Cradle of Coaches: Ted Patterson Page 1 Walter Havighurst Special Collections Miami University Libraries Cradle of Coaches Archive Ted Patterson Collection Date Range: 1956 - 1978 OVERVIEW OF THE COLLECTION Title: Cradle of Coaches - Ted Patterson Collection Creator: Ted Patterson Dates: 1956 – 1978 Media: Magnetic media, manuscripts, publications Quantity: 0.5 cubic feet Location: Closed stacks COLLECTION SUMMARY The Ted Patterson Collection forms a portion of the Cradle of Coaches Archive and includes recorded interviews; program scripts; news clippings; and manuscripts associated with Miami University Athletics or members of the Cradle of Coaches. Manuscripts and memorabilia pertaining to Jay Coleville comprise a large percentage of this collection. All items are original, except for some digitized materials which have been transferred from their original media and which remain a part of this collection. Items in this collection are organized chronologically by section. Section VI contains original folders, whose content may not necessarily correspond to the labeling. These inconsistencies existed in the materials upon delivery from the donor and have been retained for the integrity of the collection. PROVENANCE OF THE COLLECTION The collection was donated to the Walter Havighurst Special Collections by Ted Patterson, Miami University alumnus (‘68), radio host, and national sportscaster. Cradle of Coaches: Ted Patterson Page 2 BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION Ted Patterson is a native Ohioan and a graduate of the University of Dayton (’66), with an advanced degree from Miami University (’68). He began his broadcasting career while attending college in Dayton at a local radio station, WVUD-FM. A later association was with WPOC-FM in Baltimore. Over his long career, Patterson has handled the roles of color commentator, producer, writer, coordinator, and host of numerous radio programs including Curt Gowdy’s Inside Sports at NBC. -

(EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team will hit the road for another cross-divisional Mid-American Conference matchup this weekend Saturday, Feb. 1. The Green and White will travel to Oxford, Ohio to square off with Miami University at Millett Hall. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. on the RedHawks' home floor. CRISIS AVERTED: The Eagles were slowly slipping down the MAC West standings after suffering a pair of losses last week. However, the Green and White reversed the trend Wednesday, Jan. 29, when it took down Bowling Green State University for the second time this season, 69-57. -

Miami University Policy Library Official administrative policies and procedures for Miami University Use of University Buildings and Facilities (Student Handbook 5.5.A/Graduate Handbook 2.14) Any recognized student organization that is registered through the Office of Student Activities and Leadership has the right to request the use of University facilities on a spaceavailable basis. Facilities may be used for holding meetings or conducting activities consistent with the objectives of that organization. Any event sponsored by a student organization and opened to the public must be registered with the Office of Student Activities and Leadership. Abstract “Where did the band come from?”: Student protest at Miami University in April 1970. By Justin Bruce Keiser This thesis tells of the protest events at Miami University in the late 1960s and the spring of 1970. Students protested the Vietnam War as well as local issues concerning African Americans at the university. In April of 1970, two events ratcheted up tensions betweens Miami students, administrators and local law enforcement. The first was a sit- in at the ROTC building, Rowan Hall, following a peace rally on the lawn of Roudebush Hall. Local law enforcement forcibly removed the students from the building, inciting a riot scene in the streets of Oxford. The second was the great Miami flush-in when Oxford’s water supply was purposely drained in support of some student demands. The events of those days in April and the surrounding months and years brought the spirit of the 1960s in America to the quaint campus of Miami University. “Where did the band come from?”: Student protest at Miami University in April 1970.
