“Sometimes Walks the Sea”

1) Sometimes Jesus walks the sea to save us Sometimes Jesus walks the road by your side Either way it’s not the avenue that matters It’s the fact that He finds you when you’re lost… lost in the night

2) Sometimes Jesus comes in ways you least expected Sometimes Jesus comes in ways you thought He would Either way it’s not the avenue He chooses It’s the fact that He loves you and He works… works what is good

Chorus You can take the road that keeps on winding even higher You can take the path that’s all unknown You can face today for the One who holds forever Gives the promise that you are not alone

3) Sometimes Jesus opens doors to guide us Sometimes Jesus closes doors with His own hand Either way it’s not the doors that really matter It’s the fact that He’s given us a part… part in His plan

Call to Worship Leader: For those who first went out into the early dawn, when the sky was grey, taking spices to the tomb, there was terror, and surprise.

People: For us, resisting the impulse to sleep in as part of another weekend at the Jersey Shore, and being overly-familiar with the Easter story... there is the risk of complacency.

Leader: So let us open ourselves to the astounding possibility that life can break out at any moment!. People: Let us challenge the thought that we have planned the future so efficiently that there will be no surprises!

Leader: Let us face the fact that the walls of this Pavilion the walls of any church, and the "life" of our institution cannot entirely contain the Way, the Truth, and the Life of Jesus Christ!

People: Let us celebrate the irrepressible power of God breaking out with abundant life where and when we least expect it!

Paraphrased from : Anne Siddall by gsriv “Where I Belong”

Sometimes it feels like I'm watching from the outside Sometimes it feels like I'm breathing but am I alive I won't keep searching for answers that aren't here to find

Chorus All I know is I'm not home yet This is not where I belong Take this world and give me Jesus This is not where I belong

So when the walls come falling down on me And when I'm lost in the current of a raging sea I have this blessed assurance holding me

Chorus

bridge When the earth shakes I want to be found in You When the lights fade I want to be found in You

Antiphonal Liturgy

Leader: Lord… we thought you were dead. People: We thought the cross was the end.

Leader: We thought when the stone rolled over the tomb , that was it. People: But this is it… the dead are living!

Leader: The cross is empty! People: The stone is rolled, and one word describes it all: Alleluia!

Leader: Savior…we thought You had said Your final word. People: We thought those with power had won.

Leader: We thought that when You cried out, that was it. People: But this is it:… the Word breathes!

Leader: The powers are defeated! People: The final cry was only the beginning, and one word says it all: Alleluia!

Leader: We thought the story was finished. People: We thought the hope had ended.

Leader: We thought that when the tomb was sealed, that was it. People: But this is it: the story had just begun!

Leader: The hope is newly born! People: The tomb is empty, Jesus is risen!

Leader: And one word says it all... People: Alleluia! Leader: We thought that when they crucified You, death had defeated life, and that was it. People: But this is it: Love is stronger than death! Christ is risen!

Leader: And one word says it all... People: Alleluia!

1) Hallelujah! Glory to God, Thy will be done!

2) Who can utter the mighty acts of the Lord?

3) Who can declare all His praises?

4) Remember me, O Lord with the favor You have toward Your people O visit me with Your salvation with Your salvation

The grave clothes being folded. The body rising. Like a whispered "Alleluia" in the stillness of the dawn but it was real. People: Did we hear it? The ' muffled laughter as the women reached the tomb. The dawn breaks over the garden revealing footprints in the dew. The mountains bow in slow grandeur just out the corner of our eyes. Like something shifting at the edge of our sight. But it is real.

Leader: Did you hear it? The world holding it’s breath. The stars hesitating. The sun lingering. Creation filling it’s lungs. The air and the seas swell. People: So that the whole earth can proclaim: Christ is risen!

Leader: Here we celebrate another Resurrection Sunday!

People: So that we can proclaim: Christ is risen!

Paraphrased from :Roddy Hamilton by gsriv “Christ Is Risen” 1) Let no one caught in sin remain inside the lie of inward shame But fix our eyes upon the cross and run to Him who showed great love and bled for us Freely You've bled for us

Chorus Christ is risen from the dead Trampling over death by death Come awake Come awake Come and rise up from the grave Christ is risen from the dead We are one with Him again Come awake Come awake Come and rise up from the grave

2) Beneath the weight of all our sin You bowed to none but heaven's will No scheme of hell no scoffer's crown No burden great can hold You down in strength You reign Forever let Your church proclaim

Chorus bridge O death where is your sting? O hell where is your victory? O church come stand in the light The glory of God has defeated the night (Singing) O death where is your sting? “An Encounter With Jesus: Mary Magdalenen” Pastor John DiGiamberardino Senior Pastor, St. Paul’s UMC, Ocean Grov

John 20:1-18

20 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2 So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” 3 So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. 4 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, 7 as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. 8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. 9 (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.) 10 Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.

11 Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 12 and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.

13 They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”

“They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.”14 At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.

15 He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”

Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”

16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.”

She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).

17 Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”

18 Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her.

Where are you along this journey?

For Further Thought

READ – Luke 8:1-3; Mark 15:40-16:11; John 19:25; 20:1-18

Mary Magdalene was the first person to see the risen Christ on Easter. Mark 16:9 Why is this significant?

How do you recognize the living Christ? John 20:14-16

Why didn’t Jesus choose a woman as one of the twelve?

Mary cried many times. When was the last time you cried? Was it for yourself, for someone else, or for something someone had done for you?

“Victory In Jesus” 1) I heard an old, old story, how a Savior came from glory, How He gave His life on Calvary to save a wretch like me I heard about His groaning of His precious blood's atoning, Then I repented of my sins and won the victory

Chorus O victory in Jesus, my Savior, forever He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood He loved me ere I knew Him and all my love is due Him, He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood

2) I heard about His healing of His cleansing pow'r revealing How He made the lame to walk again and caused the blind to see And then I cried, "Dear Jesus, come and heal my broken spirit" And somehow Jesus came and brought to me the victory

Chorus

3) I heard about a mansion He has built for me in glory And I heard about the streets of gold beyond the crystal sea About the angels singing and the old redemption story, And some sweet day I'll sing up there the song of victory

The Power of a Whisper: Hearing God, Having Guts to Respond

Wednesday evenings at 7 PM Beginning in October

Imagine what your life might become if you were willing to say, "God, I'm listening." If you were hearing God's voice and obeying God's promptings. This powerful book from pastor Bill Hybels provides inspiration and vision for what can happen when you intentionally listen for the Holy Spirit's promptings and respond decisively to what you hear. Leaning into personal experiences from over three decades of active ministry, Hybels offers practical wisdom on how to better listen for God's whispers of direction, challenge, and counsel – and how to summon the courage to follow God's voice.
