Arthur Godfrey Broken Wings “Take one listen to his gritty songs about life and surviving and you’ll recognize the soul of a poet.” Arthur Godfrey —Performing Songwriter Magazine Broken WIngs I am the son of a Boston Firefighter and grew up in the city during the 1960s and 1970s. My own ‘road less traveled’ has led me to a place where I could write about my own frailty and prejudice. The songs on Broken WIngs were born there and address my walk through some of life’s most difficult trials: Race, Religion, War, Family, the Homeless, the Impaired, Death and Self. — Arthur Godfrey “Arthur is the real deal and his new record proves it. Heartfelt, well-crafted songs are what I like and there are plenty on Broken WIngs. Give this man’s new CD a chance or I will personally come and ‘kick your ass’ and don’t think I won’t.” — Paul Thorn, Singer/Songwriter “There is something holy about putting your TITLE: BROKEN WINGS heart and truth on the line in a song. Arthur ARTIST: ARTHUR GODFREY Godfrey does it beautifully, and he is not kidding. LABEL: GALLANT-GODFREY Broken WIngs is a wonderful record.” UPC#: 7 96873 06733 1 — Mary Gauthier, Singer/Songwriter TRACK LISTING: “Beautifully tattered, wasted male folk threading 1. • STEVE YOUNG LL July 2021
STEVE YOUNG - LYRICS Steven Timothy Young, 12th July 1942 - 17th March 2016 Compiled by Robin Dunn assisted by Chrissie van Varik. Please note that this list should be regarded as a ‘work in progress’. We don’t claim definitive knowledge about Steve Young’s recorded and composing output and welcome corrections and/or new information. Many folks will have greater knowledge than we about the details on many of these tracks - musicians, dates of recordings, background etc. As anyone with any experience of these things knows, something new and unexpected is always turning up! If anyone epitomises the title of our website it has to be Steve Young. He covered the full gamut of folk, country, blues, and rock ‘n’ roll. Not so well known with the general music-buying public he was nevertheless a huge influence on contemporary and upcoming folk and country musicians many of whom went on to become famous in their own right. Perceived as somewhat of an independent country and folk outsider he was a pioneer of the country rock, Americana, and Alt. Country sounds and often seen as the original so called ‘outlaw’ a label later adopted and inculcated by Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson among others. However, Steve Young’s repertoire was much wider and varied. Steve Young was born on 12th July 1942 in Newnan, Georgia. He grew up in Gadsden, Alabama, and in Texas, as the family regularly moved around in search of work. By the time he completed high school he was playing and writing songs that incorporated influences of folk, blues, country and gospel that he absorbed whilst travelling throughout the South.

  • 1 a Conversation with Danny O'keefe by Frank Goodman
A Conversation with Danny O'Keefe by Frank Goodman (Puremusic.com, 8/2009) A few years back, we had a good little recording studio on Music Row in Nashville, Puremusic Studios. A lot of interesting things went down in there, with Dan Spomer at the board and managing things. Our buddy Mick Conley would often drop in and loan us gear to check out or to engineer or mix something. One day Spomer tells me that Mick is bringing in Danny O'Keefe to cut a record. My jaw about hit the ground. When you think of that whole huge '70s songwriter thing, all those great songs, it's hard to think of a better one than "Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues," if you ask me. When you're talking about an incredibly listenable, incredibly rememberable song, it has all the earmarks. If you like, you can have a listen right now. We were living in the country then, and recording our demos out there at Thomm Jutz's place, so I didn't get to be around the O'Keefe sessions, but Danny and I did meet and we sat down one day for a long and enjoyable conversation. He and Mick were doing incredible tracks, and the songs were outstanding. Danny's songs have been recorded by a list of greats from Sheena Easton to Nickel Creek, and from Jackson Browne ("The Road") to The Blind Boys of Alabama. Alan Jackson recorded "Sleep (Anywhere On Earth You Are), which Danny wrote with the recently late and forever great Tim Krekel, that loss still aches.

JANUARY/FeBRUARY 2014 www.maverick-country.com MAVERICK FROM THE EDITOR... MEET THE TEAM Editor t is with a great deal of sadness, that I acknowlege that this will be my last issue as Alan Cackett editor of Maverick. I have always believed that when you no longer enjoy doing 24 Bray Gardens, Loose, Maidstone, Kent, ME15 9TR, UK something, then it’s time to stop and look to do something di erent. I have had a 01622 744481 Igood run as editor, and now is the time to hand over to someone younger. Someone who [email protected] can hopefully take the magazine forward, embracing country music’s future whilst not Managing Editor overlooking its huge legacy of the past. I know that the new editor Laura Bethell who Michelle Teeman 01622 823920 worked with me for 5 years, 2 as my deputy editor, will do just that. [email protected] It was just over 47 years ago that I edited and published Britain’s rst regular monthly country music magazine. Looking back that was quite an audacious and bold undertaking Designer Laura Bethell for a teenager from a council house estate who le school at 15. Some of the original 01622 823922 readers of Country Music Monthly are still around and have continued to follow my writing [email protected] and views on the music as readers of Maverick. ere was a time when I not only knew Editorial Assistant many of the Maverick readers’ names but had a personal contact with them, but recently Chris Beck I’ve lost touch and I have to say that I miss the chats that we used to have when they phoned Project Manager up to renew their subscriptions.

  • August 2015 Newsletter
August 2015 Newsletter ------------------- Yesterday & Today Records PO Box 54 Miranda NSW 2228 Australia Phone: (02) 95311710 [email protected] www.yesterdayandtoday.com.au ----------------------------------------------- Postage It takes a lot to understand Australia Post. Essentially there are 2 main things. If an item is under 20mm thick it goes as a large letter at a much cheaper rate to something over 20mm thick which is then classified as a parcel. This applies to both Australian and overseas Australia 1 cd $2 2cds $3 3/4/5 cds $8. The latter is up to 500grams and then individual areas are charged separately. If not in NSW it is usually cheaper to send anything over 500 grams in a prepaid satchel. It is $14 for a 3 cds satchel and you can get around 25 cds in one. That is in cases. Without cases you can get maybe 60-70 in a 3kg satchel. Overseas 1 cd or 2 cds is going to be $8 (cheaper for N.Z) and that is with cases. BUT 6 or so can go for $8 if you send without cases. Maximum weight is 250grams. Over 250 grams or thicker than 20mm it goes as a parcel BUT the good thing is the weight is 500 grams maximum. Box sets will be too probably too heavy. ---------------------------------------------------------- Extras/ lucky dip How about 50 cds for $50. They will be sent without cases in a 3kg satchel $14 or if in Sydney postal region $10. Good titles all as new and no dud labels. Can also add cds in at $1 each to make up to post maximum weight.
