RE: Student Teaching Permit Application

Congratulations! You are one step closer to West certification. We hope that you have enjoyed your academic experience at Marshall University thus far and are excited to begin student teaching. Due to new policy from the Department of Education (WVDE), all student teaching/practicum candidates must submit a Student Teaching Permit Application prior to commencing a student teaching experience in a WV public school. This permit must be processed and approved before candidates begin the experience.

I have attached the required forms for obtaining your Student Teaching Permit. You must follow the procedure below to insure that you receive your permit in time to begin your student teaching experience:

1. Print all required forms: form 24 and form 7 2. Complete form 24: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 on the first page. (Second page to be completed by the university certification officer) 3. Form 7 must be completed and notarized (you may bring form 7 to the Clinical Experiences office to be notarized). You do not need to get a superintendents signature, this will be done through my office. 4. As part of this application, you must also have a background check completed. You must have your fingerprinting done at a Morpho Trust agency. I have attached a copy of the Morpho Trust locations in this area. Please follow the instructions provided for finger printing/background checks. There will be a fee (approximately $45) at Morpho Trust. They will give you a receipt with a transaction number on it, which must be submitted with your application. WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR FINGER PRINTING DONE, INDICATE WV DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AS THE RECIPIENT FOR THE BACKGROUND CHECK, NOT THE COUNTY WHERE YOU WILL BE DOING YOUR STUDENT TEACHING. 5. Once you have completed your forms and have had your finger printing completed, you must submit the application to me for processing. You must also include the $25 fee with the application. This must be paid by money order or cashier’s check (no personal checks or cash accepted).

This application must be submitted to WVDE at least 8 weeks prior to the first day of reporting to the schools for your placement. In order to meet this deadline, you must complete the application/finger printing and submit your application to me as soon as possible.
