We knew the first issue was a hard act to follow, so this felt a little like the perverbial ‘follow up album’. We once again need to thank all our lovely contributers and Mar 2011 assistance such as the tireless Chris Bennion (go find a comfy sofa to read it), Andy O’Hare and Ralph Tittley, all of whom provide valuable content for us, the others know who they are... In this issue there is plenty of advice and food for Slap Magazine thought for new, up and coming acts with ‘Top Tips’ from Unit 3E, Shrub Hill Industrial Estate, Andy, advice on ‘getting noticed’ by Chris as well as an Worcester WR4 9EL interesting feature on the ‘Social Media Revolution’.

  • The Purple Shades
BONEYARD PROMOTIONS THE PURPLE SHADES THE NEW SINGLE ‘BLUNDER’ – OUT NOW ANNOUNCE DEBUT EP “KINGS OF SUMMER” ***Listen and Download Here*** SPOTIFY \ BANDCAMP \ SOUNDCLOUD \ FACEBOOK \ TWITTER IMPACT DATE: 12TH JULY LABEL: SELF-RELEASED “A high energy performance from a band with more musical instruments than you can shake a drumstick at!” – Andrew Marston on BBC Introducing in Hereford & Worcester Worcester’s The Purple Shades have just self-released their new single ‘Blunder’, the last track to come from their forthcoming EP, Kings Of Summer, which is set for release later this summer. The track continues to display the band’s already concrete style, sharing the guitar-driven pace, the intrigue and the anthemic tone as their last single ’21.2’ which also appears on the EP. On the upcoming EP frontman Dylan says “Kings Of Summer is a concept EP playing on the idea of growing up and not being particularly happy about it, so looking at the past through rose-tinted spectacles” He adds “’Blunder’ is the perfect first single for the EP with the opening line “This morning we had our lives ahead of us” setting the tone for the whole release, and by the end of the song we come full circle and start accepting the smaller things in life” They have had lots of support from BBC Introducing’s Andrew Marston who featured them on his show after recording a live session with them, and he put them forward to play on the BBC Introducing Stage at LakeFest 2018. The Purple Shades are Dylan Boddy (vocals/guitar), Charlie Brooks (bass), George Bowles (guitar/vocals/keys), Luke Rhodes (guitar) and Sam Hennerley (drums).

Its difficult to know where to start as we reflect on the mad month of August. In this issue we take a look back at Nozstock, Loaded, Green Man, Malvern Rocks & Bulldog Bash with fond if not somewhat blurred memories. The bank holiday weekend found Slap involved in the best WMF to date. The place was buzzing as hundreds of Sep 20 12 original acts rolled into town to entertain and enjoy the festival. Attendances surpassed expectation with many venues reporting record breaking figures. The Slap stage on the Sunday at Cafe Bliss and the Arts Workshop was no exception. All the acts, handpicked by ourselves, SLAP MAGAZINE played to a bursting garden in the afternoon followed by Unit 3E, Shrub Hill Industrial Estate, a raucous evening session in the theatre downstairs. We will be bringing you all the highlights of ‘Super Slap Worcester WR4 9EL Sunday’ in our next issue.

  • May 2013 FREE
Issue 26 May 2013 FREE SLAP Supporting Local Arts & Performers Hello folks, its spring at last, or at least it felt like it for an hour or two the other day... It did, however, put me in the mood for the upcoming festival season. Starting with The Blue Dragon Beer and Music Festival, which marks the ‘end of the lane’ (see page 9). A sad occasion in many respects, but with live music and even livelier cider (trust me, I was there last year), its a chance for the Worcester City FC Supporters Trust to raise a glass, awareness and cash May 2013 in their quest for a swift return for our local football club to a new stadium in the City. So get yourselves down to St. Georges Lane one last time. Other local festivals in the merry month of May SLAP MAGAZINE include The Lechlade Music Festival and Wychwood Unit 8, Lowesmoor Wharf, Festival (pages 29 & 35), so plenty to look forward to! Worcester WR1 2RS Telephone: 01905 26660 On the Arts scene it’s great to see even more local [email protected] collaboration with Kidderminster’s Boars Head Gallery For advertising enquiries, please contact: handing over the 12” baton of the Art Amnesty Paul Robinson on 07852 247 970 exhibition to Worcester. Inspired, as we were, we used [email protected] their official poster for our Slap front cover this month. EDITORIAL Mark Hogan Go see it in the flesh throughout May at the Arts CONTRIBUTORS Andy O’Hare Workshop. Kate Cox Looking back on April we had our first Slap Night of Jake Umbridge the year, hosting East Midlands Hallouminati and local Steven Glazzard Ant Robbins folk pirates The Whipjacks.
