Cycle of Intercessions 31St March 2020 to Christ the King DIOCESE OF SWANSEA AND BRECON ESGOBAETH ABERTAWE AC ABERHONDDU Cycle of Intercessions 31st March 2020 to Christ the King EDITOR’S NOTES Cycle of Prayer Each day has been divided into two sections: 1. The Diocesan Cycle 2. The Anglican Cycle Each Ministry Area has been allocated a particular week. The Ministry Area Leader, clergy, lay ministers and any schools within a Ministry Area are prayed for during that week. Where there is space, Provincial or Diocesan intentions are mentioned. When it is the turn of your Ministry Area to be prayed for, please pray, that day, for the work of the Cathedral as your mother church. This Cycle of Prayer is intended to be used together with the Ecumenical Prayer Cycle “With All God’s People”, published by the World Council of Churches also with the Porvoo Communion Invitation to Prayer which can be found on the Church in Wales website. However, they are not meant to be followed rigidly - in times of need appropriate prayers should be substituted. Copies An electronic copy of the Cycle of Prayer is available on the Diocesan Website. Further hard copies are ONLY available from both Diocesan Resource Centres. Proofing This text has been checked by the Diocesan Office. However, any errors or omissions in the text are my responsibility and I apologise in advance. If there are any additions you would like to see in this cycle then please contact me. Communication Communication with the editor can be made by email to [email protected] Copies An electronic copy of the Cycle of Prayer is available on the Diocesan Website. Further hard copies are ONLY available from both Diocesan Resource Centres. This booklet has been compiled in conjunction with THE ANGLICAN CYCLE OF PRAYER 2020 This lists all Dioceses in every part. of the world. It is only available on ‘The Anglican Communion Official Website’ at: www.anglicancommunion.org/acp/ Liturgical Each day is presented with the date, day and the Sunday Title or Saints/Feast Day taken from The Church in Wales Lectionary produced by The Church in Wales/Yr Eglwys yng Nghymru. If a minor saint’s day falls on a Sunday then it is not observed, unless it is your Feast of Title or Dedication, in which case it may take precedence over a Sunday in Ordinary Time. Otherwise it may be celebrated on the next available feria day. Liturgical colours are indicated for Sundays and major holy days, reflecting widespread usage, but local custom may be followed if preferred. This cycle of prayer should be used in conjunction with The Church in Wales Lectionary, copies of which are available from Churches Together Bookshop, City Church, Windsor Place, Cardiff, CF10 3BZ. CHAPTER ONE GENERAL INTRODUCTION 1.0 Background to the Study Acts of conflict and violence occur daily in different parts of the world. This is due to a variety of motives, which include political fanaticism, ethnic hatred, religious extremism and ideological differences. Conflict is perennial and an ingredient towards the actualization of individual and group interests. According to S.A. Ayinla, it is a natural announcement of an impending re-classification of a society with changed characteristics and goals and with new circumstances of survival and continuity1. Conflict is a universal human experience. Its origin and nature are best explained within the framework of human nature and environment in which man lives2.Conflicts and violence are common factors in both secular and sacred institutions. In spite of the fact that the church is believed to be a holy institution ordained by God, she has never at any time outgrown conflicts and violence. This is due to the fact that, the affairs of the church are administered by human beings who are not always perfect or faultless. By 1975, the Warri Diocese, Anglican Communion, had not existed as a corporate Christian entity. But by the year 2000, the Diocese had existed for over twenty years and had given birth to two other Dioceses, viz; Ughelli and Oleh (Isoko) Dioceses.

  • Calendar of Intercessions Michaelmas – Advent 2017
Calendar of Intercessions Michaelmas – Advent 2017 to this edition of the prayer diary, following the Feast St Michael and All Angels until the first Sunday of Advent. There are now two Rochester cycles of prayer – ‘parishes’ and ‘extra- Welcome parochial’. This is an attempt to be a little more even handed with the additional groups who are prayed for as the year turns, and to include our church schools in our prayers. As usual, it’s a sizable document but designed to be quick and clear to read, and also to leave space for your own notes. Of course, you do not have to print it all out at once, and you’re welcome to reformat it, if you wish (a Word version is available from my blog, see website below). Sunday entries are designed to look at some of the bigger pictures in our Diocese – sometimes geographical (deaneries, archdeaconries, link dioceses) sometimes issues or activities (Vocations Sunday). If there is an aspect of diocesan life that you’d like included on a Sunday, do let me know. These are followed through the week by daily prayers from all over the diocese, and across the Anglican Communion, including the calendar of saints and other worthy people. Finally, there is space in the daily entries for you to note any prayer requests that have been made to you or your parish, or any special interests you want to remember in your prayers. Please contact me with any comments or suggestions – [email protected] or 01634 814439. I will also be pleased to provide large print copies to any who would find that helpful.

  • Church in Wales Review July 2012
Church in Wales Review July 2012 The September 2010 meeting of the Governing Body was notable for the number of contributions from members with a common message: “The Church in Wales cannot go on doing the same things in the same way; some things need to change and we are open to – and indeed encourage – that possibility”. The Standing Committee and Bench of Bishops responded to this call by appointing an external review of the Church, with particular reference to its structures and use of resources, to increase the effectiveness of the Church’s ministry and witness. The Review Group’s members are prominent thinkers with a blend of experience in dealing with matters ecclesiastical and organisational: Lord Harries of Pentregarth, the former Bishop of Oxford; Professor Charles Handy, the eminent writer and adviser on business and organisational theory (and son of a Church of Ireland archdeacon); and Professor Patricia Peattie, former Convenor of the Scottish Episcopal Church’s Standing Committee and the first chairwoman of the Lothian University Hospitals NHS Trust. The aim was to commission a review that could move quickly to gather and assimilate information about the state of the Church in Wales, then provide independent advice on how the Church might reshape itself to be more effective in the twenty-first century. Given the extent of its members’ other commitments, the Review Group has pursued its task with extraordinary vigour and dedication. The Group determined its own approach and programme. It has visited every diocese in Wales, meeting with the Bishop and Diocesan team in each and holding an open meeting for Church members to express their views.

  • The Role of Arch-Bishop L. Brown in the Establishment of the Church of the Province of Uganda. Leslie Wilfrid Brown Lived Betwee
The role of Arch-Bishop L. Brown in the establishment of the church of the province of Uganda. Leslie Wilfrid Brown lived between 10th June 1912 and 27th December 1999. He was Bishop then Archbishop of Uganda before returning to England to be Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich1. Brown was educated at Enfield Grammar School before studying for ordination at the London College of Divinity. He was ordained priest by the Bishop of Portsmouth in 19362. After a curacy at St James, Milton, Portsmouth he went out to the Diocese of Travancore and Cochin on the Malabar coast of India in January 1938, working there for the Church Missionary Society, and eventually becoming Principal of the Kerala United Theological Seminary3. In 1952 he accepted the post of Bishop of Uganda, despite having doubts because of his support for indigenization. Upon his appointment, the then Mukama of Bunyoro congratulated him with these words; “It has been much pleasure to hear that you have been appointed as a bishop of Uganda instead of Bishop Stuart who has done a big job for Uganda. I trust you, as well as he has done, will energetically serve the Church in Uganda successfully…..”4 In regard to the above letter, apart from the Mukama of Bunyoro a number of very important people including Muteesa of Buganda congratulated him and were willing to welcome him and ready to serve with him as Bishop. Muteesa as well had this to say; “I assure you of a very warm welcome and cooperation of us all, on your arrival”5 1 Available on; Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leslie_Brown_%28bishop%29 , accessed on 27/02/14 2 Accessed from the UCU Archives, George Cicestr, letter responding to the questioning of the appointment of Rev.
