last two at the United Center. -
Press Clips October 2, 2013 Youthful Sabres Open in Detroit Wednesday Associated Press October 1, 2013
Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips October 2, 2013 Youthful Sabres open in Detroit Wednesday Associated Press October 1, 2013 Sabres coach Ron Rolston is reminded of the changes taking place in downtown Buffalo every day he heads into work. There’s a construction site across the street from the team’s arena, where Sabres owner Terry Pegula’s HarborCenter hotel and entertainment complex is being erected. Then there’s the major overhaul the Sabres themselves have been undergoing over the past eight months. They’re both works in progress, and also reflect the potential of a brighter future in Buffalo. “I would say it’s a good correlation and analogy,” Rolston said. “It’s both out front and in the arena.” Rolston is part of the Sabres’ transformation in replacing longtime coach Lindy Ruff, who was fired in February. The changes didn’t end there during what became a tumultuous, lockout- shortened season that ended with Buffalo missing the playoffs for the fourth time in six years. Before the season was over, the Sabres purged much of their old guard — including captain Jason Pominville — as part of a youth movement to shake up what had been an aging, high-priced and under-achieving core. And more changes could still be store, with goalie Ryan Miller and forward Thomas Vanek’s futures uncertain beyond this season. Both are entering the final years of their contracts, and the Sabres haven’t ruled out trading one or both. That’s left Rolston tempering his early expectations of an opening-day roster that could feature as many as seven rookies, including 18-year-old defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen. -

Daily Press Clips January 7, 2017
Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips January 7, 2017 Bruins beat Sabres 3-1 on Bergeron, Schaller goals By Ken Powtak Associated Press December 31, 2016 BOSTON (AP) — A fast start and another solid outing by goaltender Tuukka Rask made for a fairly easy afternoon for the Boston Bruins. Patrice Bergeron and Tim Schaller scored second-period goals Saturday to help the Bruins beat Buffalo 3-1 and complete a sweep of home-and-home games against the struggling Sabres. "We played much better — better start," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "We were playing with the lead, which makes a big difference. In the third period we played smart." The victory also gave Boston a sweep of its four-game season series against the Sabres. Buffalo was the only team the Bruins had never swept during a regular season. Buffalo lost 4-2 at home to Boston on Thursday. Boston opened a 3-0 lead and Rask took care of the rest. He made 26 saves. "It's something we've talked about," Rask said. "We want to get that first goal more often. I thought we came out really strong today — like we wanted to. It paid off today. It's something we have to do more often." On Thursday, the Bruins fell behind 2-0 in the opening period. Frank Vatrano scored the other goal for Boston, which had lost five of its previous nine games but improved to 12-1-2 in the last 15 meetings against the Sabres. Jack Eichel, a former Boston University star and Hobey Baker winner, scored for Buffalo. -
Daily Press Clips February 26, 2015
Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips February 26, 2015 NHL fines Sabres goalie Neuvirth for diving vs. Predators Associated Press February 25, 2015 BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The NHL has fined Buffalo Sabres goalie Michal Neuvirth $2,000 for diving and embellishment after drawing a penalty in a game against the Nashville Predators last weekend. The disciplinary action announced on Wednesday was a second offense for Neuvirth. The first offense merited a warning, and occurred during a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Nov. 15. Fines increase with each instance up to $5,000 following a fifth offense. The punishment came after the league's Hockey Operations Department reviewed an interference penalty called against Nashville's Mike Santorelli early in the second period of the Predators' 2-1 shootout win. In a separate move, Buffalo returned rookie defenseman Jake McCabe to AHL Rochester. The Sabres had the day off, and host Vancouver on Thursday. Canucks-Sabres preview Associated Press February 25, 2015 Buffalo will have to wait until next season to welcome Ryan Miller back to town. It might also be that long before Sabres All-Star Zemgus Girgensons sees the ice again. With both injured, Miller's surging Vancouver Canucks look to conclude an already successful five-game trip with a third straight victory Thursday night against Buffalo. Miller made 20 saves in a 5-2 win over the Sabres (18-38-5) on Jan. 30, but won't be available in his first trip to Buffalo since the club traded him to St. Louis one year ago Sunday. -
