BIBLE STUDY OUTLINE THEME: IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST SUB-THEME: Attributes of Jesus Christ (10) TOPIC: Omniscience TEXTS: Matthew 9:4-5; John 2: 24-25

AIMS: i. To discover the mysteries and magnitude of the knowledge of Jesus and ii. To experience the acknowledgment of Jesus’ omniscience by His followers.

INTRODUCTION: Omniscience is a theological term that refers to God’s superior universal knowledge and wisdom. God knows everything from eternity past to eternity future simultaneously without consulting anyone for knowledge or understanding. (Psalm. 139: 1-6) The Texts today reveal Jesus Christ as omniscient. This study shall further show how the disciples acknowledged the omniscience of Jesus Christ.

STUDY GUIDE: 1. Explain the word “Omni-science” and what we mean when we say God is Omniscient? Psalm. 139: 1-6; 147: 4-5; Isa. 40:26; Matt. 10: 30?

2. How did Jesus manifest the omniscience of God on earth? Matt 9:4-5; Mark 2:8; John 2:24-25; 6:64.

3. What are the mysteries and magnitude of the omniscience of Jesus? John 4: 16-19, 28- 29; 10: 14-16.

4. In what ways did the early Apostles acknowledge the omniscience of Jesus Christ? John 16:30; Acts 1: 24-25; 1 Cor. 4: 5.

CONCLUSION: No human being on earth had ever displayed the omniscience of God as our Lord Jesus Christ who knows all things from the beginning of the age till the end of the age. To Him we should commit our souls and spirits.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: The thought of Judas Iscariot were never hidden from Jesus Christ.

MEMORY VERSE: John 16:30 “Now we are sure that You know all things, and have no need that anyone should question You. By this we believe that You came forth from God.

SPIRITUAL TONIC FOR THE WEEK HEBREWS 6:10

“God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love that you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them.

My Father in heaven, thank You for Your faithfulness. You are not unmindful of my labour of love in Your household. Today I pray, reward me according to what I have done in Your service, particularly to Your people in the Body of Christ. Every obstacle blocking my reward is removed in Jesus name. This month and beyond I refuse to become indifferent, faithless and stagnant in Your service. I receive grace to serve You more in full assurance of Your faithfulness and unfailing love. In Jesus’ mighty name I pray. Amen.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE A sawmill worker dropped a quarter, bent over to pick it up, and accidentally got an ear cut off by the circular blade. His hollering drew a crowd of co-workers. Together, they started searching the sawdust for his severed ear. After a minute one of the searchers came up with an ear and handed it to the injured man. He examined it carefully then tossed it away. “That ain’t it,” he said, resuming his probe. “My ear has a pencil behind it.”

THY KINGDOM COME, O LORD - A&MRW 816 Tune: St. Cecilia

1. Thy kingdom come, O God, 4 thy rule, O Christ, begin; We pray thee, Lord, arise, break with thine iron rod and come in thy great might; the tyrannies of sin. revive our longing eyes, which languish for thy sight. 2 Where is thy reign of peace 5 and purity and love? Men scorn thy sacred name, When shall all hatred cease, and wolves devour thy fold; as in the realms above? by many deeds of shame we learn that love grows cold.

3 When comes the promised time 6 that war shall be no more, O’er lands both near and far and lust, oppression, crime thick darkness broodeth yet: shall flee thy face before? arise, O Morning Star, arise, and never set!

SOUL FOOD 27/2020

“Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.” - Jude 3

Christian faith has always been under attacks both from within and from without since inception. The various attempts made by individuals, systems, and empires, to either muffle it or distort its truth are on record in the Scripture and in extra biblical accounts. The attacks were intense that the Church needed reawakening to salvage the Gospel from being trampled underfoot, one of such calls is Jude’s admonition in verse 3 of his writing, he says: “… I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.” Jude urges his readers to contend for the faith against those who seek to undermine and erode it.

Regrettably, the status quo has remained the same in our time. Satan has consistently and subtly corrupted the message of the Gospel and the method of its presentation, that it no longer produces true and lasting conversions. The modern gospel message is now couched in “sinner-friendly terms” as many of its handlers – preachers and other believers - are becoming increasingly apathetic toward the truth advanced by the Gospel message, because of their compromise with the world. Stealthily, this is taking its toll on the Church as large number of its membership are simply not saved. They are products of a diluted, distorted, and damaged gospel. They have been deluded into thinking that they have accepted Christ as their Saviour, but their lives plainly show that they are still miles away from what it means to be saved.

As citizens of the kingdom of God we are tasked to contend for the faith. Jude says in verse 4 that this is important because “certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.”

Explaining what it means to contend, Jude says in verses 22–23, “And convince some, who doubt; save some, by snatching them out of the fire; on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.” This gives us a two-pronged approach to defending the Gospel. One, is the spirit motivated intellectual effort to change the thinking of those who are in error, and the other is the moral reclamation of the strayed i.e. going after them into the mess where their perverse ideas have taken them and snatch them back to safety.

To stress the import of this assignment, several other verses in the New Testament reinforce Jude’s call to contend for the faith. Paul charges Timothy to “fight the good fight of faith” as a soldier of God in pursuit of holy living, persistent service, and defending the gospel (1 Timothy 6:11–21). To the Philippian church, Paul writes, “Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the Gospel” (Philippians 1:27). Peter says, “Be prepared to make a defence to anyone who calls you to account for the hope that is in you yet do it with gentleness and reverence” (1 Peter 3:15).

Let us stand up for the Gospel and save it from the hands of polluters in different guises. Let us desist from blending with the tide. Let us in word and deed demonstrate the power of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Contending for the faith is another means of physical manifestation of the kingdom of God. The Collect for this week affirms that God shows to those in error the light of His truth to bring them to the way of righteousness. We are responsible to be His representatives. We are His ambassadors commissioned to give testimony to the person and work of the Saviour by proclaiming and remaining faithful to the Gospel.

Have a blessed week!
